i really like that part but just to tell your whole story is really good.
i read it as if it was harry potter.i get into it and i'm not out untill its finished.i also love how you put more emotion into a character than the real series did.plus it fasinating how you took so many things that already exsisted and did a story which could very well look as if it was started from scratch.
too bad that there aren't other people complimenting the story in this forum(as i don't know if you have the story elsewhere like at fanfiction.net) _________________ don't mind me.I'm quite quiet.

Foreword: Megarush: Thanks for the comments. They definitely help keep me motivated.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Guided Missile!” Jane fired off another missile barrage, taking out more fliers. She had lost count of how many she’d used, only being thankful that she didn’t have a limited supply. Still, it seemed like no matter how many she shot down, there were always more to take their places. Was there even an end to them?
Three grounders rolled in front of her as she readied her next Guided Missile attack. She had already targeted more fliers and changing to the grounders would take precious moment, so she tried to leap away as they opened fire. The lasers tore through her left shoulder, sending flakes of heated, or even melted, metal flying and she was unable to move her arm. She hated those things.
“Track Laser!” Using her right arm, she streaked a laser beam through the three grounders and then circled to pick off the others that were coming in like vultures.
More grounders began to roll in as if they all knew her Form was damaged. Before any of them could line up their shots, she switched to Quickmon and ran through the line of incoming grounders, tearing through them with her blades and then began to seek out others while firing Sonic Shots into the air. The each only took out one or two fliers, but that was better than nothing.
Firing another Sonic Shot, she felt her feet hit a chunk of metal and the next thing she knew, she was in the air while falling towards the ground. Her chest hit first, and then she bounced up and was flipped on to her back before landing again. A couple smaller bounces that kept her on her back later and she finally stopped.
Slightly dazed and fairly sore, she stumbled back up and saw the chunk of metal that tripped her. It was a grounder she had cut in half earlier. Now she really hated those things.
Remembering she was in the middle of a battle, she looked around to see the grounders that were undoubtedly coming to take advantage of this, but she didn’t see any. Come to think of it, the sky was clear. What happened to the endless swarm of robots?
A large shadow fell over her and she knew she had her answer.
***
“Final Freeze!” That was number five. The fliers dropped like flies from Max’s onslaught, but it just didn’t seem to be making enough difference. Or any difference for that matter.
He took a few seconds to catch his breath. Final Freeze was not meant to be used this freely, but Ice Slasher would be worthless here. He looked around and saw several grounders come rolling in. <Aw, give me a break already!> He pointed his hands at them and painfully gathered more energy. “Final Freeze!” Five grounders were destroyed but more came.
He tried to ready another Final Freeze, but it was getting to difficult to get more energy. <My Form’s spent. I wish Burnermon was better for this.> He switched to Burnermon and welcomed the relief that came from moving from a worn Form to a fresh one. <I hope Freezemon recharges fast.>
Two grounders opened fire and their lasers tore into Max’s chest. They didn’t penetrate the armour, but they did tear a good chunk of it off, exposing the circuitry underneath. He cursed himself for not being more careful. The Burnermon Form was needed to give the Freezemon enough time to heal and getting destroyed right after transforming wasn’t the way to do it!
Now what? Another hit like that and Burnermon would never heal quickly enough, but Freezemon has almost no fight left. <Forget it. I’ll stay with Burnermon. I’ve been good at avoiding damage for the most part, I’ll just have to fight defensively.>
“Blazing Punch!” He charged at the grounders responsible for the injury while zigzagging around their lasers. As soon as he punched through their heads, he looked for more targets but saw all the robots retreating back into the fortress. <What’s going on?! We couldn’t have been doing that well!>
He looked around and saw Jane in her Quickmon Form get up and run as an object descended from above. A robot. It was just one robot, but somehow Max suspected that it would be worse than the army they were fighting before.
***
The mystery robot flew straight up straight up, still firing it’s lasers down on Sora. She chased after spiralling around them, but the robot suddenly stopped, and then compartments popped out of the sides of the chest, hips, arms, and legs. Sora stopped not sure what to make of this. She focused her eyes on one of the compartments and saw four small missiles. <Uh oh!>
The robot fired one missile from each compartment at Sora. “Blazing Wing!” One nice thing about missiles is that they were slow enough for her to intercept and explosions provided cover.
As her attack repelled them, she blasted through the explosions but the robot had already begun flying down between the buildings again, firing its lasers. She chased after as it lead her between the buildings in all directions. Once the robot took a turn around one, Sora once kept going straight and took the later turn hoping this time it would work.
Once again, the robot came in front of her as she charged. The robot looked and suddenly bolted away without even turning its body around. The compartments opened, each one now with just three missiles, and fired another salvo.
Sora didn’t bother intercepting this time; the robot was clearly too fast for it to give any advantage and the area was cramped enough that the missiles wouldn’t get too far. She flew forward as several exploded on the walls. They didn’t seem to be homing missiles and since the compartments didn’t reload, that probably it only had two salvos left and there couldn’t be too much power left for the lasers- not with the way this thing’s been firing.
The robot flew backwards, but Sora didn’t follow. Instead, she rounded the nearest building hoping for another interception. She reached a turn and started to enter it but the corner of eye caught something. A quick glance showed her that the robot was chasing her.
She swerved upwards above the buildings and stopped. The robot shot by underneath and rolled to face her, pointing its lasers. She bolted forward as the robot began firing and managed to reach it before it could start moving away. She shoved its weapon aside and jabbed her claws at its head, but it bolted backwards and opened its missile compartments. Sora flew back as it fired the two remaining salvos and the charged again, weaving around them.
The robot turned its back as Sora cleared the missiles and flew off into the distance. Sora didn’t bother chasing. The fight was over.
<What was that about?> she wondered. A guard robot wouldn’t just run away because it nearly took a hit. That had to be something else. Something that had some kind vendetta against her. <Did it attack me because I fly too? Or was it something else?>
Shaking her head to clear away the distracting thoughts, she turned around and quickly located the fortress, but something was missing. She flew towards it and the answer came: The cloud of fliers was gone! But how? Max and Jane didn’t have nearly enough firepower to destroy them all so quickly. Something was going on and she didn’t like it.
