Special Gift - An X-Mass fic AU - One Shot

"Are you sure they're old enough to handle it?"

A voice asked softly. A young brown haired woman eyed a package that rested in her husband's hands.

"Well, they're in elementary school already. And I don't think he'd be willing to wait much longer." Yuuichirou Hikari sighed as he played iddly with the red ribbon that decorated the wrapped box in his hands.

"I hope this is the right thing to do." Haruka sighed once more. She didn't feel very comfortable with the idea, but decided to hope for the best. "I'll go call them."

Yuuichirou nodded and carefully pressed the present under the tree. It was christmas eve and he and his family were preparing to attent the christmas festival held in the Akihara Elementary School, where his children would perform in tonight's event.

"We're ready!" Two aubrun haired children ran downstairs clad in little blue suits with ties, red and white fuzzy mufflers were wrapped around their shoulders, and little golden foil wings attached to their backs.

"Oh, just look at yourselves!" Haruka cooed as she rushed to hug her twins, trying to comb Netto's hair a bit more without much success, "You two look so adorable. Wouldn't you agree, papa?"

Yuuichirou nodded and held his arms out as Netto and Saito rushed to his arms to hug him. "Alright, let's get going now."

Yuuchirou and Haruka simled as the event began, several carols were performed by the students of different grades. Netto and Saito sang happily, smiling widely as their parents looked at them in delight. A little pinkish red haired girl stood next to them, singing along with the twins. Her little blue dress and muffler matched the boys' outfit.

Saito blushed lightly when his and Netto's solo approached, nervious about his performance. Netto took his twin's hand, squeezing it gently and reassuringly.

"We'll be fine." Netto whispered as he step forward, almost dragging Saito with him. The other child nodded and smiled as he and his brother took their position, still holding hands as they began to sing alone.

Yuuichirou and Haruka grinned proudly at their kids, although Netto's singing wasn't as good as Saito's the two made up for a lovely interpretation, holding hands and mimmicking each other's hand gestures following their song, earning an early array of claps from the guests to the event.

After the event finished, Meiru, Netto and Saito rushed to hug their parents, each one giving a card to them that they constructed in class, wishing a merry christmas to them.

"Merry Christmas, Netto and Saito!" Meiru chimed as she hugged both boys tightly.

"Merry Christmas, Meiru-chan!" Netto replied, trying to pry himself out of the little girl's iron grip. Saito nodded and wished her a merry christmas as well.

"Let's go home and have dinner. Remember surprises might await for you under the tree if you two were good boys this year." Their mother smiled as she gathered Netto in her arms, while Yuuichirou picked Saito.

The next morning was calm and quiet, the snow kept falling gently over the streets. The Hikari family slept peacefuly, or at least, three of them were.

"Saito-kun!!"

"W-Wha??" Saito jumped to a sitting position in his bed, abruptly awoken by the loud calling of his twin. "Netto-kun?... what's the matter?" He said while rubbing his eyes and yawning sleepily.

"It's christmas! Remember what mama said? If we were good we'd find surprises under the tree!" Netto bounced in his brother's bed, taking his arm and trying to pull him out so they could go downstairs and inspect the tree for any presents.

Saito grumbled lightly but gave in and allowed his brother to drag him downstairs. He blinked a few times to try to wake up completely, unable to help but look in wonder at the presents pilled under the tree.

"Why I'm not surprised today is the only day of the year when Netto wakes up before Saito does?" Haruka yawned softly, tieing her robe as she did.

"Well, I guess it's better we open the presents now, right?" Dr. Hikari smiled and walked with his wife towards the tree. He sat down in the floor with his children, digging under the tree for the presents. "Oh, it seems we have a very special present for Netto and Saito here." He grinned and handed the box to the twins.

"I wonder what is it?" Netto smiled, nudging his brother to help him to open it. Carefuly, they extracted the item from its box, staring curiously to what looked like a ping pong racket.

"What is this, papa?" Saito asked curiously while Netto looked over at the object in confussion.

"Your very own PET." Yuuichirou grinned and reached out to help the twins to open the fliptop cover. "Press this button and you'll get a surprise."

Netto blinked and looked at his twin for reassurance before he pressed the button. A screen displayed a logo before the PET's screen loaded all its content. A shower of pixels quickly formed a figure clad in a purple suit with a set of greenish yellow accents in his forms. Two ruby red eyes blinked a couple of times before he smiled.

"Good Morning, Netto-kun, Saito-kun."

The twins gasped in surprise, looking down to the screen to their very own navi. "You're our navi?" Saito asked in excitement.

The purple figure nodded and smiled widely, "I'm yours and your bother's personal net navigator software. I'm Dark Rockman. Nice to meet you."

"Dark? Why?" Netto asked confussed, earning an amused chuckle of his navi.

"Because I am special. And a bit grumpy perhaps." He winked playfully to the children, making them laugh softly, "You two are going to have to share me, though. Is that alright with you?"

"Yes!" Both nodded at unison as they chattered with the navi, excited to have a 'special' navi all to themselves.

Yuuichirou sighed contently as he held his wife close, both watching their children talk with their navi, Netto and Saito sharing turns to hold it and learn to use the PET's features as Dark Rockman explained them to the children. This was, indeed, a very special christmas gift for them.

Anyway...much agreed with the other two. This was quite a piece--and it's just too uncommonly cute to see Netto and Saito together, interacting in this alternate timeline. I have to admit, I didn't see Dark Rock come into this story at all, and I would have never expected it, but it all makes sense at this point. Great job. \o/

It's exceedingly adorable Planty, nice job! Netto and Saito were quite cute during their Christmas performance and Netto waking up Saito was also very cute. While the whole story screamed adorable, I found Dark Rockman doing his trademark grin out of two young boy's PETs to be a tad creepy. O_O
