Yeah, episode 26 is the season finale, and then it's on to season 3. Unfortunately, ep 26 is a lot less complete than I was hoping it would be It needs to have quite a bit more action in it than it currently has due to the large number of navis involved. Heh, heh, let's just see how epic the battle can be. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Don't worry. Given that the next is the last of this arc, take your time on crafting it. The last thing you need is for an ending to be built up to, and then let the whole arc down by it being weak. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I'm definitely anticipating the next and final chapter of Season Two. This has been a great story so far, always growing in a huge assortment of areas including plots, characters, and details. It's so well thought-out, and the world built around these characters is so deep and connected. You both have done an amazing job on this, and I'm looking forward to the end of Season Two and the exciting start of Season Three. Amazing job with all of this. Keep it up! ^-^ _________________

Episode 26: Release (Part 1)
~Outside NetCity ~ 21 November 200X~
Light and Dark sped across the desert sands of the Dead Zone in Lyne’s and Bass’ bodies. The group of navis that were following them were silent the whole trip. They all knew the risks involved with what they were about to face. One of the worst programs ever created was bent on following its master’s wishes.
Through their hosts, the two spirits held each other’s hands, knowing this would be their last battle. Once they finally came to a stop, Light gave Dark’s hand a final squeeze before she let go to wipe away a tear. Dark hugged her, getting a mental protest from his host. “I know, but we have to do this,” he said as he let go and activated Bass’ NetDemon style change.
Light followed in suit and nodded once the change was done. “I’m ready, and so is she.”
How can she agree to this? Bass growled inside his head. This is stupid. I want to fight this thing!
If I let you fight, you would most assuredly die, Dark argued back.
This is my body, Bass mentally shouted as he pushed back, trying to regain control.
Dark pressed a hand to the side of his head in discomfort. “He’s fighting.”
“Go figure. Demons are usually stubborn,” Light responded. Her attention was caught by a figure in the distance racing towards them. She glanced over at Dark, who was still obviously fighting with the ornery owner of the body he was using. She took a calming breath and lightly tapped him on the chest. “Hey. It’s coming. You’d better hurry.”
“This can’t be helped,” he replied through gritted teeth. He made a big mental push against Bass to take full control for a moment. “What element is it?”
Light looked back in the direction Havock was approaching and activated Lyne’s Element Wheel. “Um… It’s water now.”
Dark nodded and them suddenly put his hands to the sides of his head again. “Damn, he won’t let up… Okay, this is how it’s going down. Sable,” Dark pointed at the shadow navi. “You have an electric elemental style change. Use it.”
“Uh, were you talking to me?” Sable asked with a frown.
“Yeah, he was,” NeoKnight said. “You do understand Demonscript, don’t you?”
“Oh, right. Demonscript. Okay, could you repeat that?”
“*sigh* I was saying that you should use your electric element style. Next, Light will-”
“Whoa! Hang on. How’d you know about Techno Style?” Sable interrupted in shock.
“I just do! Light, use a wood element attack after it chan-”
“She can use wood attacks? But she’s a light type!”
Dark grabbed Sable by the arm and scowled at him at barely an inch apart. “Stop interrupting me! Rrrggh, damn it… Bass… stop…”
“Okay, I get it,” NK offered. “I hit it with a fire sword fusion after it changes to wood element, and Kaori will use a water attack, then we do the cycle again.”
“No problem,” Kaori said. “Leina will have those attacks ready.”
“Right,” Dark agreed, then twitched and staggered. “Guahh, stop fighting!”
I hate you! Let me fight! Bass shouted back.
“Shut up!” Dark closed his eyes and stood motionless for a moment, then waved off the group. “Go. I need to concentrate.”
“You sure you’ll be alright?” Light asked as she watched Dark struggle with his host.
“Yes. Go please. This will only take a moment,” Dark replied in a reassuring tone.
No it won’t!
“Yes it will. Go please!” he pleaded as he shoved Light away from him. The other three took off wordlessly, Sable activating the change to Techno style, which looked a lot like his normal form except for neon green markings and a green grid pattern on his torso and upper arms, before he left.
“Okay, but don’t do anything stupid,” Light warned.
“What gives you that idea?” he asked in a curious tone.
“Call it a hunch. Just don’t hurt him. Remember, he’s now the dark element.” Light then turned and beat her wings to lift off the ground and fly towards Havock.
What?! Bass exclaimed. What was that? You did not just do that to me. You’re supposed to be the element, he complained.
You’ve been the element for a while now, not me. Your entire body is the dark element, and it will always be like that until you’re deleted. And soon, you will have your full power. “But first, let me fight! This is my battle!”

Light remained aloft, watching Havock’s approach. It doesn’t look as menacing as before, does it Lyne?
No, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not dangerous, Lyne responded to the spirit. Regardless of how it looks, it’s still the same monster that killed you and Dark, right?
That’s right… Hmm? It stopped.
Havock, down below, was looking up at Light. He had his arms outstretched as if to embrace her. “Ah, sweet lady of light, come down to greet me!” he called up to her.
Havock’s speaking so clearly now! Lyne thought in surprise, then noticed Light’s response. Wait! Don’t try to fight it on your own!
That damn thing’s taunting me! Light thought angrily. She halted the dive she was starting and fired at the target below, but at her current distance, Havock simply walked out of the way, dodging the shot with no effort at all.
Light, please calm down. You’ll just waste energy that way.
I know Lyne, but this is so frustrating. Hmm? Ah, there’s our backup. My, there certainly are a lot of them, aren’t there?
Yeah. My navi brother, Protoman, Searchman, and all of Net Agency Team 001.
But it looks like someone’s waiting for them. Lyne turned her attention from the group of navis pursuing Havock to a pair of navis that came out to block the way. Who are they?
That’s Khan and Toxyn! When did they get here?
Khan and Toxyn? What are you so worried about Lyne?
They’re more powerful than they look Light. They’re jump linked with their operator’s minds. They also work directly for Alpha. Ooh, we need to help them.
We can’t offer navi assistance right now. Our forces are thin enough with our backup pinned down, but… Light replied as she pulled out a few feathers that Lyne had kept from her purification bath. She then infused them with wood element stasis power. I think we can stop them from here, she thought to Lyne as she activated her Holy Buster while placing a feather onto the arrow that appeared. Watch and learn, host master, she thought as she drew the arrow. “Paralysis Arrow!” Light called out as she released two single shots, one right after the other, aimed at the shoulders of the two Zodiac navis.

“OK, there’s Havock Burnerman,” Mega called out. “Why’d he stop?”
“Who know’s?” Protoman said. “Let’s not complain about it though.”
“You know, I wouldn’t have believed you if I didn’t see it for myself,” Flashman spoke. “Burnerman in a new body. Now, remind me again why we’re chasing this thing down if it almost took down Meg and Bass?”
Pyra then slapped him upside the head. “‘Cause this thing is a threat to NetCity, and has deleted several innocent navis,” she growled. “It is your duty as a Net Agent to assist in any way possible.”
“But one thing puzzles me. Why did they come back if they know how powerful it is?” Scorpion asked.
Mega, Protoman, and Searchman all looked at each other for a moment before replying to the water navi’s question. “For Bass,” Mega started.
“Revenge,” the trio spoke in unison.
“But for Lyne… I don’t know why,” Mega spoke.
“Probably because she wants to stand by Bass’s side, to prot-Oomph!” Sonata pointed out before he crashed into another navi’s chest, knocking him to the ground and making everyone stop.
“You all shall not pass!” a voice boomed as a large sword slashed at the whole group, making them back off.
Megaman brought up his buster, steadied it with his left arm, and demanded, “Khan let us through.” Then a group of whips wrapped around his arms and yanked his aim off.
“What fun would that be?” Toxyn questioned with a smirk on her face. “Don’t worry. The little angel is in good hands with Havock.” Sonata had gotten up and pulled out his weapons on Toxyn, but wasn’t able to fire as Toxyn jerked her arm back, bringing Megaman over to her as a momentary shield. “Not happening.”
“Let him go!” Pyra demanded as both she and Protoman jumped forward to attack her, but they were stopped by another powerful sword swing by Khan. Searchman brought up his rifle to fire at Khan, but he was knocked over when Toxyn flung her “shield” at him.
“You should run now children,” Toxyn said as she switched her weapon from the lashes to her Vulcan cannon and started firing at them. Khan activated his cannon attack as well and the two of them made a fierce enough attack to force the navi group to take cover.
“Damn,” Protoman cursed. “Why’d they have to show up?”
Sonata, next to him, shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe they don’t want us to assist Meg and Bass,” he replied. They heard a shout and looked up to see that Khan had managed to blast apart Sandman and Flashman’s cover and was closing in on them with his Royal Blade. “Sonata! Shoot him!” Unfortunately, they were both forced back down when Toxyn turned her attack back over to them. Then they heard a two cries of pain and, surprisingly, all the attacks suddenly stopped.
“Whew!” Flash breathed out in relief before he got up off the ground and backed away from his paralyzed attacker.
“What happened?” Sonata wondered as he got up. When everyone got up to look, they saw that their attackers had glowing shafts of light stuck in their shoulders.
Searchman whistled in appreciation as he took a look at the shots. “She’s become a really good shot,” he spoke as he estimated the trajectory of the shots. “These came from at least a navi mile out.”
“Whoot! Go MEG!” Kid cheered, along with a few others.
“Well then, let’s get going,” Mega said.
“Hey, where do I set up this thing Dr. Hikari wants me to set up?” Kid asked as he followed after the group.
“At the edge of NetCity,” Pyra spoke as they ran along. “Set the array on top of one of the buildings. We’re going to need the ability to log out if this goes sour.”
“Right. Understood Commander,” Kid replied as he picked a building on the outer edge of the city and ran towards it.
“Sand, you’re his cover,” Pyra ordered as she pointed after Kid.
“Yes Ma’am,” Sand spoke as he followed after the hacker navi. The rest of the group raced past them and headed out of NetCity to enter into the Undernet.