***
Jane eyed the shiny black robot. The head was cockpit-shaped, with red eyes and a mouth that appeared reptilian, even dragon-like. Out of the sides came two skeletal arms with a large, three fingered, clawed hand on the end of each. Out of the bottom came to bird-like legs and feet. On the back was a large and thick scorpion-like tail. This thing looked nasty.
Jane switched to Cybermon, hoping that it healed enough. Well, the arm was mobile again, so apparently it did. “Track Laser!” The laser struck the robot in the side of its head, but it didn’t seem to do anything. “Guided Missile!” All four of her missiles struck the robot, but when the explosions ended, the robot wasn’t even scathed.
“Final Freeze!” Max came in from behind her, out of his aura‘s range of course, though his Form looked very worn out. The ice beam quickly covered the robot in ice, but it immediately busted out with a simple arm movement.
It looked at Max and its mouth opened. Max had already begun running to the side when a large laser fired from the mouth and narrowly missed Max. It went on and took a large chunk of a building behind him. At least a third.
A small compartment popped out of its head and pointed at Jane. She saw two missiles and immediately switched to Quickmon. Right as she began running, the two missiles launched. She instantly saw that she couldn’t build up enough running speed to escape them, so she twisted around them as fast as possible and fell on to her side, but at least the fastest missiles she’d ever seen overshot.
“Sonic Shot!” She fired her Sonic Shots all over the robot’s body, hoping to find a weak point, but it simply opened its mouth again and lasers stormed out. She desperately danced around them, barely managing not to fall over with each step. How she missed the endless grounders and fliers.
“Final Freeze!” Max’s ice beam caught the robot in the mouth and soon froze its body over again. What was Max doing? Freezing it didn’t work. But then Max switched to Burnermon and Jane understood.
Max’s Form had two types of ice. The normal kind and a special type which had some type of explosive chemical frozen within. As a result, when touched be fire, rather than melt, the ice would explode. The explosive ice was harder to do and no stronger than the normal, so Max never used it unless the explosion was needed. “Flame Shooter!”
The fireballs hit the ice became a gigantic fireball. When the blast cleared, the robot stepped out of the smoke with no visible damage whatsoever. Didn’t anything work on this monster?!
It pointed its tail at Jane and she got ready to move as the point opened up into three parts and began glowing white. She started running as a white laser shot from the tail streaking by where she was a fraction of a second ago and went on to tear through three buildings, taking off nearly half of each. <If Mikain’s got this thing, why does he want Viralmon so badly?!>
“Drill Dive!” Hearing Sora’s attack Jane looked up and saw her come down. She smiled to herself. This walking scrap heap had no idea what it was in for. That drill could pierce any substance. Only the Imperialdramon with the power of the virus could handle it and Sora’s grown stronger since then. The robot didn’t seem to notice and Sora’s Drill Dive came right down on its head. But, as soon as she hit, the drill shattered and she bounced off. Jane rushed over and helped her up, not believing what had happened.
“What is that thing?!” Sora asked, “My drill is reinforced chrome digizoid! There’s nothing in the Digital World that could possibly be so strong to shatter it like that!” Jane wasn’t sure what to say. Sora may have well of been using a glass drill.
Max ran over. “That thing doesn’t seem to be interested in attacking us now,” he said, pointing behind them. Jane looked and saw the fortress. The robot was clearly unwilling to risk any damage to it. Of course, it wouldn’t take long for it to try fighting hand-to-hand and Jane was positive that her Cybermon Form’s strength wouldn’t accomplish anything.
“Let’s just get out of here,” she said, “That thing’s gonna kill us.”
Sora took a deep breath. “I guess you’re right. That thing seems to be invincible.”
“We did our part,” Max said, “and if it’s just a guard like the little guys, it’ll leave once we do. We’ll just have to come back once we’re ready for round two.”

Flame drew its fist back for another punch. Tai knew he wouldn’t be able to dodge this time and if by some miracle he did, Flame would simply try again. And with Flame holding him against the wall, dodging was impossible.
What could he do? He couldn’t push with enough force in a short enough time, or even damage Flame’s arm for that matter. <Wish I had a second Form. Then I could just use the shape difference between the two to push him off. Wait a minute, I should be able to do that now!>
He reverted back to human and dropped slightly as Flame fell forward slightly. He immediately transformed back and with Flame’s hand being where his Form was appearing, Flame was pushed back.
Using the moment of surprise, Tai threw his own punch, but Flame responded quickly by catching his fist and pulling it over its shoulder causing Tai to be thrown on to his back.
He sprung himself back up and raised his arms. “Terra Force!” Flame twisted around the fireball and spun forming the Terra Force tornado. Tai leapt over it and towards Flame, grabbing on to its chest, forcing it to the ground, but at the last second, Flame managed to twist itself around causing Tai to be put on the bottom.
His back hit the floor, but he ignored the pain and tried to kick Flame off, but Flame leapt off as he kicked. Tai flipped up to his feet and charged with a punch. Flame responded the same way and their fists met. Tai’s entire body shuddered from the impact as he was lifted off the ground and hit the wall.
Flame leapt at Tai with its right fist raised. Tai rolled away as Flame’s fist cracked the floor and charged with a punch. Flame grabbed his fist and threw him to the side, causing him to stumble for a couples before regaining himself.
Hand to hand wasn’t working. Tai began to wish he had TK’s and Kari’s training, but was yanked out of it as Flame raised its arms threw a Terra Force fireball. Rather than dodging, Tai leapt up and began spinning. “Terra Force!” His tornado struck the fireball and pushed it back towards Flame, but Flame was already moving to the left and easily avoided it.
Flame charged at Tai and Tai met with it with his own. As Flame delivered a punch, Tai ducked and punched at Flame’s stomach, but Flame’s knee shot up and hit him in the jaw. The force of the blow sent him on to his back but he sprung back up.
<How can I beat this thing? It was programmed with all of my battle experience and apparently the knowledge on how to counter my moves.> Flame clearly had the advantage, but Tai refused to believe he could be completely outdone by a robot. There had to be something he had that a robot couldn’t be programmed with. <I can’t lose to- that’s it!! Robots can only do as their programmed! They aren’t capable of caring about their survival! According to Sora, will alone is what allowed the others to beat Takeru and Hikari!> He looked at Flame. <But even if I care, it won’t matter if I can’t land a hit. I need one hit. One I’ll put everything into. But how? That thing knows all my moves.> The answer slapped him in the face. <I’ll just have to do something I haven’t even considered before! Robots can be smart, but there’s no replacement for experience and the ability to improvise!> A plan came to him. An insane one, but there was no way this hunk of junk could be ready for it.
