Suggestion: Member Of the Month Elections

Um, I've not seen any MotMs in REO, so I'm suggesting for it.

See, in a lot of other forums, they have this Member of the Month elections with lots of catagories, where members vote for other members for things like "Favorite Male/Female Member", "Favorite Artist, Writer", "Favorite Staff Member", etc.

Just um.. asking, can we have that here too? I can host the first one if you'd like.
Of course, if they're banned or already done here .. ^^;;

...erm, why would we need that? That would become a forum for popularity contests, and it could very well invite spammers. All the while remaining rather superfluous.

Besides, why make a discrete topic about it? One can generate opinions about some of the other members merely by observing his or her posting habits and activity in the community. And for some of the suggested categories, there may only be one or two members eligible, which would somewhat defeat the purpose of what you are proposing.

Um, it IS basically a popularity contest .. but well, there's no um .. *thinks* campaigning or something to gain votes.

And er, a lot of forums have Member Of The Month elections, and none of it get spammy. You can always get one of the staff to specially look over the elections.

But...why would we want to have a popularity contest? The whole basis of them is making the losers feel bad for not being popular enough, and inflating the egos of those on top.

We really do appreciate your suggestion. Such contests would probably be fine at a smaller forum, where its members know each other better. In this kind of forum however, there are just too many members, and it would be too easy for some to take offense if they were not chosen. We have a very peaceful community here, I would hate to disturb that balance. :)

Um.. there's the Pokemon Community, and its seriously HUGE. But they have Member Of The Month elections that are executed very well.
And well, ^__^ we can always rely on the staff here to take care of any issues of that.

Like, I thought that compared to the PokeCommunity, REO has the same potential but um .. its good in its own small way.