Havock walked steadily to where Light had finally landed with the other navis, grinning nastily. He came to a stop a few yards off as the four navis spread out into an arc around him. “Hee, heee, my Light, you’re even prettier than before. I’m sure going to like deleting you and your host,” Havock Burnerman said as he cracked his knuckles. He’d walked slowly enough that the three Netsavior navis and the four navis from NAT 001 were able to catch up and complete the circle. “Oh, hello. Did you really run all this way? They must be truly desperate to help you little Light.”
“Light? Lyne what’s he talking about?” Mega asked as he felt the tension build up between his sister and the larger program.
“Foolish tool of Alpha. You’re the one who’s going down Havock,” Light spoke as she pointed at Havock, then powered up an orb of glowing yellow energy. Electric elementals, attack on my command, she thought mentally to Sable and Flashman.
“No more banter, huh?” Havock asked. “Fine. Hit me if you can.” And without further warning, he jetted out a cloud from the many pipes on his body.
“Watch out!” Protoman shouted, jumping back from the rapidly expanding cloud.
“Ow, it’s hot!” Sable cried out as he retreated, having gotten closer in preparation to attack with the Techno style’s weapon: a pair of glowing green daggers that crackled with electricity.
“Everyone, be ready for when he comes out!” Light called out. The group was now unable to see where their target was. “Damn you monster. Hiding’s not going to save you.”
That’s not Lyne, Mega thought as he observed the cold look in his sister’s eyes. What’s going on?
All will be explained in due time young warrior of the network. Now is the time to fight this monstrosity. Pick an element and make ready.
“Uh, okay,” Mega responded, taken off guard by how Light’s thoughts ‘sounded’ to him. He saw Searchman take off to find a good position to provide any covering fire needed, then shook off his confusion and tensed for battle. “Lan, send me a Boomerang,” he spoke quietly to his NetOp.
“A wood attack after his element changes to electric, right? You got it Megaman,” Lan agreed and sent the battlechip.
The whole group waited for the expected attack, most of them figuring it would go straight at Light, who was Havock’s obvious target. They all shifted around slightly as the seconds dragged on, wondering what was taking so long.
“Come on Havock!” Light shouted. “After all these thousands of years, you want me to wait even more. Come and get me!”
Everyone was looking over at her shouting when it came. Havock rushed out of the cloud, not at her, but instead at Scorpion. “So impatient!” he said as he thrust his arm into the water navi’s waist and knocked her into the ground.
“Get him now!” Light called and fired off her electrical attack. Havock had anticipated her however. Rather than simply punching her, he’d grasped her by the waist and flung her up off the ground, straight into Light’s attack. “Ah, you bastard!”
There was more than one navi ready to attack however, and Sable was right nearby. Without hesitation, he leaped at Havock’s back and slashed both of his daggers in an X pattern. Havock howled, though it sounded more like fury than pain in his voice, and his howl was quickly followed by Sable’s own. Havock had sections of armor that had and appearance of water under glass, much like Megaman did in Aqua Soul. This water, however, was boiling hot and pressurized. Sable’s attack broke open one of those sections and he was scalded by the spray.
“Flashman, help him out!” Pyra called. “Sonata, hit him with your wood blaster!”
“Right,” Sonata agreed and moved into position to attack. Flashman pulled Sable out of the way but barely managed to avoid Havock’s fist himself as the beast swung out.
“So, you’re an electric type?” Flashman asked Sable, trying to hide his nervousness. “Electricity’s not supposed to be green you know.”
Sable looked up at him, forcing his eyes open though the pain really made him want to keep them squeezed shut. “… Your head looks like a mushroom. How’s that any better?” Flashman didn’t have a response ready for that, so he just glared back at his injured baggage.
“I’m going to end you all!” Havock shrieked at the navis about him. Electricity was arcing wildly off of his body, and the group was having trouble avoiding being hit. “Heat Lightning!” Havock shouted, and the electricity he was creating converged on him and then spiraled up into the air.
“Get away fast!” Light shouted, and she and Kaori both carried the recovering Scorpion out of the way. Superheated plasma blasted down around Havock, bathing the whole area in blinding light and sending navis too close flying from the force of the blast.
“Wow. Now that’s one hell of an electric attack,” Flashman said in quiet appreciation as he looked back at Havock. The monstrosity was standing in the middle of a glowing circle that was cooling down into glass.
“Why are you running Light?” Havock questioned with mad fury in his eyes. He rushed at her, screaming, “I thought this was the fight you wanted!!”
“Kaori, take her!” Light said and pushed both her and Scorpion off in a different direction. She needn’t have worried however, as Havock was suddenly struck and stumbled from the strike of Megaman’s Boomerang attack.
“You stay away from my sister!” Megaman shouted at Havock. Sonata, a little closer to the blasted area, was sitting up now and firing at the recovering enemy.
“No Sonata. Ready to hit it with fire,” Pyra ordered, preparing to leap in with her Flame Sword.
“Heh, heh, heh, heh, hah, haaah. Thank you ever so much Megaman. It’s so fun to play with new weapons!” Havock taunted in maddened glee. Havock’s body showed a change in texture now, rough like heavy bark. Wisps of smoke were coming off from him all over the place. He could see Pyra approaching him with her attack ready. “Come get some girly!” Havock raised his arms up like he was lifting something and twisted vines grew up from the ground, hindering the charging fire navi. “Oh, I can see now how much fun Plantman must have had wrapping his victims up in vines. But could he make them ignite? No, I don’t think so,” he said and snapped his fingers, triggering the vines holding Pyra back to light up. She was a fire navi, but she wasn’t immune to the damage that fire could do.
“Oh, no! Megaman, help me get her out of that!” Sonata exclaimed, rushing forward to help his commander and foregoing an attack on Havock.
“Oh, you want some too now?” Havock asked, baring his teeth at Sonata and holding out his hand, controlling the vines so that they tried to grab him. “Come and-”
“No you don’t!” NeoKnight shouted out from Havock’s side. “Sword Fusion. Flame Strike!” NK swung his sword down and sent a straight wave of fire at Havock so that it washed over the large program’s body, engulfing it in flame. “Yeah! Kaori, get ready to hit him now.”

Alpha and Maniac had a good vantage point to watch the battle taking place outside of the city. Maniac looked through a pair of binoculars from the rooftop of a building, clenching his jaw in irritation. “Havock,” he said quietly with a cold anger in his voice. In the dying flames, the besieged program turned his head to look at where Maniac was. “You are supposed to be destroying Lyne and Bass. If you can’t take care of a few minor navis in the way, then return.” Havock, down below, roared in anger and went after the navi currently trying to attack him: Kaori.
“Hmm, two separate groups, both prepared to use an element ring to take advantage of Havock’s element shifting,” Alpha observed calmly. “This seems a little too, mmmn, sophisticated for two teenagers to pull off. Light and Dark must’ve finally awakened, which means we might have to make Havock stronger.”
“They hit him again,” Maniac growled. “Where are Khan and Toxyn at? Havock, this is no good. Come back.”
“*Sigh* Cruel that won’t work. Havock has found its target and won’t stop until it has done its job or been deleted or retrieved. You asked an excellent question though. Your, ahh, associates should have kept those NetSaviors busy. So let’s go find Khan and Toxyn, then get Havock out of here.”
“Yes Master Alpha. Let’s get my creation,” Maniac agreed as he followed after his virus master.

Let me fight. My Body! Bass mentally shouted, fighting the spirit that inhabited his body.
No kid. You’ll die if I let you. You don’t fully understand how to use this form against Havock. Let me instruct you, Dark responded to his disgruntled host.
NO! My body. MY FIGHT, he growled, If you want to instruct me, do it from inside my head! he ordered as he pushed really hard this time, to the point where he could gain some temporary control over his body. “Charge!” he called out as he tried to force his body into battle, only to be caught short and forced back a by Dark.
That was too close for comfort. I’m going to have to use it, Dark thought to himself as he called up a chip from Bass’ chip storage. I know this will be against Dr. Cossack’s wishes but he’s giving me no choice. The Demon Wings chip finally formed in the palm of his host’s hand. Bass’ curiosity was caught, and he wondered what Dark was about to do.
“You’re a formidable opponent, but this stops now,” Dark spoke aloud. “I’m going to give you an upgrade you’ll never forget. Release DNA!” he commanded the chip in his hand making it’s outer appearance melt away and form a double helix floating in the middle of his hand. In one swift motion he gripped the twisting shape and commanded, “Download!”
Overwhelming pain lanced through Bass’ body and both he and Dark gave a short scream. Bass lost his concentration as he dwelt on fighting against the pain. Dark grinned to himself, knowing better than to fight the pain since that would just make things worse. “Now that you’re busy, I can join the fight,” Dark spoke as he got prepared to fly.
You suck… Thiss hurts! What did you do to me? Bass asked in frustration as Dark took off.
“Watch and learn,” Dark replied as he faltered a little bit in the take off, but smoothed out into a slow glide. He was still feeling the pain too, but on a lesser scale than Bass. “Why did Light choose to fight all the way over there? It’s too close to NetCity,” he complained as he traveled along the darkened sky of the Undernet to join in the battle that was taking place.