He thought about Kari. Despite all of her training, she still needed Tai. If something happened to him, she’d be inconsolable. And TK. He was working through so much and depending on Kari to help him pull through. If she got depressed, he’d have that much harder of a time handling his problems. <For them. This blow is for them.>
He charged at Flame with a punch from his right and Flame charged intending to meet the punch with its own again. As soon as they reached each other, Tai lowered his fist and swung his left, thinking about everyone he couldn’t afford to leave. He barely felt Flame’s fist go right through his chest while he swung his left at Flame’s head. With a loud crunch, Flame’s head flew off as Tai found himself human again.
<I did it!> he realized, exhausted as Flame’s headless form slumped over, <I beat that stupid robot! I just Mikain gets shut down before he can make more!>

Matt’s arms screamed out in pain as he desperately pushed his beamsword against both of Light’s, but it was getting harder by the second. It wouldn’t be long before he made one slip up and lost grip of his sword, allowing Light to end the match.
He had to get out now. But how? He considered reverting back to normal, but decided against it. Light was aiming at his chest. If he went back to normal, the blades would instead reach his neck. A probably less painful way to die, but that wasn’t good enough. Could he shoot it? No. That would require holding Light back with just one hand when he was barely managing with both.
He had an idea. It was dangerous, but it could potentially end this match instantly. Mentally bracing himself, he switched off the sword. Light jumped back instantly, but Matt immediately turned it back on. Unfortunately, because he was pushing back, he stumbled forward and as a result, his sword was lower than it was before, causing him to just miss. But at least he was out of that trap.
Matt looked around and quickly saw where his other beamsword landed. Light charged with another double swing, seemingly aware that Matt didn’t have enough strength left in his arms to meet the charge head on again. He dove towards the remaining beamsword, vowing that when this ended, he would get TK to teach him to be better with a single sword.
Light lunged with a swing from its left at Matt’s upper chest. He moved his left sword and blocked while swinging his right at Light’s midsection. Light flicked its right and intercepted while stabbing its left at Matt’s head. Matt flipped back as the right beamsword was swung down and pointed left arm at his opponent.
“Purifying Light!” Matt fired as quickly as he could, but firing while still holding his sword wasn’t quite as easy and Light was more than quick enough to deflect them while rushing in.
As soon as Light got close enough, Matt swung his right sword, but Light bolted left and began shooting as he tried to intercept with his left. He attempted his change his failed attack into a defence, but was too slow and three lasers entered his arm, leaving an extreme pain. He tried to ignore it and defend, but even though his right was fast enough, he could barely move his left. And with only one arm, moving in while defending was impossible. Even holding his ground seemed unlikely as he found himself backing away.
Light stopped firing and charged with both swords up. Matt dropped his left, since he’d be more likely to cut his leg off than injure Flame abd stepped back as he brought up his right, hoping that moving backward would reduce the force of the blow, but only Light’s left came down striking hard enough to make Matt spin and then he felt the searing heat of Light’s right slash along his back, his armour barely keeping it from being serious.
He fell to his knees and spun to swing at Light’s legs, but Light leapt up and came down with a stab from its right sheathing its left. He rolled away, his back crying out in protest, but Light began firing. Matt spun back up, but a bolt entered his right knee, sending him down again.
He didn’t have to try to know his injury wouldn’t let him stand. He sighed. He lost and the imitation won. It wasn’t even close. No matter what Light chose now, there was no way to defend against without moving. <Poor TK. He’ll lose another family member.>
He fought the feelings of hopelessness. He couldn’t die! He wasn’t afraid of dying, no, that was one of the few good results of Mikain’s training, but forcing TK to endure another loss as he was still trying to get over his mother? He couldn’t allow that. <I’m supposed to make things easier for him, not harder!!>
No, he would find a way through this. He would find a way and even if it’s just learning how to better use one sword, he make sure to spend more time with TK. Lots more
But that was later. Winning this fight had to happen now. And that meant something far better than his method for escaping the last bad spot Light put him in. Or maybe not.
It was a long shot, but this time he was sure it would work. As expected, Light and leapt up and was swinging both beamswords down. That was much more difficult to defend against from his position than the lasers, but defence wasn’t the idea.
He held his sword up to block the swing. As Light’s swords reach it, however, he switched it off and then back on immediately. With Light just landing, it couldn’t do anything as his beamsword entered its face, but the next thing Matt felt was Light’s weapons cutting through his chest, and then his Form disintegrating, and being ejected away from Light’s weapons while reverting so they wouldn’t cut his human form too.
He slowly got up and saw that Light was slumped over. He crept up and saw a large cut going from the back of Light’s head all the way to the stomach. A smile slowly formed. <I did it! I won!>
Now all he had to do was wait and hope no more nasty surprises came. At least until his Form healed.

Kari wasted no time transforming into Angewomon. She felt herself shaking slightly at the thought of fighting Lector alone as she flew towards the ceiling, but reminded herself that she could fly and he couldn’t. That gave her one advantage. Another came from long range attacks while he could only fight close up. With those two advantages, there was no reason why she’d lose.
Lector whipped out his sword and, with blinding speed, he back flipped into the wall behind him and then lunged forward with his weapon pulled back. <What speed!> She flew back out of his range and gathered up her own attack, wishing she’d had the sense to start doing so earlier.
“Heaven’s Charge!” Her aim was perfect, but impossibly, Lector was twisting as he landed with a fancy leap, he evaded the attack. He hurled his sword at her and she tried to swerve left, but was still grazed on the cheek as the blade wedged itself in the ceiling.
So much for her two advantages!
She looked at the sword and saw that it had no signs of falling out. Good. Removing it would give Lector a real disadvantage. She prepared another Heaven’s Charge to destroy it, but as soon as she got her arms out, she felt both of Lector’s feet slam down on her back and then she crashed into the floor.
She rolled over and saw Lector yanking his blade from the ceiling and then diving down with it raised. Planting her hands on the floor, she pushed to the right and managed a roll with her wings getting in the way and landing on her knees allowing herself to spin back to her feet.
