Yes, but obviously the size of the memory stick determines how big your files can be.

Games are also called UMDs.

Have you even been reading the posts others have made?

You'll only be able to fit a small clip on a 32 MB stick. Maybe more.

Game saves shouldn't take up too much space, unless you have a huge collection.

UMD movies don't take up any memory stick space, because they're played off the disc.

Yeah, that should be right. Having only one game kind of defeats the purpose of buying a PSP though. You might as well get a portable DVD player.

Shouldn't you be able to compress videos with no noticeable loss in quality by simply shrinking them to the size of the PSP's screen? I've messed with video editing and the video size effects file size A LOT! Heck, they'd actually look better shrunk since the pixels would be closer together.

No, because all videos are required to be a certain resolution anyway.

*bangs head against desk*

What resolution does the PSP use? Most fansubbed episodes are 640 x 480. If shrinking is as bad of an idea as you say, the resolution must be large.

368 x 208. Of course, you can stretch it to match the PSP's actual res, but it looks horrible.

I can read most subtitles fine on videos.

I don't understand. Shouldn't the PSP show a full screen video likewise instead of stretching it to fullscreen?

There are two basic aspect ratios for viewing video on the PSP:

4:3 (which is the standard letterbox TV style aspect)
16:9 (which is the widescreen format)

Videos can be encoded for viewing on the PSP in two different resolutions.

320x240 for 4:3 aspect video.
368x208 for 16:9 aspect video.

The actual resolution of the PSP screen is 480x272, but there are limitations which force you to use the lower 368x208 resolution.

Anyway, the reason you can't just "resize" the file is because it does not have support for any formats except a specific MPEG4 codec and H.264 codec. Therefore the video has to be transcoded into one of those formats. Transcoding usually results in some quality loss, depending on the bitrate you encode the new file at.

I hope this helps you to understand how it works, so get a program like PSP Video 9 and start transcoding those AVIs.

If your going to use your PSP to hold movies and stuff, I suggest either a 1GB or 2GB, they are top of the line expensive about $100-$150, but if you look in Sundays ad and check places like Office Depot or Staples and stuff, sometimes they got sales on them for like a 1GB card only being $50, i noticed that a few weeks ago, and I should of took up on that deal.

All I got is my 32MB card that my PSP came with and a 256MB card I got for Christmas one year, I just hold small videos on it, never like a full episode or movie

What I have talking about since the start is resizing a file before ever converting it for the PSP not if the PSP itself has a resize function. So if I made a resized transcode with little or no image quality loss, how would that not work?

Yes, I'm sure you've heard of the concept before. It's called "piracy."

You can also share UMDs, but it takes forever swapping the disc every time you need to load.

If you like puzzle games, get Mercury. Very very addicting, and fun. :D Lumines is also good.