“How, hrrmm, embarrassing,” Alpha commented upon finding Toxyn and Khan. “Ah yes, these are spirit arrows. I thought so. Light and Dark were behind this, not those two teens.”
“So, they were paralyzed. Heh, heh, they’re trying to fight it, but all they can do is twitch,” Maniac commented with a tight-lipped smile on his face. “Amusing, but we don’t have the time to enjoy this.” He reached down and yanked the arrows from the other two Zodiac navis’ shoulders. He bared his teeth slightly in his smile when they both gasped in pain.
“Damn that hurt. That little trollop is going to pay for that,” Khan snarled as he got to his feet and started to storm off after Lyne. Alpha moved in front of him, making come to an abrupt halt.
“Khan, wait a moment. That’s a spirit we’re dealing with, not the girl. Spirits are much stronger with allies. What we need to do is, hmm, thin their forces out before we strike,” Alpha spoke.
“So, what you want us to do is shake things up a bit?” Khan asked, looking at his partners before he returned his gaze to Alpha.
“Precisely,” he replied as his minions all nodded, catching his meaning, and raced off to join up with Havock.

Dark had to touch down for a moment to catch his breath. He hadn’t flown a body for a long period of time in centuries and was remembering why he hated flying forms. “How you doing in there?” he asked Bass as he took his break.
When I’m in control again… I’m going to kick your ass, Bass growled in response.
“Ha, ha, that’s funny. You know, I don’t have an ass for you to kick. Well, except maybe yours since I’m borrowing it.” Dark chuckled again as an angry snarl echoed in his mind. He got to moving again, though he didn’t fly this time. He ran along the desert sands instead to conserve energy. “Tell me when your pain subsides. I can’t feel it anymore,” he said as he started to climb up a sand dune. He used his wings as he went, making the climb easier but still not expending as much energy as flying took. He noticed a tremor in the ground and saw what was causing it once he reached the top of the dune. This better hurry up. It’s chaos down there.
I see Zodiac’s gotten into this too. Hey, are you gonna’ hurry up and get us over there or what?
“Yes. Eh?” He noted a sudden movement by the largest figure on the field. Havock had charged at a smaller, winged figure and now was bearing down on Light in an uneven grapple. “Nooo Light!”
Lyne, Bass called out as he watched the scene unfold through his eyes. Now feeling renewed desperation, Dark kicked off of the ground and flew up, quickening his pace to get to the battle.

Havock had the group of navis scattered and was chasing after them one after the other. They hadn’t hit him with the next attack on the element ring, so he was jetting around quickly and leaving trails of steam everywhere. Searchman, from his vantage point, was able to follow the program’s movement and he scored many direct hits, but, “Is this even damaging him at all? He hasn’t slowed down. I don’t know if he’s even noticed being attacked.”
“Just keep trying Searchman. I’m sure your attacks are causing damage,” Raika encouraged his navi.
“Yes sir.” Searchman lined up another shot and fired, but Havock made an unexpected movement and the shot missed. “Damn. That was… what’s that?” Searchman felt a vibration through the floor of the building he was in, a halfway broken one but with sturdy floors up to its third level where Searchman was. He scanned the area he could see, but what hit the building was on a different side from his. The floor lurched under him, then cracked and collapsed. Searchman made a quick scramble and grabbed onto the open part of the wall he’d been firing through, but he knew he had to get out before that wall collapsed as well.
“Searchman, are you alright?”
“Yes, but I’ve got to move.” He could feel the wall swaying and heard it crack, so he quickly got up through the opening and leapt out. The impact with the ground was unpleasant, but he rolled with it and avoided serious damage. He saw a large figure in black and brown charging away from the building. “So, that’s what hit it. Must be Khan from the size. We should have dealt with them while they were paralyzed.” He brought up his weapon and aimed it at the Zodiac navi and could see through the scope that this form’s head was topped with a pair of long, obsidian black horns. “Must be Taurus. Well, I can take care of this now. Wha!?” The ground under Searchman suddenly moved and threw him off. He twisted in the air and saw Toxyn behind him in her Virgo form.
“Soldier boy, it’s not nice to attack someone from behind,” she purred.
“Speak for yourself witch!” he shouted back and fired a quick shot which was blocked by a suddenly risen wall. He didn’t have the time to fire again as Toxyn began bringing out pieces of earth and hurling them at Searchman with her Virgo power. Wonderful. Now I’ve got to find cover all over again!
_______________
“Come back and die for me!” Khan raged at his current target. He charged and struck at her, but Kaori was too quick to be hit by him.
“You’re too slow big guy,” she taunted and dashed in to try and slash at hit with her bladed weapons, but had to jump back out of the way as Khan sent his fist down into the ground where she’d just been. While the attack didn’t hit, pieces of debris did manage to hit her painfully. Ouch. He’s almost as strong as that Havock thing! I’ll just have to keep my distance to attack. She brought out a handful of throwing darts and readied to hurl them at her assailant, but the larger navi picked up a leg and then slammed it into the ground, sending out a shockwave that threw the ninja off her feet.
“I will not be beaten by a simple navi like you!” Khan yelled and charged at her. She threw the darts as she rolled to her feet, but it was a desperate attack that Khan was able to dodge away from without losing much momentum. “Now die!”
“I’ve got you covered,” came the voice of a female navi. “Poison Sting!” This time, the attack struck, hitting Khan in the side and getting a hiss from him. He glanced in the direction of the attack and saw Scorpion there, firing at him a second time. He brought up his arm to block it and Kaori took the opportunity to make another attempted attack. Again, Khan brought down his foot, which currently had the look of a black hoof, and made a quake. And then he brought down the other foot to continue it.
Kaori was more prepared this time and was able to barely keep her feet under her, but couldn’t manage an attack. Scorpion didn’t have as good a sense of balance and was thrown to the ground. This is no good. I’ve got to get to stable ground, Kaori thought and retreated as well as she was able to. With only one navi nearby now, Khan took the opportunity to make a direct attack. He stopped stomping his feet and charged at Scorpion. “No, stop!” Kaori shouted and quickly drew and hurled darts at him. The attack struck, but Khan ignored it and lowered his head, striking his target with his horns. Scorpion shrieked as the built in weapons pierced her and lifted her off of the ground. Kaori rushed at Khan bearing her bladed tonfas in an attempt to rescue Scorpion, but didn’t get far. In one move, Khan stomped on the ground to make a quake and twisted his torso like a whip to hurl Scorpion off his horns, sending her flying at the off balance ninja.
“Ahh, hahahaha! I cannot be defeated!” Khan howled as he charged off looking for another target.
NeoKnight saw that Kaori was in trouble, but was having a hard time dodging Havock’s steam-driven charge. “Get away from me!” he shouted and swung his sword at his pursuer. It struck Havock in the arm, but the hard armor was able to absorb the brunt of the strike. A large hand grabbed NeoKnight by the arm and raised him up into the air.
“Put him down Havock!” Light yelled from behind him and he turned to see her gliding quickly at him, firing bolts of light. Havock grinned and complied, tossing NK away and turning to face Light. She tilted in the air to change course, knowing better than to actually tackle the monster head on, but Havock used his steam jets again to make a dash at her that she couldn’t avoid. “Oh, hell!” she cussed and put both her arms out to protect herself, and Havock grasped the outstretched hands in his own. She brought her feet down under and then in front of herself, kicking Havock in the chest to stop her movement, and then she planted her feet firmly on the ground.
“Time to dance, huh?” Havock growled, leaning his face down to look her in the eyes as he bore his weight on her. “But there’s not music. Too bad, huh?”
“I won’t, rrgh, lose to you,” Light panted, but this was a bad situation. Havock absolutely dwarfed her with at least twice the height and several times the data mass. She could feel her legs giving out already under the pressure.
“Let her go!” Pyra yelled at him, jumping onto his back and chopping at his arm with her flame sword. Havock tried to shake her off for a moment, and then the element switch occurred again, bringing him back to his natural fire element.
“Get off me you wench!” Havock grunted, then turned all of his burner jets back on. By tilting his head back, he was able to scorch Pyra with the pair of burners there. As she reflexively jumped back off of him, Havock kicked off of the ground and took off into the air like a rocket with Light still in his grasp.
“Ah, what a beast,” Pyra spat under her breath, wincing from the pain of the burns she got. She wasn’t as good at hitting distant opponents, so she couldn’t help Light very well.
“Are you alright Pyra?” Flashman asked, coming up to her.
“Yeah, but she needs help. Where’s Sonata at? He might be able to shoot Havock down.”
“He’s dealing with the cow over there.” He pointed over at where Sonata was avoiding the devastating swings of Khan’s fists. “I was just about to go there, but maybe you should try. I’ll try to hit Havock from here.”
“Okay, agreed. Hey, where’s that black navi at?” she asked as she started off to help the team’s gunslinger.
“Eh, he’s hiding. Don’t worry about him,” Flashman replied and then turned back to track Havock’s erratic fight. He followed Havock’s movement, but couldn’t get a clear enough shot with Light still in his hands. “Ah, she got a hand free!” Flashman observed, but that still didn’t get her clear from her opponent. In fact, for a moment things looked even worse as Havock morphed the free hand into an arm burner to attack her. She batted at it and twisted in the air to avoid it. Finally, Flashman heard her shout something that sounded like ‘Celestial Wind’ and he could see that it was some kind of wind attack with streaks of bright light mixed into it. Havock was stunned just long enough for Light to kick at the hand still holding her and free herself so that she could get some distance again. “Alright! Now I got a shot.”
“Hmph, so she managed to get loose. What a pity,” spoke a calm voice nearby. Flashman turned to see Maniac standing just a couple of yards off, casually watching what was happening above. He turned his eyes down to coldly regard Flashman. “You weren’t really planning on attack him, were you?”
“Yeah, but if you want it first, Neon Light!” Flashman cried out and sent an electrical orb at Maniac.
“Area Steal,” Maniac quietly responded and warped away from the attack, still maintaining his distance. He hadn’t yet brought out a weapon on Flashman and continued to just stare at him. “Why did you do that? I thought you were going to attack my creation. Don’t you appreciate all of the hard work I put into making him as a killing machine?”
“So, you’re the one who used Burnerman to power that thing? You made him into a twisted freak, but I can tell by looking at you that you’re twisted too. Spark Palm!” And Flashman put his hand to the ground and sent three lines of electricity arcing at Maniac.
“Area Steal,” he said calmly again and avoided the attack, but this time Flashman didn’t see where the Zodiac navi ended up. “You wound me with your words,” Flashman heard in his ear and turned to see Maniac right there, only a hand’s length away and staring at him with his cold, green eye. The attack was too swift for Flashman to avoid as Maniac unsheathed his sword from his back and made a vertical slice down along Flashman’s back. “I wound you in return!” Maniac then pulled out his pistol and readied to make another attack.
“Back off!” came a shout from the ground as Sable suddenly leapt from Flashman’s shadow and made a slash at Maniac with his double-bladed scythe. Caught off guard, Maniac received a gash on the leg as he jumped back. “Sorry Mushroom. He got behind you so suddenly.”
“It’s fine. And don’t call me mushroom you little inkblot!” Sable grinned and made another attack which Maniac dodged well away from.
“Shadow, huh?” Maniac observed as he avoided Sable’s slashes. A wind passed overhead as Light and Havock passed nearby the fight, though Havock’s flying wasn’t quite as good as a wind element. Flashman was finally able to get an attack aimed at the program and sent him crashing to the ground in a blaze of electricity. Maniac, meanwhile, took aim on sable and fired a single shot which passed through Sable’s shadow body as he charged.
“Surprise!” Sable exclaimed as he finished his charge and made a swipe which Maniac parried.
“Not really. I was actually expecting that,” Maniac responded as he continued backing away, parrying Sable’s attacks. “Havock, dispose of the electric navi.” The program had been about to go after Light again, but jerked to a halt and then turned to charge at Flashman and tackle him. “You can use shadow body defensively. That would be useful to take. Then again, you have to be solid to attack.” On the next parry, he took another shot with his left-handed weapon, and Sable had to twist to the side to avoid it. “As I thought. Well then… Gemini.” Sable’s following attack found empty air as Maniac split down the middle. Sable now had Cruel, the green eyed navi, on his left and Vicious, the red eyed one, on his right. Cruel quickly stabbed the sword in his hand into Sable’s shoulder, then drew out and chopped right through the shadow navi’s arm with a second sword. Vicious brought a second pistol to bear and fired a barrage of shots into the unprepared navi’s right side.
“Ooo, ooo! I’m out to play now!” Vicious exclaimed excitedly as the critically injured shadow navi fell to the ground. “Oh, uh, did we hurt him too bad Cruel?” he asked and nervously chewed on his lip.
“No, I can still use him. Now should I take him apart now, or wait ‘til the battle’s over?”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant!” Vicious argued, hopping from foot to foot in agitation. He stopped and looked at Cruel with his mouth open, then rolled his eyes up and to the side in confusion. “Uh, what did I mean anyway?”
“You didn’t mean anything. Why don’t you go find someone to fight?”
“Sure, like him?” Vicious pointed past Cruel, and he turned to see that NeoKnight was charging at them with his sword ready to strike.
“No, someone else,” Cruel said after a pause. “I’ll handle the sword wielder.”
“Okay, I’ll beat someone up real good!” Vicious said with a grin as he put his pistols away and ran off.
“Use your weapons you fool! Damnit.” Cruel then readied himself to meet NK’s attack.

