Alright, so I picked up my copy of DoS, which was pretty ironic, because after a few days I found out they were going to discontinue it.

So, just like Resident Evil, I got hooked to the whole CV series. Just one thing bothers me...

WHY DO I KEEP GETTING HOOKED TO A GREAT SERIES SO LATE?!

I swear, just like RE, I got hooked on RE4. Ok, anyways enough of me ranting.

So, this is an all CV topic, not just DoS(Dawn of Sorrows).

So, whats your favorite soul in DoS? Bullet, Guardian, Enhance?
Favorite weapon, accessories?

Now, I'm hunting for Aria of Sorrows and the other CV games that I'm able to get my hands on.

My life sucks....

Haven't played more than the first level of DoS, but since you said this was an "all-Castlevania" topic...

My personal favorites are Simon's Quest, Castlevania III and I'm also fond of Dracula X and Rondo of Blood. Fabulous games. I own Symphony of the Night but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Castlevania is just such an amazing series. The music, level design, character design, everything - wonderful. My favorite character is Simon, of course, but Alucard and Richter aren't too far behind. XD I'm not impartial to any Belmont, really!

I've heard so much about Dracula X. Something about item crashes?
I'm new to the series... so yeah.

The series is soooo great.. I wish I was more mature when I was younger so I could've bought Castlevania games and Resident Evil. I was too scared...

Yes, it introduces item crashes but takes a few steps back from Super CV4's gameplay. No whip swinging or controlled jumps, but it's still fun.

The first one I played was Simon's Quest, and I forgot the order after that. The first one I ever bought was Symphony, though. I like the staged-based CVs more than the exploration ones.

I bought Circle of the Moon for 12 dollars today :D

whee castlevania thread

The first Castlevania game that I played was Circle of the Moon. Admittedly, I knew nothing of the series at the time, but when I played CoTM, it was insanely fun. I even went back to do each and every mode. =D

The next one was Concerto of Midnight Sun (Harmony of Dissonance). Truthfully, that one was sub-par, and I didn't care much for the story. This one was easily forgotten when I beat it.

Aria of Sorrow was next. I loved the music and the gameplay, and it was very fun to just keep going over replays of the game. Still a very great game to this day, but it is already hard to find an original cart of it. =(

Then was Dawn of Sorrow. This was also very good, although Julius Mode takes the spotlight for me. The music wasn't as good in this one as Aria, and something about this title seemed lacking compared to its predecessor. Still, fun game.

I still need to play Symphony of the Night. =/

Well... just say Areas, instead of levels. Since Metroid does the same thing.

I would say these are my favorite Castlevania's:

Castlevania (NES
Castlevania III (NES)
***ALL-TIME FAVED***Castlevania Vampire Kiss (SNES) aka Dracula X (This game should have been ported to GBA, it feels ahead of it's time...)
Castlevania 64 (N64) Both N64 games.
Castlevania: Symphany of the Night (PS1)
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonence spelling? (GBA)
***ALL-TIME FAVED***Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA)
***ALL-TIME FAVED***Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS)

Probably my favorite character would be Soma Cruz, a lot of his personallity reminds me of myself. I even cosplayed as him for Halloween, but obviously, nobody recognized me because my school sucks at life!

Anyone here ever cosplayed as a Castlevania character?

I heard DoS is the last CV game to have Soma Cruz as the main character. And theres another CV game coming out for the DS with the working title "Dracula Castlevania". I hope it takes place in 1999, with Julius Belmont.

You know that Gackt's band made a song based off of Castlevania? He also cosplayed as Alucard.

I've played a lot of Castlevania games. The one I really know is Aria of Sorrow. I so love that soul system. My commonly used Souls are Alure Une, Biphron, and Persephone.

Yeah, DoS is my first Castlevania game and now I'm hopelessly obsessed with it. Playing as Alucard rocks!
Hm, favorite souls......
Bullet: Flame Demon
I get al evil with it and think that I'm invinible. Razz
Guardian: Skull Archer
Gawd that's awesome. Especially when Soma starts to cry out.
Echant: Hm. It would have to be Ghost Dancer. Very helpful for getting rare stuff and souls.
Ability: Paranoia
The concept of entering mirrors to an alternate dimension is awesome.

Exactly the same for me. Circle of the Moon was also the first GBA game I bought, and I played that game like crazy. In fact, I still take it out and play through every once and awhile. The different modes were easily the best part of the game, as they would make some areas harder and others easier depending on which mode you were using. I also loved the card-power system, the number of combinations of abilities you could make with that system were staggering.

The only other Castlevania I've had a chance to play was Aria of Sorrow. Collecting souls is fun, but there so many near-pointless ones that I often get them mearly for completion's sake, not because I want to use them. And I still haven't beaten Boss Rush mode. Laughing Geeze, that thing's hard.

Boss Rush mode on DoS is unbelievably difficult as well. o.o;
I can't get past Abaddon.

Boss Rushes in the 2D games are a breeze compared to Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. :(

edit: Actually no, the 2D ones have always been rather easy for me.

Oh yeah, I just remembered something about Dawn of Sorrow: How absolutely uber the Ring of Chaos is. You pretty much can't run out of mana. I'm going to have to go through again some time using that item. joining that with the Iron Golem soul would probably make pretty much every boss incapable of defeating you, unless using Iron Golem kept you from damaging it. I managed to get through Boss Rush as fast as I needed to, but I don't think I've used any of the items. I don't think there really is an item better than Dracula's Tunic, and the RPG just doesn't have enough oomph to it. But getting through all those bosses fast is certainly fun to do. I just don't know if I'd have the skill to do it with Julius and Co. Fighting Abbadon was hard enough as it was, and I haven't finished the final boss yet.

Oh about Boss Rush mode, if Soma is under lvl 50, and you start a that file, he'll be level 50 for Boss Rush mode, same with Julius Mode.

Skull Archer is one of the deadliest Guardian souls, if used properly.
