I'll say before I start, I don't expect this thread to get a ton of responses because it pertains to the dub, but I figure SOMEONE might be interested.
I went to a convention in Long Island, New York yesterday called iCon. Brad Swaile was a VA guest there and had his own panel (right after Vic Mignogna's, actually!). I'll start off by saying not only is he a really nice guy, he's HYSTERCIALLY funny. Not to mention he was really cool to all of the fans that were in there, and even answered TWO of my questions.
The first question (which is what the thread is about) was obviously related to the mystery that I've often ranted about on the Dub topics. "Have you ever met Alex Doduk and what was it like taking over for him as the role of Lan?" He responded (and take note this isn't word for word, sorry x_x;) that he DID get to meet him in passing, as well as when they worked on another show together, and that when he first came in to play Lan he felt kind of awkward and nervous for having to take over a character that had already been well established and all by someone else. He also mentioned that at first they were looking for a VA that was close to the character's age (as with Lan's friend of course) and then switched it to him because they wanted to go with someone with a bit more range than Alex, since he was obviously going through the pubery problem at the time XD;
So yeah, I didn't exactly get a ton of info on that I didn't already know, but after he told me that, I mentioned that they did the same thing with Bill Switzer at some point and randomly changed him. Then he responded with Bill Swizer actually being offered another acting deal that was apparantly higher than that of cartoon voiceovers, and when he took it, he regretably had to leave the biz, so that whole thing was more from complications between the companies. So that's at least one mystery solved.
A bit later, when I asked my second question, I showed him a crazy picture of one of my characters from TTA, Nailock, and told him to do the first line that came into his head if he had to play the character...
"185 CUPS 'AN HOUR!! I'LL BE UP ALL NIGHT!!"
...god how I wish you guys could've been there. The whole panel was just so freaking funny XD But anyhow, steering away from my actual enjoyment, hope this clears up that whole debacle a little bit. |

I personally think the Dub's voices are better suited to the characters (Netto/Lan and Rockman/Megaman) than their Japanese counterparts. I hadn't really noticed the voice actors had changed though, when did that happen? _________________

Alex Doduk stopped playing Netto/Lan since Episode 17 of EXE... :/ So the new guy (forgot his name) has been around all Axess and Episodes 18+ of EXE. |

I prefered Chaud's NT Warrior voice over his Axess voice. |

A lot of people seem to. Me, I'm neutral over the matter, since I never much liked Chaud anyway XD;
Tohru: Brad Swaile is Lan's second VA.
ACME-Rian: Lenore Zann (Roll's previous VA) went on to continue voice-acting. I checked around, and got credits as recent as 2004 for her. And it was mentioned in the first post of what happened to Chaud's first VA... _________________

Enzan's voice was changed in the Axess dub? To be honest... I didn't noticed. _________________

hahaha, good one. Chaud's Axess voice makes him sound too calm and almost like he's a nice guy. Chaud's EXE voice made him sound more strict and semi-mean like his game-version. |

Well, there is a difference between the EXE Chaud and the Axess Chaud, y'know. The Axess one is a bit calmer, nicer, especially after Protoman became a Darkloid. So the voice fits the growth, if you ask me. _________________

My brother and friends all reckon that Japanese seiyuu is the best matched. My bro reckons that most of them looks pretty ugly in real life. XD He just loves Rie Tanaka.
Most of my friends hate dubbed voices and watch fansubbed anime instead. It's more worth it, no cutting and splitting etc. Even though we only get 256kbp/s in NZ for broadband. Our main ISP here say they're upgrading to 2mbp/s. Much better .
I knew there had to be a good reason for seiyuu changes. |

Yeah, except they're not Seiyuus for the Japanese version, they voice actors.
...I also find it odd that a lot of you guys are asking questions about things that are already explained clearly in my big story...and I have no idea who "Frank" is. |