“Sniper boy, wherever did you go?” Toxyn called out, looking about for her quarry. Her hand was twitching at her side in excitement. “You were the one that shot me that last time. Come on and let me hurt you back.” She saw off to the side when the flash of muzzle fire went off and jerked her arm up reflexively, bringing up a wall to block the shot. “Ah, thank you,” she said as she sent a shockwave back at Searchman.
“Don’t thank me yet,” Searchman replied, running to the side to avoid the straight wave of the attack. “I’ve still got more to give you.” He fired again, but another wall of solid earth blocked the shot. “Come on Toxyn. How are you going to see where I am if you keep blocking your own view?”
“Oh, how right you are. Well, I guess I can oblige. Libra.” A light glow came from her as she took a moment to switch forms. She leapt up to the top of the wall she’d just made and stood there with her arms out to her sides. “There. Now you see me, and I see you.” Her armor was now silver and white with a silver visor and white and violet ribbons, several of them, coming from her shoulders, arms, helmet, and legs. Oddly, the ribbons all moved on their own, in a rhythmic pattern around her.
Searchman was surprised that she actually came into view on purpose. Well, can’t pass up a clear shot, now can I? He took aim and blinked a couple times as his vision went unexpectedly blurry. Toxyn remained where she was while Searchman squinted his eyes and steadied his aim, then finally fired off a round. “… What the? I missed?”
“You missed?” Raika added, equally surprised. “Did she move?”
“I don’t think so sir. I’ll try again.” He steadied his navi rifle with his left hand and tried to steady his shooting stance by kneeling, but he almost fell over while doing it. He had an unusual sensation as if the ground under him was tilting sideways.
“Urgh. Searchman, something’s wrong with your PET screen. What’s with this pattern on it?”
“I... I don’t know,” Searchman replied as he fired another round, getting the same miss as before. “This form she’s in, it’s messing with my balance somehow.”
“I think it’s affecting mine to. I feel sick.”
Toxyn hopped lightly down off of the wall and started walking towards Searchman. “Don’t you appreciate being able to see me now sniper? That’s what you wanted, wasn’t it?” Searchman got up unsteadily to his feet and turned to retreat. He heard Toxyn’s light steps quicken into a run behind him, but he wasn’t able to manage any more than a stagger. When he heard her get within a few yards behind him, he turned to try a pot shot. The Zodiac navi leapt up over his shot, flipped in the air, and brought her heel down hard on the middle of the rifle, cracking it with the force of the impact. “You should have stayed in your PET today,” she taunted as she furiously attacked him, hitting him over and over with her fists, her feet, knees, and elbows. In short order, Searchman found himself on his back with her foot on his chest and his rifle in her grip. “Don’t think you need this now,” she said, and with surprising strength, she tore the rifle right off, leaving only the stump of his damaged forearm behind.
“Uhn… still have a weapon,” Searchman said weakly and brought out a Seach Grenade with his left hand. Toxyn took her foot off his chest and kicked the grenade safely away, smirking in satisfaction. The smirk fell, however, when she realized Searchman wasn’t there to step on again.
“… I didn’t delete him. That was a logout.” She clenched her jaw and frowned in frustration. “But that isn’t possible. My concentration wasn’t weakened at all. I’m jump linked. Navis can’t log out when we’re jump linked. What’s going on here?” Toxyn turned her attention back to the rest of the battle and went off to rejoin it, contemplating what could have happened.

Episode 26: Release (Part 2)
__________________________
A clang rang out as swords clashed together. “This I can enjoy,” Cruel said, locking eyes with NeoKnight. “A short duel, a deleted opponent, and then a helpless victim to tear apart.”
“That’s not going to happen!” NeoKnight countered, blocking a strike from the dual wielding Cruel. “I will defeat you.”
“That’s not the plan NK. Get Sable out of there,” Treno broke in.
NK grunted as he blocked a pair of slashes and countered with an attack of his own which Cruel jumped back from. “I’m not leaving this fight. I’ll beat him, then get Sable away.”
“What’s this? Conversing with your NetOp while fighting?” Cruel questioned. “Tell him to be silent. The only way you’ll protect him is by defeating me. Heh, so you won’t be saving him.”
“You’ve been injured already,” Treno argued. “Just grab Sable and I’ll get you both out. Remember, he has no NetOp to help him.”
“If I leave, he’ll just go after someone else,” NeoKnight replied. “If I take him down, hya! he won’t be able to.”
“Hah, hah, hah, hah. This is so foolish,” Cruel sneered. “You do not have the power to ‘take me down.’ Even divided into two Navis, I have more than enough strength to destroy you on my own. Wind Razor!” Cruel made an X slash with his swords and a pair of waves sliced through the air at NeoKnight. He held his sword up to block, but it’s not easy to block air, even when it’s able to cut.
“NK, get out of there now! You’ll go back, I promise,” Treno yelled. “I have a plan, but you need to get out first. Do it!”
NeoKnight bared his clenched teeth in frustration and blocked another set of sword swipes from Cruel. “Fine,” he said under his breath and ducked under Cruel’s next attack, rushing past him and jumping forward to grab Sable. “Okay, do it Treno!”
“What are yo- What?” Cruel said in surprise as NK disappeared with Sable. “They logged out… How nice.” Cruel didn’t sound at all pleased. He turned to look at the rest of the battle and saw that the number of enemies they faced were indeed fewer now. “But are they destroyed, or did they escape?” he wondered to himself as he went to join the others.

