Fanfiction Challenge!

Okay everyone, Ryou gave me permission to do this, so I'm going to announce a fic challenge.

Your challenge? Write an introspective one-shot that isn't about a main character. By this, write a fic that explores the character's past and how it turned them to the person they are today.

The conditions? No main characters at all.

By main characters, I mean:

The prize? A requested one-shot from me. Yeah yeah, it doesn't seem like much, but it's an incentive none-the less. XP

The deadline? May 15th, at midnight.

Keep in mind that these are only the guide lines. You may go as wild with your fic as you want, as long as it keeps an introspective theme and follows the rules.

You may submit your fics to me via PM or through my E-Mail in an attatchment. Do NOT post it on the forum during the duration of the contest, or it will be disqualified. Any time after that is fair game.

And if you're sending by e-mail, please name the document your forum name. This will help me when I am moving all of the fics around into a folder for the challenge.

If you need any help or clarification on the rules, don't be afraid to PM me.

I've already been doing this! XD

Although, I'd have to crop and mix it a bit to get it under 2000 words...

Maybe I'll give it a shot for the fun of it, I'm not really fussed about a prize at any rate.

Interesting.

Don't you think, however, there should be a restriction on exactly who should enter? I mean, if one of the long-standing members of the fiction channel were to enter, that'd be somewhat unfair to the other contestants who try their best, no? There's also a slight threat of bias and/or favoritism...

I'm not sure if I should enter or not... writing about a lesser character is certainly a challenge, as we're all more knowledgeable about the characters that appear more often. It's a good goal to achieve; I may enter, and I may not. Hopefully I'll come up with something before the deadline, as I'm known to procrastinate quite a bit. ^^;; Best of luck to everyone.

Hm, maybe I should clarify about fan characters...

While allowed, the problem with fan characters in this type of challenge is that you won't have enough words to describe their background, their story, and have an introspective on them in 2000 words or less. It's even more confusing if you link that character to a fan fiction already written.

I did make a rule: try to keep it to one canon only. Please don't bring in characters from your own fan fiction, because then it'll get to be too much of a hassle.

I suppose I have a difference of what an OC and a fan character is in my mind; OC (to me, at least) means someone who is there in a story, but doesn't take priority or a main role, while a fan character is usually a main part.

I'm not trying to stomp on you or anything, but I want to make sure you guys have an easy time about this. Sorry if there was any confusion.

XD Why thank you Bassman. I already did enter and I sent my fic in about a week ago. Good luck to other people though, we want lots of entries. The more the merrier, plus it'll be neat to read about charachters who don't get the spotlight that much.

Challenge closed, and results are in.

First off, I wish to thank everyone who participated. I liked each and every one of your entries, because they were all impressive in their own way.

This one was really hard, so I chose three winners. Originally, I was only going to have the first place fic get a request, but then I looked at all of the entires and decided to give a request to all three. So, without further adieu...

The three winners are Neko, Plantman, and Midnight. I was very moved by all three of their fics. Not to say that I wasn't moved by the rest, but these three seemed to have the biggest impact on me. Congrats!

As of now, you may now post your contest entries. I will leave this thread open for a day or so for discussion before locking. Thanks for participating everyone! Keep on the lookout for any further challenges that might pop up in the future~!
