Nethack. It takes a bit to figure out the controls, but it's pretty fun and there's all sorts of crazy stuff you can do.

Be aware that while this is a free game and doesn't need to be burned to a CD, it does include StarForce. (So you need a removal tool after deinstallation if you want to get rid of it)

I suggest KoL more than RS, though. Sure, there are limits to how many 'adventures' you can do in a day, but that's better than losing almost all of your items when you die on RS. -.-
