Meta wrote: | Hmmm, where does the light come from? Well, not that every image needs a defined light source; diffused light for creepy places - why not? Anyway. The body proportions are all right, but the helmet looks a bit flat, as if it was thick paper; I guess it´s because the left earcover (his POV) lacks a three-dimensional quality due to the lack of shading and the very thick outline which cuts off too much of the form. That forehead-cover also seems too flat.
Speaking of thick outlines - compared to the size of the character, they seem too bold. His right eye, for example, suffers from that, as well as his trousers; while the folds are all right, the bold lines give them a kind of heavy quality, as if it was really heavy cloth, which couldn´t form light folds then.
Much talk, short meaning - overall good work, only thick outlines and missing highlights/shadows (thus, depth) give it a hard look.
(uhm, if you planned to achieve a "hard look", then just ignore the whole talk XD) |
The light was originally coming from the energy sparklies in his hands, but I suppose after a while I either forgot, got too tired, and/or got too lazy. x_x I finished the piece of dookie at, like, midnight.. sad thing is, I didn't even KNOW it was midnight till I looked at the clock.. I was still under the impression it was ten >_>; Time flies when you're getting frustrated with a picture, huh?
And if I knew how, I'd soften and thin out my lines, but I've tried a billion times over to fix that problem. Photoshop simply doesn't offer a way I know of to thin lines effectively without screwing them up (if only the 'Maximize' filter would work correctly.. -_-; ) And, well, I was a bit too lazy to run through the whole picture again and erase the lines down to a thinner quality... Maybe tableting the picture is a better choice than drawing and inking it on sketch paper, huh? :P |

I see... and tried out some things just to check, and there is a way to smoothen lines actually, yet the result isn´t that great, sadly. However, I took the whole experiment and stuffed it into one tutorial-kind-of-thing:
How to make lines go on a diet tutorial
I hope it is useful, despite the sad English I wrote there, so sorry ^^;; |

wow, it looks really good! maybe you should post the seranade that you drew too. i love your style, and rock's expression too! the colors you use are very blended and look just right for a soul. i kinda think it looks good with the thicker lines, it lets you see the seperation between areas better with all the detail you added in. the only thing i have to complain about the picture is... one of the feet is missing! *sad face* I cant wait to see more of your drawings!! _________________

..It does look like one's missing. Poo. It's supposed to be the back of an UraNet navi's head. XD; I maybe shoulda made the background just a tad lighter so you could see the blobby shadows that are supposed to be enemy Navis circling him.. |

Okay, so when I have absolutely nothing to do, I do stuff like this. Not the most original thing in the world and I've seen better Axl.exe's out there before. XD I didn't want to go too over the top, so I kept him relatively simple. This started off as a simple doodle for a collaborative fiction my friend and I are doing, but I figured I'd color it just for a color scheme. I'm neutral on the design, and the drawing itself isn't really my best work but I do kind of like it.
Like I told my friend, his icon is black because 1) The attack that gave him that really Forte-ish scar deleted his icon image file, rendering his icon blank, and 2) ...I'm just that lazy. XD And I'm well aware the whole scar on the icon thing is much too Forteish, but I'm tweaking his backstory to make it a little more original. From what I've read and heard, I think that Forte's scar is fixable, but he won't fix it because he wants to keep it as a reminder of how humans had betrayed him. Axl, however, received his scars when Red attacked him for falling short of his expectations, and the scars are most likely permanent. In the collaboration, Axl follows a story rather similar to an X7-EXE mixer - Red.exe has started a criminal group called the Red Alert in the UraNet and he finds an amnesia-case Axl wandering around the outskirts - he likes his morphing ability, takes him in, and trains him. Through intimidation he practically 'owns' Axl. Axl runs away, meets Rockman and company, madness ensues, etc.
I guess critique welcomed, even though I probably already know what all's wrong with it XD
And I have no idea how to draw guns and hands that hold guns. That's why they look cruddy. XD |