Kari could’ve sworn she felt a slight tremor as Lector crashed down feet first where she was moments ago. As soon as he landed, he did a spin with his sword out. Kari leaned back, but felt it leave a gash in her helmet. Lector then spun the other way with a step forward, forcing Kari to leap back as the blade passed millimetres away from her eyes. Lector continued his spin but as he was turning to face her again, she saw his weapon pulled back. She twisted left, his stab missing only by a hair.
Kari tried to deliver a punch to Lector’s face since she had no attacks she could fire off at this range quickly enough, but she only managed to pull her fist back before Lector’s free hand slammed into her stomach, lifting her into the air and not landing until her back met the wall.
Shaking her head to clear away the daze, she flew back up, this time ready for Lector’s agility. Lector dove over to one of the terminals and threw a fast kick into it. Kari jolted right as it shot by like a bullet and then Lector appeared in front of her with his sword aimed at her neck. What was with this monster? He swung and she ducked it, but his knee shot up slammed into her face, causing her to hit ceiling and then the floor.
She painfully rolled to the left and stood as Lector landed some distance in front. He charged with his sword pulled back. Kari pointed two fingers on her left hand at him and pulled her right back. “Celestial Arrow!”
Lector flicked his blade around deflecting the arrows. <They should’ve pierced it! What’s it made of?!> she wondered as she dove right, preparing her next move. “Heaven’s Charge!” Without even stopping, Lector sprung over her beam and sailed right towards her.
With an annoyed sigh, she dove underneath him fired a few more Celestial Arrows as Lector landed, but right as his feet touched the ground, he spun and cut them down, then with a second spin, he hurled his sword at her again. She dove left as it whizzed by, but Lector appeared in front of her and delivered a blow to her chest, sending her flying across the room and crashing into a terminal. It hurt more than hitting a wall.
She stood back up, but almost fell back down. Not just because of how weak she felt, but from the hopelessness of the situation. She wasn’t just losing to Lector, she was his punching bag. He kept pressing one attack after another without leaving one opening. There just didn’t seem to be any way to get around his strategy. <But if I don’t win, then if TK will have to fight him along with Mikain! He can’t fight both! I have to win this!>
Lector retrieved his sword and leapt up to the ceiling. He pushed his feet into it and launched himself towards Kari. “Heaven’s Charge!” No way he could dodge this. He didn’t in fact. Instead, he swung his sword through it which caused it to dissipate. <Oh come on! That shouldn’t be possible!>
He landed in front of her and she started to leap back to dodge the inevitable sword swing, but instead he lunged forward and body slammed her. She hit another terminal, but went through it and hit the wall with the monitor driving itself into her back. She cried out and then forced herself to stand hoping there wasn’t any glass wedged in.
Lector threw his sword like a spear and Kari tried to dodge, but her back rejected the fast movement and his sword went straight through her chest. The next thing she knew, she was human again and flying away from where the sword was.
<How could I lose so easily? Can he even be beaten?> She transformed into Darkmon and hoped it would last her until some kind of tremendous miracle came, because if it didn’t, then Mikain’s victory was guaranteed.

TK stayed back, waiting for Mikain to make the first move. If this guy really was stronger than Lector, a hasty attack would bring this fight to a very quick end.
Mikain pointed his sword at TK and then pointed it up. He then let go but grabbed it again as the hilt passed by his hand, grabbing it just above it. He then twisted his hand so he was holding the weapon horizontally. <He’s holding it by the blade! Why’s he doing that?!> He had to be up to something, but with Mikain, there was simply no way to see through the layers of his plans. TK would simply have to figure it out before whatever Mikain was planning kicked in.
After waiting a few moments, he saw that Mikain had no intention of attacking. He charged, not wanting it to become a standoff, and aimed a swing with his staff at Mikain’s right hip, but as he reached his target, he spun in the opposite direction as Mikain moved his sword to block and used an overhead swing at Mikain’s head on the right side. Unfortunately, Mikain moved his weapon quickly enough to block.
TK’s staff bounced off and before he could recover, Mikain’s other hand punched him in the stomach, hitting like a cannon ball and sending him into the wall. <He is stronger,> TK realized as he stood back up, <but how could he block that fast?>
Maybe he just needed to redirect his attacks. He charged at Mikain again, pulling his staff back like a spear and aimed low. As he got within range, he moved the spear upwards over the hilt, just high enough to prevent the hilt from being able to block. Mikain twisted his wrist and somehow moved the sword quickly enough to deflect the blow. Mikain then followed through with another punch, knocking TK back again.
<Okay. I can’t break through that defence,> TK concluded, <Somehow he’s matching my speed, but luckily I’ve got another advantage.> He gripped the centre of his staff. Since the staff equally effective with both ends, he easily attack from any angle and do it faster than a sword. Whatever Mikain was up to, this would keep him from pulling it off.
Putting his other hand on the back of the staff, TK charged as if it were a lance. Mikain blocked it, but TK flipped the staff around, bringing the previous back end down on Mikain’s shoulder. However, Mikain was still fast enough to block, but TK simply gripped his other end of his staff and flipped it around again, the momentum of the deflection speeding it up, and jabbed at Mikain’s stomach. Mikain was still fast enough, though this time it was the hilt that blocked the swing. Grabbing the back again, TK spun and ducked, swinging at Mikain’s legs, but Mikain did a quick hop over it. Grabbing the centre, TK stood, still in a spin, and swung at Mikain’s back, but Mikain still managed to move the blade fast enough to deflect it. He then delivered a fast kick into TK’s stomach again, sending him flying back.
TK lunged in and jabbed at Mikain’s chest. Mikain blocked it, but TK gripped the other end of the staff and spun for a swing at Mikain’s shoulder. Mikain blocked it, but TK gripped the opposite end again and tried to force it into Mikain’s stomach, but Mikain blocked with the sword again, this time with the hilt. Using the previous end, TK took a swing at Mikain’s legs. Mikain jumped it and switching ends again, TK swung at his back, but he blocked it again and kicked TK in the stomach again, sending him back.
How was this even possible? Even considering Mikain’s strength, the weight of the blade verses the hilt shouldn’t have allowed such quick swings. Unbalanced weight would either slow make them slower or have them overshoot.
