I just thought I'd mention that.

No, seriously though, this is a great, short little series (OVA I think). It's only six episodes, but what a six episodes it is! If you haven't caught it on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim (or a channel outside the US, though I don't know what else would show it outside Japan), it's about a kid names Naota (people keep calling him Ta-kun) who get's hit by a Vespa (don't worry. not dead), then hit in the head by the driver's guitar... which sounds like a chainsaw when she pulls the cord on it. After that, things occasionally come out of his head. Things like robots. Yeah. It's weird. I love it!

The action's pretty good, exagerrated and unreal in the way only anime does it, but the thing I like the most about it is the music, a soundtrack mostly done by the J-rock band, The Pillows. Seriously, they're right on par with L'Arc En Ciel. I've got soundtracks one and two, and I'm probably going to get soundtrack three as well. Every time I listen to it, I just want to start watching it all over, which doesn't happen with every soundtrack I have.

It's Six Episodes and two Manga, The second volume of which actually happens somewhere in between episodes 5 and 6. The only one who calls him Ta-kun is Mamimi, which is the pet-name she gave Naota's brother... also the reason why she yells, Takusa-senpai (I think that was his name) over and over again, and surprisingly, she uses the honorific that makes her seem inferor to him.

The vintage vespa in that show owned, even though I would never trust it. I rather get one of the newer models. And Haruko also doesn't actually use a Guitar, as people think she does. It's a bass, which is why she plucks it kinda reluctantly. Not really nitpicking, just pointing out... D:

The action isn't what's it though, it's the way the animation flows... Gainax has done some pretty good jobs from what I've seen and FLCL was no exception.

The Pillows=/=L'Arc En Ciel Infact, they are really horrible singers... but they experimented to make really beautiful guitar riffs... their songs present more of a real atmosphere than other bands.

To some people, FLCL makes no sense, just as Paranoia Agent didn't... but to me, they make perfect sense...

Oh, there's Manga too. I haven't seen it. Was it translated? I was sure I heard Haruko calling Naota Ta-kun at some time. And of course, Mamimi will call almost anything she likes Ta-kun, like the kitten and the hungry little machine that followed her in episode 5.

Okay, it's a bass (I remember her plucking it, now you mention it) but it's a bass guitar as opposed to a bass, uh, not-guitar, so calling it a guitar isn't wrong, even if it isn't completely accurate.

And the fact that these two anime make sense to you shows that there is something very, very wrong with your mind. Find a therapist, quick! Seriously though, neither of these were meant to make complete sense, although they still have a plot that can be followed if one pays attention. It's not like Excel Saga, which threw in a minimal plot in the last few episodes, or Cromartie High School, which is too random to fathom.

Ranma banner, yay!

I seriously think this is one of the best short animes I've ever seen! It had everything except Ninjas, Cowboys with guns, and Samurai swordplay! The music is very good! I've got the first two soundtracks, and am considering getting the third. Favorite song is Runners High, and I here volume three (of Music) has the original version, not the FLCL version. Heard it on Anime-radio, and loved it! So much better than four lines. And I had no idea Haru-san's giitaa was a bass. Cool bit of information!

The animation is simply beautiful, and I love the music. Yay for The Pillows! I wish they'd release something that would baby the story for me though.

Crap is it weird. <_<

Yeah, I watched episodes three and four last night, and Haruko does call Naota "Takkun" (both in English and Japanese). Strange that she kind of copies Mamimi, both in calling him Takkun and in calling the robot Canti. I wonder if there's a reason for it? But I'm not going to put too much thought into it. Thinking would probably ruin it.

I really love this show. Short and sweet. It's one of my favourites, and the animation is very well done. It took me several viewings of each episode to retain all of the information of the series. I have all the DVD's, and have a few bits of furi kuri memorabilia. The music is phenomenal, I love the Pillows. Although, they really aren't very good singers.

I disagree with the "very good singers" view. Sawao has a good range, and you should listen to their non-FLCL stuff in order to get a better feel from them.

But yeah, FLCL was great. If you don't understand it, just watch it again. It makes more sense when you do.

Actually, I dislike this series, a lot. The randomness gave me a headache, lol.

I've heard a lot of the Pillows' songs outside flcl. It depends on the song for voice quality; some of their songs Sawao sounds great, but some others he doesn't sound as good.

Oh well, to each their own. i personally think that Sawao Yamanaka is a great singer. The only time he really got out of tune was in one song on the first OST. I think it was Hybrid Rainbow... towards the end he has to say like ten words in a second, and just stretches them out. I need to get me some memorabilia and manga, cause' I just love this series. Has anyone else heard the dramatizations in the 2nd OST. They are priceless, especially Ohgiri.

Finally, someone made this!! Thank you, Zodiac!! :D Canti was my favorite character, even though he was as broken as a Dollar Tree product. Laughing They should've lengthened it to at least 12 episodes!! The music was awesome, enough said. Anyone know when it's coming back to Adult Swim yet? :/

It's currently airing on CN on Mondays at 12:30. In the same slot of time as Samurai Champloo, Inuyasha, and Evangelion are (they're on different days though).

Actually, Adult Swim's linup didn't include FLCL tonight. Unfortunately, I have to skip over the dramatizations on the King of Pirates soundtrack since I don't understand Japanese. I'm guessing that you do Mugen? And the only way I could agree to there being more episodes of it is if it didn't make the series feel cumbersome and inflated. Left as it is, it's short and sweet and leaves me feeling satisfied rather than begging for more. More FLCL means watching it over again, and that's something I'm more than happy to do. But, um, just curious. Is there a translated Manga of it?

The translations of the dramas are on Geneon Anime Music's website.

Yes, there is a translated manga. But in my opinion, it isn't very good. The ending is much different though, and you may like it.

Ah yes, FLCL. The music is God and the animation is beautiful. You can't be surprised it's random and crazy, Kazuya Tsurumaki created it... that poor guy stopped taking his meds and we got End of Eva and FLCL.

Yeah, unfortunately I guess they just had one run of FLCL again. It must've been replaced by Full Metal Alchemist again... sorry about the misinformation. It was true to my knowledge when I posted it. As for the translations; yeah, that's the web-site allright. But I do understand some of what they say too (Or at least can figure it out. They're so dramatic, those Seiyuus!). As for the songs; I study the lyrics, and figure out what they say that way. Hey, I learned how to say "I have no worry" that way so it's all good!