Kaori was, again, facing Khan, and this time had Megaman helping out, but they weren’t able to make much progress since the larger navi, while not able to get his hands on either one effectively, made ground quakes every time his opponents tried to attack. Sonata, though injured, was still able to help Light against Havock. Pyra was having trouble avoiding the wild swings of Vicious, who still had his weapons holstered, and Protoman was having an even worse time with Toxyn. She had to back off a lot due to the defensive swings he made when she got close, but his swings were very erratic due to the vertigo effect Toxyn generated in her Libra form. This was the situation that Cruel faced when he arrived at the main battle.
“First order of business,” he said as he approached the battle with Havock.
“Sonata, look out!” Pyra called out as the sword wielding Zodiac navi reached him. It was too late of a warning however as Cruel grabbed him under the chin and ran his sword through the already injured navi. Unable to take any more, Sonata left the battle.
“This is annoying,” Cruel growled. “That was a logout as well.” He looked over at Toxyn and Khan and decided Toxyn would be more helpful. He walked over to where she was facing off with Protoman, although he didn’t look directly at her, and swatted the unsteady Protoman away. “Go elsewhere Netsavior navi. Toxyn, have you noticed something odd about this battle. Two navis I fought logged out. Three if you count the one that was rescued.”
Toxyn kept her eyes on what was going on as she responded. “Yeah, the sniper I went after logged out too. Do you know how it’s happening?”
“… There was something. A coded signal that counteracted the interference of a Mind Jumper. It wasn’t finished though. Mind Jumping was abandoned before then.”
“I remember that. Careful. Your other half is heading this way with a guest.” Toxyn turned around in a circle and looked at the surrounding area. “It would have to be close. And height would help it to cover a large area like this.”
“Hey look you guys! She cut me!” Vicious called out to them. He actually sounded happy about the injury on his chest and didn’t seem to be slowed down by it at all.
“Nina, send me a distance attack,” Pyra requested, stopping her pursuit of Vicious rather than getting that close to three enemy navis. “Quick please. That female is causing problems with my balance.”
“Vicious you moron. Turn around and shoot her,” Cruel ordered the more energetic navi. Vicious, however, was staring at Toxyn and swaying about with a grin on his face.
“Oooo, dizzy,” he said and started laughing.
“I see it now!” Toxyn exclaimed. “It’s that satellite array on those buildings.”
“Heat Spreader!” Pyra called.
“Damn it, get down!” Cruel shouted and tackled Vicious to the ground. Pyra’s attack went over them and past Toxyn, to hit the ground many yards beyond her. Toxyn whipped her head about, turned, and charged at Pyra. She tried to attack again, but a jumping spin kick to the head put that plan to rest. Pyra went flying off in a daze and Toxyn turned back to see to her ally.
“Cruel? Oh, you fused again,” Toxyn observed as Maniac sat up off the ground and grinned at her.
“Yeah, ain’t it grand?” Maniac said gleefully.
“Wait, why are you in charge now? Oh, whatever. I have a job for you.”
“Okey, dokey,” he said and tried to salute, but missed and lost his balance, falling back to the ground. “Ooh, Toxyn, I don’t feel right, hee, hee.”
Toxyn pulled Maniac to his feet and turned him to face away from her, towards the buildings she’d spotted earlier. “Now listen carefully. Those buildings on the edge of Net City have satellite arrays set up on them. There are three of them. Do you see them?” Maniac looked where he was directed to for a moment, then nodded his head. “Good. They’re sending out bad signals. Go destroy those buildings that they’re on.”
“How many should I break? Can I destroy those over there too?”
“No, not all of them,” she answered, holding onto her patience. “Just the three with the arrays, then come back here to help us. And change to Capricorn form too.”
“Oh yeah! It’s like dominoes! Just watch, and I’ll take them all out in one hit milady.” He switched forms and skipped off to his assignment in mad joy.
“*Sigh* He’s just too much at times,” she breathed out as she looked around to see who needed to be attacked.

~Treno’s Home~
“So, what do you plan on doing anyway?” Leina asked Treno as NeoKnight returned to his PET.
“I plan on using this,” Treno responded, holding up a chip.
“Really?” she asked in shock as she looked at it, while NK grunted to get their attention.
“Well, whatever it is, hurry and get me back there,” NK said while holding up the incapacitated Sable in his arms. “And secure him on the home server please.”
“I wasn’t going to forget about that NK,” Treno responded and typed in a command to pull Sable out of the Pet and onto the server. “Remember our cross fusion practices?” he asked while he worked.
“Yeah.” NK cocked an eyebrow curiously, wondering why his NetOp was bringing that up.
“We’re about to put it to the test,” he said as he placed a few battle chips into his pet, and then brought out something that had a similar appearance to a Synchro Chip, but NK could see what it really was.
NK went wide eyed as he recognized it. “No Treno! Not the Data Sync Chip. It’s really dangerous back there. You could get hurt or killed.”
“And so can those two half navi friends of yours. They’re also human. Besides, you need the power boost,” Treno spoke as he activated a set of four small cylinders on his desk, creating a small Dimensional Area around his computer desk.
“You’re not going to be talked out of this are you?” NK asked as he saw the determination in his NetOp’s eyes. “Oh… Fine! Slot it in already.” He forced his nervousness away, knowing if he wasn’t calm enough he wouldn’t be in good synch with his NetOp so they could fuse.
“Okay, here it goes,” Treno spoke as he gently slid the chip into his PET.
“Cross Fusion!” they called out in unison as NK’s data formed around Treno’s body.
Leina stood on the other side of the DA. She wanted to run through it and grab Treno, hold him, but knew she couldn’t even put her hand on the DA without hurting herself. “Be careful,” she spoke softly, getting a nod from Treno.
“I will. I promise I’ll come back,” Treno spoke. He closed his eyes before he continued. “Data Sync activate.” He grit his teeth as he felt his body change into digitized coding and enter the Net through his computer link, returning to the battle with his navi.