The answer hit like a ton of bricks. <He’s holding it above the hilt! The weight’s been evened out! Why didn’t I realize this?!> The answer was obvious. Battling the overpowered Viralmon, trying to catch Trev, mentally duelling Takeru, all these trying experiences have left him focusing on the big tricks. <I was expecting someone as devious as Mikain to try something complex, not something so simple. So obvious.> He looked at his enemy who stared impassively back at him, still as a statue. <But he knew that, didn’t he? He knew I’d be ready for something big and end up overlooking the simple. He knew I’d be ready for something like his stunt with the Virus Queen where it was practically win-win for him. He knew that sometimes the best place to hide something is in plain view.>
With the realization of Mikain’s strategy, the solution became apparent. The solution was even simpler and perfect for his Angemon Form. Pure power.
TK rushed with an overhead swing. Mikain moved his sword up and blocked. TK’s weapon bounced off, but his swung down again. And again. He kept swinging, knowing that either Mikain would give in or lose his thumb.
Mikain chose the former and dropped the sword. As he bent over, TK leapt back, and then Mikain’s head jetted forward with a viscous head butt that would’ve hit had TK delayed even a fraction of a second.
Mikain picked the sword up and faced TK. “Very good,” he said, “I like to set up a ‘wall’ of sorts for my opponent to break down before I really begin to fight. If they can’t get through that little trick, then they aren’t worth my time. You’re the second one to do it, Lector being the first.” Mikain pulled the sword back and held out his other hand. “Now I can fight you seriously.”
Mikain leapt at TK with a spin, swinging his sword. TK planted his staff into the ground and used it to vault over Mikain while preparing his Hand of Fate. Now that Mikain was on the offensive, it would be possible to get this attack set up. “Hand of Fate!”
Despite the fact that they weren’t too far apart, Mikain managed to back flip over the beam. “Hand of Fate!” There. The beam was too big to just twist around, so Mikain had no hope of dodging.
He didn’t need to. He spun and swung his sword down, separating the beam and causing the halves to go around him. <That shouldn’t be possible!> TK thought as he rolled left to avoid the landing.
Mikain threw the sword like a spear as soon as he touched the ground and faced TK. TK sidestepped, but Mikain had already begun his attack, driving an open-palm blow at TK’s face. He moved his staff up and blocked it, still being pushed back from the impact. <That’s the manoeuvre I pull with my Star Toss! Only more dangerous due to the sword!>
Though Mikain’s blow was deflected by the staff, he tried another. TK blocked it again, but Mikain took another shot. What was he doing? Didn’t he realize how useless his attacks were?
A small crack was heard. <No! He can’t be!> TK looked at the centre of the staff behind where Mikain was hitting. A small crack that was growing with each hit. <He’s targeting my weapon! He knows I can’t block his sword without it!>
He had to get out of this now before- too late. The staff split in half with Mikain’s final blow. TK tried to refocus himself on the fight so he could get out of Mikain’s little trap, but too late again. With two fingers extended, Mikain performed a lightning quick throat jab and the next thing TK new, he couldn’t breath, and then he was human again.
He instinctively switched to Shadowmon and Mikain dove towards his sword and retrieved it.
<Now what?> TK wondered. As Lector’s proven in the past, the speed advantage won’t amount to much and there was no way of matching Mikain’s strength without Angemon. <Get by Lector soon, Kari. I can’t win this alone.>
***
“Ice Dagger!” Kari hoped his desperate attack would at least slow down Lector’s charge, but all he did was swing his left arm batting them away while gripping the sword with his right.
He passed by a terminal and then spun, kicking the computer which sent it rocketing towards Kari. She dove left, but he simply altered his angle and pursued. She clenched her fists and turned yellow. “Thunder Burst!” She was positive her attack was timed perfectly, but Lector suddenly sprung backwards as if he had hit a magnetic field, dodging the attack.
She bit back a frustrated moan. Superhuman strength, quick on his feet, reflexes that would make a cat sick with envy, and able to stop on a dime? That just wasn’t fair! How could anyone beat this guy? Even Trev wasn’t this tough!
Once Lector landed, he sprung towards her again. “Fire Whip!” Kari wasn’t confident that Fire Whip would do the job, but what other options did she have? Lector intercepted the whip with his sword. As it wrapped around the blade, he yanked the whip out of Kari’s hands and it disappeared. Before she could do anything more, Lector landed in front of her and dashed forward, body-checking her. She felt her back hit the floor bouncing her back up and then she crashed into the wall.
Shakily, she stood back up, but saw that Lector was already upon her, coming down with a swing. She impulsively leapt up as he swung and twisted around the blade, but his other arm shot up, and batted her across the room. She crashed into one of the few remaining terminals and lay for a couple seconds, trying to work out what just happened.
Lector appeared above her with his sword raised and pointed down. An idea came. “Thunder Burst!” There! No way he could possibly dodge now! Lector’s arms shot down as he threw his sword at her. The Thunder Burst wrapped around it and Kari rolled on to her right in a panic. She heard the blade insert itself right next to her back and then she felt her Thunder Burst and she was blasted a few feet away.
<He has a counter for everything!> she realized as she struggled to stand, <What kind of training did he get.> She finally straightened herself, but noted that it took a couple seconds. More seconds than Lector would give her when attacking.
She faced him and saw him pulling the sword out of the floor. Throwing at that range must have really wedged it in. Well, time to take advantage of that little delay. “Fire Whip!” Lector looked at her and finished yanking his weapon out with a spin. Her whip wrapped around it and he yanked it towards him, taking Kari with it. He then pulled a fast kick that impacted with Kari’s face, sending her across the room.
Spitting out some blood, Kari slowly rose, but saw Lector charge. She started to leap away, but almost collapsed. She still needed a bit more time to regain herself. Lector reached her and swung down. Kari performed the only attack she could at this range. “Shadow Strike!” As the small spikes grew out of her hands, she moved them up to block Lector’s swing.
Lector’s sword struck but with a spray of sparks, the sword bounced off! It took Kari a moment to realize what had just happened. <Shadow Strike blocked Lector’s strength! I barely even felt the impact! I had no idea it was so strong!> A smile grew on her lips. She had a fighting chance now!
She faced Lector, now feeling ready, but saw that he was over by the only terminal that was still standing. He kicked towards her and she dove under, getting sick of dodging everything that wasn’t nailed down. “Shadow Strike!” She lunged at him, with both spikes out. Lector snorted and spun, bringing his sword down on her. She crossed the spikes together and blocked the swing, but this time Lector didn’t bounce back, and Kari felt herself starting to be pushed.
