Yeah, I read the press release at work today. Kind of unexpected, but, hey, at least it's original. No way to mix it up with the numerical-ness of Sony and Microsoft.
I just can't wait for customers to come into my store and ask, "Can I buy a Wii, please." _________________ And if you go, furious angels will bring you back to me...

Nintendo said they're aiming for everyone, not just kids.
Anyway, I was kind of surprised with the name change but I'm not pronouncing this to be Nintendo's suicide move like many of the people on Gamefaqs are. So basically I don't really care. It's called Wii now so I'm calling it Wii. |

Playstation sound pretty dodgy too if you think about it. People well get used to it and stop giving it any notice. _________________

I might just go with what someone in a blog I read suggested: the NinWii. It sounds cooler, and the scatalogical jokes are slightly less obvious. |

Ever seen "Gonads and Strife?" It's completely effed up, but it's good to make fun of Wii with. _________________

Wii, huh? I just know that my friends will LOVE that name. I know I do...for the wrong reason. I already thought up of many "Wii" jokes. This is by far better than the names: PlayStation 3 or XBOX360
There's not much of a difference in the PS name. Nothing original.
No matter what the reason Microsoft had to give 360 to the XBOX name, it's obviously because PlayStation had a 3 on their name. Anything less would make their console sound inferior. XBOX 2 sounds inferior to PlayStation 3.
I consider Wii to indeed be a revolution. No console name has ever been this funny and original, at least to me. Wii is something everyone will be talking about. Thousands of Wii jokes will come. _________________

Most people have said that, from a business standpoint, the name was a huge mistake. At first, I was inclined to agree with them. I mean, imagine someone trying to order it from a game store while trying to keep a straight face. That changed when I read a comment from Tim Buckley, author of the gaming webcomic, Ctrl-Alt-Del:
Quote: | Like the name or not, every single tech related webpage, blog, or forum was talking about the Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of media exposure. And Nintendo got it for free yesterday. The little poem they wrote explaining the meaning of Wii might have been a bit cheesy, but A++ in Business 101 for Nintendo. |
And you know what? He's right. Almost every single person related to gaming, from the guys sitting on a couch playing Madden, to the holier-than-thou writers on 1up.com, were talking about it. And whether the talk was positive or negative, everyone who heard the conversation knew about it. And knowledge is power.
When Sony and Microsoft want to spread news about their console, they get technical. Nintendo gets CLEVER. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

And with just a week to go for E3, the tension gets that much greater. Will Nintendo cave in to protest and go back to calling it Revolution? Probably not. Eventually, so long as things work out, protesters will cave in under the Nintendo might. Has this name taken some of the attention away from the speculation surrounding the controller and its extra parts. If only I didn't have to play out in the field next week. I'll miss two days of the coverage on G4. Maybe I can get NeoKnight to record some of it. I really want to see the Wii controller in action.
On another note, vgcats.com made a great single-panel comic (#196) the other day making note of both the new name for the Wii AND making a KHII reference all at once. 'Cause everyone loves Kingdom Hearts <3 _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?
Caboose: I think so. That guy Tex is a robot, and you're his boyfriend. So that makes you... a gay robot.

I don't really mind te name "Wii". Though, I like the name "Revolution".
Doesn't matter what name it is. Still buying it.
Though, the Wii jokes are stupid, I mean, there are over 200 of them on YTMND. ._. _________________ (Insert sig here because Matt hasn't thought up of a real one yet. D:) |

And by the time E3 rolls up, the jokes will be old, boring, and exhausted. At least, for the most part. And they will be able to showcase the system, not the name.
The name "Wii" if fine by me. I really don't care what you call it. A name is largely irrelevent to me. If there are good games, I will buy one. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

Right. No one says "Wanna play with my Wii?" They say "Hey, let's go play Mario party". >_> And really...Wee jokes? That sounds pretty 4th grader-ish to me. Okay, It was funny the first 2 times. Get over it! >_<

I don't really care if it's 4th grader-ish. I told my friends about Wii and my jokes which made them laugh for like 15 minutes. You see, most of the people I hang out with aren't very understanding. They are the people that you might hate and ignore. The ones that smoke, drink, making fun of other people, get in trouble, and act like everything is a joke. Even though they are 17/18, they act like 10 years olds. I'm not too different.
Anyway, I think Wii jokes won't stop anytime soon. Probably years later, but not anywhere near E3. It's people like me, immature teenagers, and little kids who will keep the jokes alive.
The jokes might die eventually. I then predict "The games are good but the name Wii sucks, though." to be heard after the jokes are over.
I do expect great things for the Wii. I am dying to see what the gameplay will be like for games. I want to slash and stab things using the remote/controller. _________________