“Urgh!” Megaman exhaled explosively on impact with the ground. “Oow, what happened?”
“Khan swatted you into the air. Are you alright Megaman?” Lan asked his navi.
“I don’t remember being hit. Whu?” Megaman looked up quickly when someone grabbed him by the arm. “Oh, Protoman. What kind of shape are you in?”
“Not the best. Chaud’s used all the recovery chips he had,” Protoman said as he helped Mega to his feet.
“Lan’s out too. Have you seen Bass yet?”
“No. I hope he shows up soon… Wow. I really never thought I’d be saying that. Hey, you should help your sister out.” He pointed up at where she was again involved in an aerial battle. “I think you’re the last one capable of ranged support.”
Megaman didn’t respond to him. He just moved off, firing at the destructive program they’d been sent to stop. Protoman knew he had to get back over to help the few remaining navis take care of Khan and Toxyn. “Wait, where’s that third one?”
“Third what Protoman?” Chaud asked through the PET link.
“That Zodiac navi, Maniac. I mean, I can’t complain. There are few enough of us to deal with the two left here.”
“Worry about what you can deal with Protoman. We don’t have time for anything else.”
“Understood.” He ran over to provide his aid and decided it was best to help Kaori first. Pyra had been knocked to the ground, but was recovering and ready for Khan, who was stalking towards her. Kaori, however, was being assaulted by a vicious flurry of acrobatic attacks from the Libra formed Toxyn. He slid to a stop and tensed to strike when something appeared before him through a Net Portal.
Treno opened his eyes and looked around him once he’d finished reforming in the Net. “Well, that wasn’t bad at all. I was worried it might hurt.”
“Hey, you came here with Lyne, didn’t you?” Protoman asked. “I thought you had blue hair.”
“Uh, things change. You’re Protoman, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, come on.” He grabbed Treno by the arm and hurried him along. “That girl navi’s in trouble.”
“Kaori!” NeoKnight exclaimed.
“Kaori!” Treno echoed and hurried even faster. Protoman glanced at him curiously, knowing that he’d just heard two separate voices. He changed his course slightly to meet Kaori, who’d just been launched by a back-kick from her opponent. He smiled when he saw that Toxyn was holding her hand to her jaw. He managed to catch the ninja, but fell over when he did, forcibly reminded of the vertigo Libra caused.
“You alright Kaori?” he asked the other navi.
“Yeah. Uh, do I know you?”
“No. He said your name when he saw you.” He pointed over at Treno, who had just activated one of his pre-inserted chips.
“Sword Fusion! Ice Strike!” Treno’s voice rang out. He made an arc of a swing with his sword, and splinters of ice formed and exploded from the ground in front of him. Toxyn jumped back from it, blocking her face with her arms.
“Hey he got her,” Protoman said appreciatively.
“I need a moment. Could you tell him to keep his eyes closed for me?”
“Keep his eyes closed? Can he fight blind?”
“That’s what I did,” she replied with a grin.
“Oh man, what’s wrong with my head?” Treno wondered out loud. “I feel bad.”
“I warned you not to come, but you didn’t listen to me,” NK said to his Op. And now I feel bad too.
“Don’t fight with me. We need to work together.”
“Well, a cross fuser on the Net again,” Toxyn observed as she pulled out a splinter of ice from her shoulder. “I welcome you. Hey now, pay attention boy.”
Treno’s eyes were glancing about. He was trying to keep an eye on everything around him and wasn’t sure what he should do now. Why did I do this? he thought to himself in a dawning despair. I’m a lover, not a fighter. But I needed to do something.
“You came after me, didn’t you boy?” Toxyn interrupted his thoughts with irritation showing in her voice. “If you’re going to fight me, then you’d better keep your attention on me!” She charged forward and kicked him in the chest, sending him flying back.
“Treno, what are you doing?” NeoKnight asked.
“Sorry, but I’m just feeling nervous now. And sick. I might even throw up.”
“Well, think of this then. You charged to Kaori’s rescue. This female will attack her again if you don’t take her on yourself.”
Treno was getting back to his feet and trying to keep distance from the approaching Zodiac navi. “Okay, yeah, but I’m really feeling not right.”
“Kaori said to keep your eyes closed,” Protoman said, coming up to his side.
“That would make fighting really tough. It’s the ribbons. Some light pattern from them. Maybe if I tried, uh, infrared. You have that, right NK?”
“Won’t work. I tried it before. I guess you’ll just have to use your ears.” Protoman then sidestepped away from Treno. He was moving slowly and deliberately and Treno guessed that he already had his eyes closed.
“Alright NK. I guess I will have to fight blind. But could you maybe boost the sound input? Make it easier to hear what she’s doing?”
“Alright Treno. If you’re sure about it, you’re sure you’re ready, then let’s do it!”
Treno closed his eyes and quieted his breathing. He listened as well as he could and he heard a lot, especially when NeoKnight compliantly boosted the sound for him. So much going on around me! The bull navi’s making a lot of noise. I can hear Havock overhead. That’s Kaori. I guess she’s dealing with the bull again. But where’s the one I’m after? There’s too much noise!
“What’s wrong fuser? Feeling a little sick?” Toxyn spoke to him. Treno twisted around, swinging his sword behind him, but didn’t connect. “Oh, I didn’t startle you, did I? If you’d been looking, you might have noticed me coming. Don’t you want to look? Aren’t I pretty?” Treno heard a sudden rustle ahead of him and felt a hard impact on his face. He landed on his back, momentarily stunned while Toxyn circled around him.
“Treno, get up!” NeoKnight whispered desperately. “Come on, hurry!”
I hear it. It’s so faint but… Treno thought as he forced himself to relax and concentrate on what he’d noticed. There. To my… left. Like pieces of cloth rubbing together. I hear the ribbons moving. He waited a moment more, and the rustle suddenly got louder. He swung his sword up in his right hand, over his body.
“Ow! You scum! That hurt!” He felt and impact on his chest, but this one wasn’t painful and he guessed that Toxyn was just trying to maintain her balance. He felt the pressure suddenly increase and he quickly rolled to his right side. His opponent instinctively flipped backwards when he did so, maintaining her balance rather than falling. “Hmm, you’re actually doing well, but that’s not going to last.”
Treno had gotten up while she was talking. “Oh, it’ll last all right. I’ve got more than enough to take you on.” Treno grinned to himself and waited for her, then heard her from his back-left. He swung back quickly, then found himself on the ground again. She’d done a sliding kick right under his swing. She got behind me! Why didn’t I hear that? Now panicking, he rolled away and scrambled to his feet.
“Don’t talk again,” NK whispered. “She used your voice to mask her approach.”
Oh, that makes sense. Treno heard her coming again and, rather than dodging, tried something new. He jumped into her charge and tackled her. He felt what he assumed was her knee hitting him in the outside of his thigh and then her hands on his chest as she tried to push away, but he managed to grab one of her wrists and tried to bring his sword to bear now that he knew right where she was. A smack on his right wrist knocked the sword out and led up to a heated grappling match. Leina would kill me if she saw this. She even said I don’t get to wrestle anyone but her. But this is serious stuff.
“You let go now!” Toxyn yelled and kicked him in the side.
“Forget it. I did not come here to lose!”
And that was, as they say, when all hell broke loose.