Kari pushed back, not wanting to give Lector a chance to get around her attack, but then noticed a small line appearing on each of them. It got bigger. Her heart sank. The lines were cracks. Lector was breaking through. He was still stronger and he knew it.
Okay, plan B. Kari pulled her hands away with a spin and Lector stumbled forward due to his own momentum. She thrust the spikes at his back as he passed, but his leg shot out kicked her in the chest and sent across the room again.
She tried to stand, but fell back to her knees. She couldn’t do it. She sighed. Unless a miracle happened within the next few seconds, Lector would kill her. <I’m sorry TK. I failed you.>
Nothing happened. What was going on? She looked at him and it seemed as if he were listening to something. He glared at her. “Something more important just came up, so I don’t time to kill you. Consider yourself lucky because next time I will.”
Kari almost passed out right there and didn’t even pay attention to where Lector had gone to. He was gone! He left and she was still alive! A miracle did occur! She reverted back to normal. <Be safe TK. My Darkmon’s injuries aren’t serious, so I’ll be there to help you soon.>
***
“Star Toss!” Best not to give Mikain time to come up with another plan. TK hoped he could overwhelm with his Form’s superior speed, but memories of his fight with Lector shot it down. Somehow, Mikain had to be outfought.
Mikain flicked his sword around, deflecting the stars and moved towards TK with a swing. TK dove left, but Mikain performed a quick spin, swing at TK’s back. TK saw that couldn’t move fast enough to dodge, so he spun and intercepted with his sword. The blades hit, but surprisingly, Mikain’s bounced off. <What?! Why did he do such a weak swing?! He could use more power than that and still have no excess movements!>
Mikain immediately attacked with a stab at TK’s chest, but TK spun around it and swung down on Mikain’s weapon. If he was using less power, TK had to take advantage of it. When TK’s sword hit Mikain’s, Mikain’s was pushed down while TK spun again, ending with a stab at Mikain’s head. Mikain spun around the attack and swung at TK’s back. TK ducked and stabbed at Mikain’s sword arm as his spin continued. Mikain moved his arm up out of the stab’s reach and then lowered it, so the swing would reach TK’s midsections. Seeing that he couldn’t duck or jump it, TK met it with his sword. This time, however, when the two blades hit, TK was pushed into the air and landed on his feet in front of the door he came in through.
Now he understood why Mikain was using such little power. Even without wasted movements, the stronger the swing, the longer it took to recover from it. By keeping his power minimized, Mikain would react a little faster than normal, but the speed difference was too small for TK to notice, so Mikain could easily use the small ones to set up a big one and TK had no way of knowing when they’d come. <I could really use Angemon’s strength right about now. Then at least I‘d be able to match the big ones.
But that was his plan, wasn‘t it? To get rid of my Angemon Form first thing so I wouldn‘t be able defend.> Well, wishing wasn’t going to help. TK’d simply have to find another way to take down this monster.
Mikain charged with another swing. TK sidestepped to the right and swung at Mikain’s neck, but Mikain stopped and leaned back, so TK’s attack went overtop. Mikain’s right foot shot out at TK’s foot as he straightened back up. TK performed a quick hop over the kick, but Mikain used the time it took to swing his sword at TK’s left. TK blocked with his sword, but once again was sent flying across the room from the impact. TK landed on his feet again, but had to spend a couple seconds resisting the remaining momentum from the blow.
Recovered, he faced Mikain again, but saw him rushing in with another swing. <He’s fast!> TK thought as he dove to the right, but immediately saw that it wasn’t fast enough. Mikain had leapt up and was coming down with a swing that would take a chunk off TK’s Form. <This better work!> “Mirror Veil Jitsu!” As soon as the barrier formed, Mikain’s sword came down, but because of the angle TK’s dive put him at, the blade didn’t make a solid impact. Rather, the side of it hit and only hard enough to push him away.
TK realized he was holding his breath and let it out, but as Mikain passed, his foot shot out and broke through the shield without even slowing down and drove into TK’s stomach, launching TK into the wall that was a fair distance behind him.
TK stood back up, shaking the dizziness off. He turned his attention back to Mikain, who was coming in with another jumping attack. Well, this time TK was ready. He did a small hop towards Mikain, planted his sword in the ground, and applied leverage to vault to Mikain’s height with an overhead swing. Mikain gave him an even look and moved his sword to block as TK swung down. Their swords met, but TK pushed down and tilted forwards, flinging himself over Mikain’s head. TK’s feet touched the far wall and he sprung himself off of it towards Mikain as he landed. TK pulled his sword back and once he got in range, he lashed it out for a stab, but Mikain whipped around much faster than expected and batted TK’s weapon away with his own blade, and then his other palm shot out, catching TK in the chin, and sending him back into the wall he sprung from.
<So much for that idea. The guy has a counter for everything I do.> He took a deep breath and faced Mikain again, but Mikain wasn’t moving. He was simply standing with his sword pulled back and his other hand out front. TK’s eyes widened and he hurried into the same pose.
This was bad. Very bad. Mikain had just set up a standoff. Could he possibly know how bad TK fairs at them. No, of course not. It’s a typical strategy from one of the most patient men alive. <I couldn’t even beat Kari at a standoff. What chance do I have against Mikain?>
Forget it! Worrying about these things would only distract! TK focused on Mikain. Nothing but winning this standoff mattered now. If Mikain made the mistake, TK could end the fight right now. All he had to do was outlast. <Fat chance…STOP IT!!>
The nose itch that haunted his practice attempts against Kari returned. Why did that stupid itch have to show up every time?! A similar itch appeared on his hand gripping the sword. Then an even stronger one on his left eye; enough to almost make him blink. Great the nose itch is back with reinforcements! Uh oh. Another one on, no, inside his nose. One that threatened a sneeze! Was his body trying get him killed?
<I can’t do this! I can’t beat Mikain at this! I have to get out of it! Maybe I should just use something I can recover from before he gets close enough!> There was an idea. “Star Toss!” While throwing the shurikens, he dove to the left, but Mikain immediately dove the same way, but also forward, and suddenly, he was rushing in with a swing. Maybe this idea wasn’t so great after all.
