I actually like the name, although I would've preferred 'Revolution'. This name, however, is far easier for them young 'ns to pronounce. And it makes more sense than 'Xbox 360'. Not bashing the system, but 360 degrees = full circle = nothing has changed. No great logic behind that.
I think that it'll be fine in other countries, those people who don't understand the name could always think it stands for "whee", the name would still have a positive and kid-friendly image. :p _________________ Make a random avatar/ banner. | Atomic Fire's oekaki board. |

Seriously, I hope they are kidding...
I think the chances of sales for the "Wii" is actually going to drop now.
I do say it's a unique and innovative name, but tell that to the rest of North America, when they're laughing their asses off and [spoil:b4453e5772]jerking off to their 360's design and Rumble Roses game.[/spoil:b4453e5772] |

Ampersand abuse =
Wii...I'm guessing that people would prefer to name it like an acronym once it hits stores. _________________ ~DrkX (Resident over-sexed camera-whore & Facebook zombie.)

Be glad you don't. And I rebutted that not all of the country would steriotypically do that. It's just the xbox bothers him. And me to a degree but I'm nicer sometimes.
Anyway I don't mind the name. We can just call it the NW. |

SaitoRockman, I don't see the point of that spoiler tag being there...
I personally liked "Revolution" better, but there's nothing I can do about it. I don't intend to buy the console anyways, and the name has nothing to do with it. (More like lack of money.) _________________

Above all, Revolution just sounds better to me. I know Nintendo is aiming to kids, but the name just sounds too childish.
I am still going to buy it anyway. XD.
SaitoRockman: Personally, in my area, nobody likes Xbox360; most of them prefer PSP or Sony, and some others prefer Nintendo. I don't know, but alongside CfZero.exe, I found them quite an insult in someway. _________________

I'm still going to buy it... but I just want to say... between breaking my DS today and them saying the Revolution is now "Wii"... how can this day get any better? Seriously.

'And God came down from the heavens and said, "From this day forward, the Nintendo Revolution shall be forever know as the Wii". Thus it was done and it pleased him greatly.'
Sorry, I couldn't resist! ^^u
Anyway, after hearing Izumi read the article on the naming of the Wii, I had to post something. This is going to be made fun of for awhile.
In all seriousness, just like others have said, I much prefered the name Revolution. Either way, nothing anyone can do about now... likely. I will likely get a Wii in the future and I am half tempted to take a permenant maker to the name on the system and replace it with Revolution. Who knows if I will actually do it. I have to admit it, it will be nice to have the same name spanning all corners of the globe. Either way, I hope the system does well. Nintendo does have some interesting games going for it! _________________

http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=506 This article explains the reasoning behind the name. The reason that stuck out the most for me is that "Revolution" served it's purpose. It told us, the gamers, what it's about, but Nintendo's also targetting the nongamers. For them, "Revolution" would have the same connotation of "Playstation" and "Xbox" which would drive them away. "Wii" is meant to change that.
Personally, I prefer "Revolution", but "Wii" doesn't bother me. Sure it sounds stupid, but it looks neat and has the potential for some good mottos. Besides, technology and stupid names go hand in hand.
EDIT: I just found another article that does a better job. http://wiredblogs.tripod.com/games/index.blog?entry_id=1467976 _________________ Red Green's words of wisdom:

I was also disappointed with the name, but hey, the system is still extremely promising and I'm still gonna pick one up.
It'll probably grow on me, but I think people are going to make fun of the name for some time to come ^^;; _________________

At least it'll stick in your head. People aren't likely to forget about it and if Nintendo delivers the goods it won't make a difference. Of course, they'll be terribly embarassed if it flops. -_-; _________________

Honestly? I love the name. XD I'm gonna love reserving it and talking about it. And anyone who decides to buy a consol for it's name and not it's games or features probably isn't that interested anyways..>__> _________________ all i ever wanted was the world |

well, i personally like the name and it's definitely different. revolution was just what Nintendo was going to do...revolutionize the way we play video games. and as for xbox, i've never really liked it, mainly b/c i think the controller is too awkward for me to hold and i don't want to play a ps2 and get confused :D . _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

You know the name did exactly what they wanted it do.
Get people talking about it. It's probally true. Everyone is talking about it.
And so everyone will remember it. That's what you call marketing. |