~Overhead, approaching the Battle~
Fly faster! Bass thought irritably at the spirit in control of his body.
“You sound better,” Dark spoke casually, though he was at least as eager as the body’s owner.
So what if I am? What would you care? Bass growled. He had never been possessed for this long, and was getting quite aggravated.
“Oh, that only means I can activate your current final transformation! True Form activate!” he called out as he hovered his host’s body in place over where Havock and Light were exchanging fire.
When Light heard his voice, she hit Havock with wind attack, knowing he would have less power momentarily. However, the program had developed the unexpected tendency to revert back to fire on its own after a time and Light was hoping his lesser power would last long enough. She then looked up as Dark went into a dive while glowing an intense, dark purple. “Good to see Dark is finally in control,” she breathed out in relief. There was something nagging at her attention though, like a warning. “But where have I seen that purple glow before?” she pondered as she watched Dark dive down at his recovering target.
Bass’s wings then transformed in a wave of dark power from the normal, purple energy feathers to glossy, black, real feathers. “NO! Dark Stop!” she shouted as he streaked past her and collided with Havock, putting a dent in the monster’s chest armor. With a howl of bestial fury, Dark began gouging into and tearing off piece’s of Havock’s armor with newly grown and very sharp claws.
What’s wrong? Lyne asked, confused by what she had just witnessed.
“Dark just activated Connor’s true form,” Light started to explain. “They’re out of control.”
But we’re already in our true forms, Lyne protested.
“Just listen. You’re not, but he is now. Your wings are still made of energy. Dark forced Connor to take on his full power, and has lost control of it.” Light bit her lip lightly and Lyne was worried by how nervous the spirit she shared her body with was. “I have to activate your own true form in order to counter it before they reach full berserk status. More than just Havock would be deleted. But you have to be accepting of this power. I won’t force it upon you unless it gets to be a dire situation.”
I’ll accept anything if it will help Connor, Lyne replied in a calm tone.
“I hope so, ‘cause this will rewrite your very DNA programming. Both of your matrixes,” Light warned. There was half a second’s pause, then Lyne made a short, affirmative grunt. “Fine then, brace yourself. Hopefully this won’t take long. Just don’t fight against it and it should be quick.” She brought the Angel Wings chip out of Lyne’s chip storage, then made a half nervous little laugh. “He really is ripping Havock a new one though, isn’t he?”
“Alright Lyne, here goes. DNA Release!” she commanded, making a small helix of DNA appear. “Download!” The helix twisted downward and was absorbed into Lyne’s open palm. Lyne felt a sudden burst of pain, a burning shock that jolted up through her arm and spread out through her body. Light took a deep breath and began chanting quietly. In surprisingly short order the pain dimmed and disappeared.
So, how long does it take then?
“You sound like the pain’s already gone.” She felt a mental nod from her host and smiled. “Good. Then we’re ready, and with little time to spare. Alright, here it goes. True Form Activate!” Light ordered. A bright glow flared into life around her, then quickly dissipated, leaving her hovering in the air, suspended on a pair of wings so light a lavender, they were almost white.
“Aaarraaah!” Dark howled as he hurtled by them leaving a trail of smoke in his wake. Havock had finally reverted to his dark soul’s natural element and smashed the rampaging Dark away. The program they’d come to destroy was certainly a mess now with a lot of chucks torn out of it, but it was still capable of deadly function. It began to pursue, but had to stop and avoid a hail of Buster shots from below. Megaman had halted his attack when Dark had begun his close-quarters mauling, but now he started firing again and since Havock had far less armor that before, the shots from Megaman’s Buster were actually able to cause noticeable damage.
“Okay, your brother can keep him pinned down. Now we can get Dark calmed down.” She turned about in the air, but didn’t see Dark behind her like she was expecting. She looked about the ground, then into the sky, and there she saw him. He was hovering in place with his arms spread up into the air and had a savage, bare toothed snarl locked onto Havock below. He was forming ever expanding masses of dark energy in his tensed hands. “Not now.”
What’s wrong now?
“He’s about to use a really powerful dark attack. We have to get the others out of here.” She sent a powerful mental message to all the allied navis still on the battlefield. JACK OUT RIGHT NOW!! She saw Megaman try to cover his ear armor, and then he glanced up at her and obediently disappeared. Kaori and Pyra leapt back from Khan and almost simultaneously disappeared. Protoman looked around and saw that he was not far from Treno and Toxyn, who were furiously trying to get the upper hand over one another. He charged in to help. Jack OUT! she commanded and then forcefully willed him to return to his PET. She the turned her will onto Treno.
“… What’s wrong with this navi? I have his signature, but he’s not budging,” Light grumbled in frustration when he remained.
Just then Lyne felt something strange coming from Dark and Bass. There’s no time. We have to act now! she spoke to Light, and the spirit went into action.
“Alright.” She flew up at Dark as fast as she could, intending to tackle him. “But you might not like what I’m going to have to do,” she spoke in a soft voice as Dark pointed Bass’s arms down at Havock.
“CHAOS NIGHTMARE!” he shouted sending what looked like a dual darkness overload at Havock. The program was completely engulfed in the blast, and when it hit the ground, the shockwave knocked flat all three combatants there: Treno, Toxyn, and Khan.
Nooo! Lyne cried stiffly as Light focused in on Dark, who was now diving to attack once more. She managed to tackle him and knock him back to the ground.
Dark snarled like an animal at Light as he tried to twist out of her grip, but the position he was in didn’t leave him the leverage he needed to gain control of the tackle and Light pinned his arms to the ground. “Grrraaahrr!”
“Don’t you growl at me,” Light snapped at him. “You’re the one who did something stupid. I’m only correcting it.” While they were in the middle of this, Protoman returned, looking a little annoyed.
“It’s okay Chaud. They can all come back now,” he said to his NetOp. Megaman and Pyra logged in before he was done speaking.
“What’s going on?” Megaman asked when he saw that Light and Dark were fighting.
“This isn’t the place for this,” Pyra called to them as Dark lashed out at Light, almost scratching her in the face.
“Dang, when did Bass get claws?” Protoman commented as he watched the close call.
“Hey, get off of him!” they heard from off to the side and saw that it was Kaori. Having returned, she roughly pulled Toxyn off of Treno, both of them being to out of it to move on their own. More struggling and a hiss brought their attention back to Light and Dark.
Before Dark could try anything else, Light quickly leaned down, wrapped her arm behind Dark’s head, and forced her host’s lips against his. She then glowed slightly, infusing some light energy into his system to bring his power level down so he could regain his sanity. Megaman’s jaw dropped in surprise as he watched his sister’s bold action. Light then released her kiss and stood up. “That was too close Dark,” she commented.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized in a weak tone.
“Good. As long as you learned a lesson about this.” She looked over to the impact point of Dark’s last attack. There only trace of Havock left was scattered bits in the new crater the powerful attack had made. She walked over to the edge of it, surveying it for a moment, then formed Lyne’s Angel Sword and pointed it into the crater. “Be gone Virus!” she demanded. From the bottom of the depression, red light swirled up and formed into an orb in front of her, locking eyes with her defiantly. She then pointed her sword towards the fallen Zodiac navis. “And take them with you,” she demanded again as they started to rise up off the ground, making the group of battle ready navis get ready to attack. “Stand down. He knows he has lost this fight.”
“Indeed. I knew it was you and Dark behind this attack Light. You can’t fool me, and this time it looks like you’re successful in finding new, hmm, bearers of those elements, and unlocked their full power. But we’ll see how long that lasts,” Alpha laughed.
Dark then got up and stalked over to the confrontation. “Leave Bastard!” he spoke in a harsh tone while flexing his claws. “Or I’ll be nasty and destroy you like I did your Havock program. Pixel by pixel. Or do you want to find out just how strong this body has become?”
“Not strong enough to win against the girl here,” Alpha spoke sarcastically.
“Shut it,” he spoke as he slashed at the virus, managing to wound it. “I can still harm you!”
“I see. Fine then. I’ll leave. But after I see something.” Dark bared his teeth and readied himself to strike again, but stopped as a rumbling noise went off behind them, making them turn around. What they saw was two buildings falling over and slamming into a third, sending them all to the ground like dominoes on a massive scale. Two small figures, a pair of navis, were just barely visible abandoning one of them. “Oops, will you look at that, heh, heh. Looks like next we meet there won’t much assistance. Later.”
Toxyn looked at her downed opponent. “You did well in our fight kid. Until next time we meet.”
“You can just stay well away from him!” Kaori spat angrily. Toxyn smirked crookedly and went to join Khan, who glared at Dark and Light before disappearing from sight with Alpha.
Dark placed a gentle arm on Light’s shoulder. “It’s time for us to leave as well. We have accomplished our task.” Light nodded in agreement as they closed their eyes.
They spoke in unison. “Release!” A fine mist left their bodies, and their host’s collapsed to the ground.
“Lyne!” Megaman called out as he rushed up to his sister to see if she was still operating. He glanced over Bass quickly, then turned his attention back to Lyne, trying to wake her up.
“Don’t worry warrior,” a disembodied, feminine voice spoke gently from behind him. “They’re both fine.”
This made him freeze and slowly look back at the voice’s owner. “GHOSTS!” he exclaimed as he took notice of two apparitions standing there. He took cover in a flash, using the nearest convenient navi: Protoman.
“What’s wrong with you?” he asked as Mega managed to point his finger at the two transparent beings. “I don’t know who’s worse, you or your brother.”
“Never mind that,” Pyra spoke as she turned to face the duo. “You both said they were fine, so we’ll trust you on that fact. But who and what are you?”
“Well for one thing,” the male one spoke. “We’re not ghosts, we’re spirits.”
“That’s right,” the female agreed. “We were once the bearers of the Light and Dark elements, which now reside inside them. Our bonds to them have been released so we can now rest. Our time serving the Network has ended and it is now their time to take over protecting it.”
Mega poked his head out from behind Protoman and looked at them in some confusion. “What do you mean by that?”
“Basically, they are now the Master Elements of Light and Dark and we are not. We passed on the power to them, thus they become the elements themselves,” the male responded to Mega’s question. The three navis looking at them still had blank, confused expressions. “Do I have to explain this again?” he asked in frustration. “They’re-”
“It’s okay,” Light stopped him, placing her hand over his mouth. “They’re navis after all, and will piece the information together eventually.” She turned to face the group. “Take real good care of them. They might feel a little drained for the next few hours, but that is perfectly normal after a fight with that Havock program. Farewell.” She and Dark waved and faded away.
Mega came out from his hiding spot and stared at the spot they had disappeared from for a moment. “That was strange.”
“How so?” Pyra asked him.
“Usually, ghosts chase people and navis around to scare them. These two just had to tell us strange things I still don’t understand.”
“Megaman, are you familiar with the word inheritance?” Protoman asked.
“Well yeah,” he replied, now paying attention to the taller navi.
“Okay, what they were saying was that Lyne and Bass had inherited the power they were bonded too,” Protoman spoke as he gestured to Megaman’s sister and Bass.
“Oh, but didn’t they have it already?” Mega asked.
“Probably not fully until just a few moments ago when those spirits left.”
Pyra left Megaman and Protoman to join Kaori, who was fussing over the unconscious Treno. Lyne shortly thereafter slowly opened her eyes to see that Megaman was cradling her head in concern. “You okay sis?”
“Mmnnn. Yeah, I think so.” She turned her head to check on Bass and was relieved to see that he was coming to as well. She waited until he was conscious enough to start looking about himself before she projected to him. Connor… um, did we...?
What? he asked back in a daze.
You know… When Light and Dark were in control of us. Did we…? she trailed off again. Bass was still having some trouble thinking, but eventually his eyes went wide in shock once he realized what she was asking. He shook his head vigorously.
No we didn’t, he replied quickly, still shaking his head.
But… Lyne argued.
Bass glared back at her. We were possessed. Their actions don’t count.
Bu…
It doesn’t count. End of discussion, he thought back angrily as he got up off the ground and started to walk off to give them some distance. Lyne just sat there, confused as to why Light had made them do that terrible thing in the first place.
“Uh…” Kaori spoke, getting the group’s attention. “Can someone help? Something’s wrong with NK,” she spoke in a distraught tone.
Lyne got up and went with her brother and Protoman to check up on him and Bass joined up with them, wondering what was wrong with his old friend. “When did he start not doing so well?” Megaman asked.
“I thought his hair was blue,” Protoman observed quietly. Kaori glanced up at him and blinked in surprise.
“Well, yeah. That’s weird, but I didn’t know what to make of it,” Kaori replied.
Bass looked his friend over, noting that his arm was un-functional and he was laboring to breathe. Lyne placed her hand on his head and started a scan on him. She realized that problem right away. “Umm… Connor? Did Dark make you leave the battle at anytime?”
Bass twitched his wings and crossed his arms over his chest, slightly miffed that she would suggest such a silly thing. “No, I was here the whole time, fighting with the jerk. Wait, why did you ask me that in the first place? … Oh, I’m not speaking Demonscript anymore.”
“Huh? Oh yeah, that’s gr… Mmm, that’s not the point Connor,” she moaned in annoyance that he’d sidetracked her from the problem. “This isn’t exactly NK here. Are you sure you didn’t leave?”
“He didn’t,” came a response from Treno. “I made NK log out so he could get a power boost. How’s it hanging Connor?” Treno asked, giving Bass a thumbs up with his good arm.
“Treno?!” Bass exclaimed, getting a nod from the injured cross fuser. Bass stood there quietly for a moment as he scanned him.
“Oooohhhh, cross fusion,” Megaman said, now understanding. “That’s why his hair’s a different color. But…”
“How did this happen?” Bass added on, continuing what Megaman hadn’t finished saying. He tugged on his hair long hair while he tried to puzzle it out.
“Simple,” a voice spoke behind their group. Everyone turned to see Gateman standing there with a couple of medic type navis who came to check on the team members who were still there. They made a particular fuss over Pyra, who shoed them away, and Lyne, who’d suffered some burns due to close quarters fighting against Havock Burnerman. “Mr. Altain used illegal, unpatented technology,” Gateman continued, holding up one of his fingers. “Famous has been watching you for a while now Mr. Altain, and has a proposal for you. And it looks like you’re in no position to negotiate a way out of it.”
“What Famous wasn’t smart enough to figure out how the Data Sync Chip worked?” Treno asked back sharply, not pleased to be cornered with blackmail. Having an injured arm and being momentarily stuck on the Network just made up the icing on a bitter cake.
“Yeah!” NK agreed with his NetOp.
“You being a merc do know what consequences you face if you don’t accept Famous’s offer, right?” Gateman spoke, making Treno hang his head and Kaori whimper in concern.
“Yes I know,” he replied as he stroked Kaori on the top of the head to calm her down.
“Gateman, this isn’t fair,” Bass protested. “My relation has no right to hold him. That’s blackmail. Let him go with a slap on the wrist,” Bass pleaded as he stood in Gateman’s way.
“He’s done this on more than one occasion, be them experimental, but this time he’s crossed the line into NetSavoir affairs, and you know that is punishable under IDC law,” Gateman spoke, making Bass hang his head and look down at Treno.
“It’s alright Connor. It’s nice of you to stand up for me and NK, but we’ll be fine,” he said, grabbing Bass’ hand and giving it a confident squeeze. “Can we discuss the terms of this proposal elsewhere. My arm feels… kinda’ broken. Connor was really packing some power back there.”
“Kinda’ broken nothing,” Lyne grumped as she removed her hand from his head. “It’s fractured in more than one place. I’m logging him out at SciLab’s medical wing.” She gently pushed away the medics working on her and bent down to grab Treno, but found that her head started to feel swimmy all of a sudden and she had to put her hands on her knees and crouch to catch her breath just to keep from falling over.
“Hey, Lyne! What’s worng?” Bass quickly asked in concern and started over to her, but he stumbled when his head went swimmy as well. Pyra caught him before he fell over, but he was already losing consciousness and his upgraded armor reverted to normal when he finally passed out.
“Looks like you’re no the only one who needs to see a doc,” Kaori spoke as Megaman caught his sister by the shoulders when her balance faltered.
“Thanks… Hub,” Lyne said weakly as her True Form armor vanished and her consciousness drifted away.
“Famous will be over to SciLab momentarily,” Gateman spoke. “Please ensure that these three get logged out before he gets there.” He got a affirmative nod from Pyra and returned to his PET.
“Well, let’s do as the man said,” Protoman said as he took Treno gently from Kaori. “I suggest you get in contact with your NetOp. She might want to know what’s going on.”
Kaori nodded and disappeared from their sight. The rest of them then left for SciLab’s medical wing for some much-needed repairs.