TK raised his sword in defence, seeing that he wouldn’t be able to dodge fast enough, but Mikain swung his down on the side of TK’s knocking it aside and then he whipped the blade back up with a swing aimed for TK’s neck. TK leaned back to dodge, but Mikain delivered a punch towards his stomach. TK managed to twist himself left while trying to straighten and swung his sword at Mikain’s neck, but the swing had barely started when Mikain kicked his right leg, and because TK was still trying to straighten himself, he fell off balance and landed on his back, dropping his sword.
Mikain drove his sword down on TK’s chest, but TK quickly rolled left, but Mikain put his left foot in the way and stabbed again. TK tried rolling right, but Mikain did a quick hop and landed with his right foot in the way and then did another stab. With a frustrated grunt, TK rolled left again, but Mikain got in the way again and attempted another stab.
<Okay. This trick saved me once before, so maybe it’ll work second time.> TK rolled right. “Mirror Veil Jitsu!” Right as the barrier formed, Mikain’s right foot blocked the roll and he stabbed down, but TK managed to put himself at a slanted angle. The sword struck the shield, but once again it failed to deliver a solid impact so it slid off. Mikain seemed to have been thrown off balance for a couple seconds, so pulled himself out from underneath him and dove towards his sword, grabbing it as he stood.
TK immediately faced Mikain with his sword held defensively and blocked the swift swing of Mikain’s blade, but it still sent him flying across the room. Shrugging it off, TK stood again and faced his enemy, but Mikain was once again still in an attack pose. TK hurried into his as his heart sunk.
Another standoff. Mikain was clearly trying to get TK into that losing situation again, and TK knew that his Mirror Veil trick wouldn’t work a third time. He needed a way out of this, but his last idea backfired miserably. <I wish I still had Angemon. Then I could sacrifice this Form for a surprise attack- wait a minute! I don’t think I need a second Form for this!>
When a Form “died”, it took roughly one second to become human again. One second that TK could use. If he angled this just right, he could win. Unfortunately, if he made even the slightest mistake, Mikain would win for sure. <But if I don’t do this, Mikain will kill me anyhow, it’ll just take him longer. I have to do it.>
He took a deep breath. It was do or die. Within the next few seconds, this fight will end.
TK charged forward, holding his weapon back to slice through Mikain’s midsection. Mikain met his charge with his sword his similarly, but at angle that would allow it to deflect TK’s. Perfect. They reach each other and Mikain swung, but TK raised his weapon as he felt Mikain’s tear through his chest. <NOW!!> The pain blinding, TK swung.
The pain gone, TK found himself on his knees and human again. <Did I do it?!> Only one way to find out. He stood up and turned around. Mikain was still standing but with his back facing TK. At first he made no movements. <What’s going on?! This isn’t like Mikain at all! Did I get him or what?!> Suddenly, Mikain’s head fell off and his body slumped over.
TK took a few moments to figure out what just happened. <I did do it. I won. Mikain’s dead! I WON!!> TK wanted to cheer, but suddenly felt all his strength leave him and he collapsed. He’d have to rest a bit now, but there was no rush. Mikain was gone. <We won at last.>
***
“I’m sick of waiting,” Sora said, “I’m going back in.” She refused to spend anymore time hiding from an oversized tin can while TK and Kari continued fighting. She did promise to protect them and no stupid robot was going to make her break it!
“Yeah,” Max agreed, “If that thing’s still there, then it’s not going anywhere.”
“I’ll rush us through,” Jane said, “Knowing TK, Kari, and Matt, there’ll be a nice trail of damage for us to follow.”
The three re-entered Matrix and saw that this time the entrance was empty. Jane transformed into Quickmon. “Let’s do this before that thing comes back.” Sora and Max climbed on and next thing she knew, everything was a blur. How Jane didn’t crash into anything was a mystery.
Jane suddenly stopped and Sora saw Matt sitting on the ground with what looked like a messed up copy of his Form. “What happened?” she asked, leaping off Jane’s back.
Matt looked at her. “Not much,” he answered, “Just a robot that superior to my Form in just about every way. I’m just waiting for mine to heal enough so I can help TK and Kari.”
“Hop on,” Jane said, “I’ll get us there. Just point in the direction they took.” Matt did and almost immediately Tai was found in a similar situation, saying that Trev seemed to have broken him out to cause problems for Mikain. Now the four were moving again, but Jane’s back was probably getting sore.
Jane stopped again and this time it was Kari. Tai immediately leapt off, ran over to her, and helped her stand. “What happened?!” he demanded.
“Calm down,” Kari said, “It’s just my Forms that’re messed up. I got into a fight with Lector. I couldn’t beat him, but more something important to him came up and he left. I’m just letting my Form heal enough so I’ll be able to help TK beat Mikain.
“Mikain?” Tai ‘s eyes widened. “He’s fighting Mikain?! Is he nuts?!”
“What’s the big deal?” Max asked, “He’s just some crime boss who lets his lackeys do all the work for him.”
“He’s stronger than Lector!” Tai answered, “I fought him and couldn’t even touch him!”
“Then let’s go!” Matt snapped, “I’m not letting my little brother fight that kind of monster alone!” Sora was about to agree when Kari interrupted.
“Don’t get involved unless you have a Form that can fight at its best!” she snapped, “If you don’t, then you’ll just be forcing TK to protect you which will just make things worse! My Darkmon will be ready soon enough and I’m sure TK can hold till then. He has a sword, so Mikain will have to be more careful with him than Lector was with me!” Her voice lowered. “TK’s fine. I’d know it if something happened to him. I‘d feel it.”
“Let’s just get over there,” Sora said, “Max, Jane, and I have recovered from our battles.”
Jane, amazingly enough, was able to rush the five through the doorway Kari pointed them to and were almost immediately in an empty room when Jane stopped. Sora looked around and saw TK lying on the ground, but still breathing and he didn’t look injured. Kari and Matt leapt off and ran over to him. Kari cradled him on her lap looking relieved. Matt stood next to her looking the same way.
“Okay, everybody off,” Jane said, “My poor back can’t take much more.” Sora and Tai got off and Tai’s eyes widened as he looked in the opposite direction TK was. Then his jaw dropped. Sora looked and couldn’t believe what she saw.
It was Mikain, but his head wasn’t attached to his body. “I can’t believe it,” Tai said, “TK won. I didn’t think Mikain was beatable one on one. He did it.”

