The best way to get that kind of thing across is to look at the post and if you think there'll be trouble with how people interpret it, explain what you mean beforehand.
And about the Final Fantasy thing, I think the person's talking about how there's not many Japanese X-Box games, rather than it not specifically playing the PS2 Final Fantasies.
There is a company working on that. A group that branched off from Square Enix called Mistwalker, is producing games mainly for the X-Box 360 to try and make some interesting games for it and I believe get Japanese developers more interested in the system too. |

You make many excellent points, yxnomei.
You're right that EA is wrongly labled as "the evil" of gaming. That's not to say they don't do SOME things distastefully, such as banking on franchises and then neglecting to make an actually worthwhile game. After all, franchises aren't bad per se, it's only when the producers use it's existing fanbase as an excuse to be lazy.
In my opinion (note that this is ONLY my opinion), the true evil of gaming is Sony, because they don't make the effort to attract customers by making their products actually worthwhile, they simply make their products look flashy ("sexy" as so many gaming officials like to say. Since when did inanimate objects have to be sexy?), throw their money around to buy third-party support, and force customers to repurchase their fragile products over and over again to bilk extra money out of them. If none of that can be considered "evil", then I don't know what evil qualifies as anymore.
As for your analysis of the Megaman games, I think maybe you're being a bit cynical. The reason Capcom hasn't done much to compete with modren gaming is because it doesn't need to in order to retain its fanbase. We like Megaman not simply because of the character, but because of the gaming genre he represents. A major trademark of nearly every Megaman has been hefty amounts of action with an equal or greater amount of difficulty. And despite this formula that Capcom has followed with essentially every game, they've still managed to add enough variety to the games to make each one a fresh experience. Ask any Megaman fan and you'll find that they have preferred favorites among the games for specific reasons. As for "the dreaded card-battling game" and Command Mission, I hear plenty of people liked both games, so I'd hardly say we were "fobbed."
Also for the sake of on-topicness, I'd like to point out the basic economis rule of Supply and Demand. American gamers demand quick, addictive gameplay and plenty of realism, so that is what American companies supply. Japanese gamers demand very imaginative games, so that is what Japanese companies supply. If you want the Japanese games over here, Demand it and they will Supply it. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

Well I admit I like the more imaginative games to be honest. Seeing fresh storyline's with good plots beat out the multitude's of FPS games that have no real plot and in essance follow the same gameplay formula but under different name's and different enemies any day.
But then again that's my opinion. After all not all of us HAS to like Halo. |

Japanese games do that just as much though. >_>
Quite a lot of fighting games, puzzle games, old RPGs and old platformers from JApan follow the same or a very similar formula, in the same way that FPS games do.
If you count games in the same series, then even each Rockman series more or less does that as it's been mentioned already. Also, in Rockman's case it's not because I dislike Rockman or them being similar at all, I just think that each Rockman game isn't much different from the rest of it's series. |

Yeah that's true but I never liked puzzle games or fighting games much anyways because those strive more on gameplay than plot.
And yeah I agree that RPG's technically follow the same formula what with the world being doomed and all but the story more than makes up for it being cliche.
What's imaginitive about FPS's though? You just go around shooting things... that hardly requires strategy and heck most of the time the enemies just run right into your line of fire! Even in Metroid Prime 1 and 2 they did that and the AI in that game was supposedly better than Halo's.
But I'm not saying that Japan doesn't suffer from the same problems all I'm saying is that I'm more into the imaginative games than the "realism" in games American's tend to love. I couldn't care less if a game is realistic or not because it's a friggin' video game. It's not SUPPOSED to be realistic.

lol, can you flame anything but FPSes and Halo? You've gotta be the most unoriginal "amerika sucks" troll I've seen in years.
Who cares if they're "unimaginative?" They're fun, and that's the bottom line. Who says they're supposed to be un/realistic? What the hell have you been reading? |

And you flame anything that's Japanese. You've got to be the most unoriginal "Japan sucks" troll I've seen outside of Gamefaqs.
Seriously though why bother fighting about this? No one is going to change their opinion. I like imaginitive games with good plots and characters... and you like FPS's where you have pure gameplay and all the blood and gore you could ask for. Oh and maybe I should add in Grand Theft Auto too so that way I'm not just "flaming FPS's and Halo."
One more thing. If a game is supposed to be fun then who care's if it's American or Japanese? Games are meant to be fun no matter what country they come from. This seems's more like an argument about trying to prove which country is superior.

People have fun shooting things, didn't you know?
Aethos wrote: | that hardly requires strategy |
Hardly? I assume you can accomplish the feat of speed running a FPS such as, dunno, Goldeneye, without dying once, without a month of training (as most speedrunners do), in a single-segment and in the hardest mode available. Can you?

That's because you're probably playing a very lame FPS.
You're not gonna win this one, Aethos, let it go already. People like FPS's. And no, not everyone on this damn world likes Halo, and Halo is not the only FPS on the world either. Pick another example already.

This sounds by far the most intelligent comment here.
And without further ado, because this pointless bickering is getting annoying, the topic is locked. _________________