~Later~ Havock Crater~
The damaged area left behind was fairly quiet, with only a scattered few viruses around. Analyzers had stopped their investigation for now and left the area cordoned off. Basically, they’d decided to leave it alone so the viruses could do their job of cleaning things up. This part of the Network was not inhabited by navis, so the primary effort right now was to undo the damage done by Maniac to the three buildings he’d knocked down and the area surrounding them.
While there were viruses there, only a couple of them were daring enough to actually enter the crater. They could sense that the scattered fragments of Havock’s data were of something foul, so it was left to a pair of particularly aggressive Spiky viruses to scavenge the remains leaving all the others in the area to collect what they could outside the crater or watch the Spikies enviously as they got their fill.
A glowing began under the rubble and one of the Spikies went over to sniff at it as an orb of swirling, multicolored data rose up. The dog-like virus looked at the orb a moment, then gave a convulsive jerk and then began a violent seizure. Its companion began whining and tried to back out of the crater, then it too went into convulsions. All the other viruses around quickly ran off, so there was not a single soul to see the rest.
Some bits of data liquefied, then oozed about amorphously, attaching to solid fragments, the two Spikies, and the multicolored orb. The liquid data contracted, pulling all of the pieces together and reforming it into a twisted quadruped form. It clambered up out of the hole on malformed but functional limbs, chose its direction, and began steadily trotting to its default destination. Burnerman’s Dark Soul was deleted and Havock was returning to its master: Maniac.

Next Season Preview
~In the studio lobby, getting ready to go home~
Megaman: Hey Author. What’s that last page there? Is that an extra scene for the episode?
Author: Oh this? *Hides the last scene of the episode.* Don’t worry. It’s nothing.
Megaman: Oh, okay. So then, that was it huh? I thought Zodiac was going to be defeated.
Editor: Nah. We’ve got more stuff to put you through. I mean, more work for you. So you’ll stay employed. Heh, heh.
Protoman: I don’t like the way that sounded.
Author: He just means you’ve got another season ahead of you.
Editor: And that means more big fights.
Bass: And big explosions!
Ken: *Sidles up to Lyne.* Romance.
Bass: Ken getting fed to Gospel.
Ken: *Backs away from Lyne.* Hey, take it easy chum.
NeoKnight: What about wild adventures?
Author: Maybe.
Kaori: What about late night stealth missions?
Editor: Uhh, we might consider that.
Leina: What about smacking Treno for that wrestling match with that Zodiac witch? *Hits Treno upside the head.*
Treno: Ow! Hey come on. It’s not like it was playing around. That was a real fight! *Puts his hands up defensively when Leina clenches her fist.* Okay! I’m sorry.
Kaori: That’s a good, trained boy. Oh yeah! *Kicks NeoKnight upside the head.* That’s for that wrestling match with that Zodiac witch.
NeoKnight: *From floor.* Ooowwww. Why a kick Kaori? Leina only used her palm.
Kaori: Navis can take more punishment. And it means I’ll have to take more time nursing you back to health. *Smiles and winks at NK. Everyone else clears their throats and sweat-drops.*
Editor: Well, all that aside, it’s a new season. Anything could happen.
Lan: Could we have lots of curry!?
Editor: Uh, you already do that.
Bass: Can I blow stuff up!?
Lyne: You can behave yourself!
Bass: How about a bar then?
Lyne and the adults: NO!!
Maniac: Can I break things!?
Author: Can’t see why not.
Editor: Come on guys. Anything could happen! We could turn NK into a baby.
NeoKnight: Wha? !!Poof!! Googaa?
Editor: Or turn Bass into a girl. Gurk!
Bass: Don’t you dare.
Editor: Or we could not.
Author: This isn’t the Alternet hon. Don’t abuse the Editor’s Pen or I’ll take it away from you.
Editor: Awww.
Lyne: Oh, it’s so exciting! So, what is going to happen!
Author: A whole lot! And it all begins with the first episode of Lan and Lyne season three, Episode 1: Jawaiian Fishing. We’ll see you there!
Kaori: Uh, could someone turn NK back please? _________________ "NetAngel Style Change Activate"

*thunderous applause*
This ending was absolutely phenomenal. You certainly spared no expense in making the final combat as active as possible, and it was quite thrilling to track. The characters seemed to shine quite well, and I suppose it was a somewhat refreshing change of pace to see the rest of the minor characters that were somewhat ignored in the rest of the arc. This certainly exceeded expectations for what I imagined to be the final combat, and it was an absolute joy to read.
I'm sure other readers will agree that this final bipartite chpater is well-worth the wait. Congratulations on finishing another complete arc, and best of luck for the next season. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! O.o I have to borrow your vocabulary sometime Midnight. I've never heard the word 'bipartite' before, although it only took me a second or two to figure out it meant "made into two distinct sections due to how friggin' long it is." I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and Meg was glad to have the thunderous applause.
I only hope that nobody gets too confused by the amount of different things going on, especially since so many things have to be considered occuring simultaneously with a previous section. I also hope people aren't disappointed by certain parts of the combat being less focused on. Too... many... navis! And I still probably have to go through it to take care of glitches that I missed (Meg had to fix some formatting and a gender hiccup, and I saw three glaring errors after she posted, at least one of which was from a section I added T_T ). Oh well. On to season three! ^_^ _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

Thank you guys. *Takes a bow* ^_^ Episode 1 of Season 3 (still need to think up a cool title for the season :stonecube: ) should be up soon before my departure to exotic places unknown. This time me and editor are switching roles in this trip.
I'm also hoping to see some artwork done by anyone inspired to draw something from this fict. I have placed a link to the L and L art thread in my sig, and anyone who has art for it is welcome to post there. One simple rule though. If it's not yours don't post it. The L and L staff is looking for contrabutions so we can get our website up and running and maybe become an accociate of REO.
I'm also taking character contrabutions still. Just PM me if you have a character you want to see in this fict. I will do my best to see if they will fit in and if I can your name gets to go in the credit section of Season 3. That's all I can think of at the moment so I wish you all well in this coming year and season. _________________ "NetAngel Style Change Activate"

Well, good luck with season 3. Even though I don't comment much, I'm still watching this fic like a hawk :p
The thing I'm looking forward to most, I guess is the new fan characters. Hopefully there's some more than just mine. |

An absolutely terrific end to a great Season! I loved following the battles and action that took place, and all the characters got to make a final appearance. Obviously Season Three already shows enormous promise, as this ending certainly sounded ominous. ;) Can't wait to read the next episode, and here's to another full season. :D
And I also might make a post in your art thread. ^^ I've been inspired so many times by this fic. XD _________________

That way past awesome! A grand battle and more excitement than you can shake a cinnamon roll at! ^__^ I enjoyed it all!!!
The way this season ended makes way for so much more to happen. It kinda makes me glad that the Zodiac navis are still around to scheme up more plans. And I know I was glad to see all the minor characters show up again.
If I knew how to draw well,I'd definitely make some contributions, but that isn't my forte. :grr:
So yeah! Congradulations on another supremely awesome season!! ^_^ _________________ "When it rains,it pours. When it pours, get out of the rain." -quoth me!