Afterword: I did not expect the fight to be this long. For some reason, when I wrote it, everything started coming out better than usual. I’m not sure what came over me, but I really hope I can do it again in all my future fight scenes. _________________ Red Green's words of wisdom:

Foreword: I can’t believe it. I’m done at last. Near the end I had to fight to keep myself interested in this, but I finally pulled it off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kari sighed happily as she snuggled up to TK and closed her eyes. TK wrapped his arms around her and practically pulled her onto his lap. Being at Lector’s mercy told her one thing: either one of them could be killed with the other forced to go on. Had Lector not been distracted by something else, TK would be inconsolable, and had the gamble that, according to him, beat Mikain failed, then she’d be just as miserable. <We were saved by pure luck. I have to make sure that if something happens to me, he’ll at least have enough memories to give him strength.>
They were now at Yamaki’s having a small celebration over their victory. With Mikain gone, the Warzone could finally heal, though it would take years for any difference to be noticed.
It wasn’t a complete victory, however. Lector was still out there, but Kari knew that even though she couldn’t beat him alone, she and TK together could handle him. There was still the mystery third party that Trev was working for, but with Mikain out of the way, they could be focused on, and since they didn’t try anything too big, they were either afraid of Mikain, or not ready. Either way, it was a good time to strike at them. Not one file could be found in Mikain’s tower; it was as if he had a special way to hide them all at once which he probably did the before fight, but it wasn’t like he was still alive use them and Yamaki’s team had full run of the fortress. Accessing them, and Matrix for that matter, was going to be very hard for Mikain’s lackeys.
“So what are we going to do now?” Jane asked across from Kari, “Mikain’s gone.”
“Well,” Matt said, on the other side of TK, “TK’s going to teach me how to be better with one sword.”
“That won’t take long,” TK said, “It’s easier keep total control over one weapon than two.”
“I don’t know,” Matt said, “I’m real accustomed to two. It may take longer than you think.” Kari caught the hidden meaning. He mentioned to her that he was aiming to spend a lot more time with TK than he had been in the past but not to tell him. Matt wanted it to be a surprise.
“There’s still Trev,” TK said, “I have to get him. He’s done far too much to get away with it, and we have no idea what this Destral guy is like.”
“We’ll flatten ‘em,” Max said from Jane’s left with a lampshade over his head. When asked why, he said Jane wouldn’t let him wear a toga.
“We also have to make sure the Viralmon aren’t being produced,” Tai said, “We don’t know how long the one TK and Kari killed was around and I never want to see them in that condition again.” The others agreed.
“When I was in Matrix,” Sora said, “Some strange flying robot attacked me and left when I almost hit it. I really don’t think it was a guard: it was alone but not nearly strong enough to warrant it like the big one was. There was something familiar about it. I want to learn what it was.”
“Then Max and I will be helping her,” Jane said, “We’ve pretty much become our own team by now.”
“Good to know you aren’t all becoming complacent over your victory,” Yamaki said walking in. It was hard to tell, but he seemed happier than he was when he learnt of Mikain’s death.
“What’s up?” Tai asked.
“Great news. Someone, no idea who, sent me a lot of links leading to all of Mikain’s files and the encryption keys to access them.” Kari felt her jaw drop. Who on Earth was able to pull that off? “We now have proof of everything we’ve suspected Mikain being guilty of and even some things we didn‘t. I’ve already sent the information to the proper authorities, but we can safely say that Mikain’s empire is finished.”
***
Trev grinned as he sent all the information needed to access Mikain’s hidden files to Yamaki. Oh how he looked forward to this day when he could finally crush everything that oaf had achieved. How satisfying. His only regret was that he couldn’t see Mikain’s face when he found out that he was busted.
Okay, time to go. He had found a rather insignificant building to hide in in Matrix, and the inside was pitch black except for the computer he was using, but it wouldn’t be long before that indestructible guard robot known as Hunter would find him. Fortunately, his jet-bike was small, so there wasn’t a real risk of being seen.
The jet-bike he used was black and dark grey. It was shaped like a normal motorbike, only instead of wheels, it had metal half-spheres with thrusters on the bottom and one on the back to insure maximum speed, acceleration, and the ability to stay a few feet above ground, though his was modified for outright flight.
The wall behind him burst open and his heart jumped. Had Hunter found him? Jet-bikes were fast, but nothing escaped Hunter and Destral would never allow him to lead that monstrosity to them!
“You!” Lector shouted as Trev turned around. Lector wasn’t much better, but at least he could be outrun.
Trev leapt on to his bike, thankful he had the foresight to park it next to the computer. “Too late, tubby!” he shouted, “Everyone knows all of Mikain dirty little secrets! His empire is finished!”
He kicked the bike into full throttle and jetted by Lector. He turned to loop to the other side of the building when a sharp object shot right by where his head was a split second ago. <Geeze! What was that?!> He then remembered one of Lector’s favourite moves. <That’s right. His sword.> Forget looping around. Better to just get as far from Lector as he could.
***
Lector took a deep breath as Trev jetted off. Catching him wouldn’t change a thing, especially since on his way, Lector caught Hunter locked in battle with a swarm attack robots that weren’t built in Matrix. Hunter, of course, had no difficulties taking them down, but Destral knew full well that Hunter was invulnerable. There was another reason, and whatever Trev was doing couldn’t be it.
He shook his head. Destral was coming sooner than expected. First thing Lector had to do was figure out what Trev was up to. Then he had go and tell Lord Mikain everything about Trev, Destral, and most importantly, Lord Mikain’s amnesia.
***
Inside the main command fortress for Matrix, in the room where Mikain had his fight, one would find his headless form. But if that one remained, he or she would’ve seen something truly shocking.
Mikain got up! He walked over to his head, picked it up, and put it right back on. The cuts closed up as it reattached itself and within moments, there was no trace of a sword being anywhere near him.
“Well now,” he said, “Seems I underestimated him.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterword: Feels so good to have this done. Had some tough moments, mostly in the first five chapters, but it smoothed out after that. I hope that with my future ideas, I’ll be able to avoid such moments. _________________ Red Green's words of wisdom:

Sorry, but that was the idea. This is a trilogy which is basically one story broken up into three parts for whatever reason and the middle can't really be counted on to answer the questions it leaves. I'm already working on the final part, Hexa's Legacy, so you'll have your answers eventually. _________________ Red Green's words of wisdom:
