Nah, it's definitely early-SNES-era graphics. Especially compared to Mother I's graphics on the NES...

I'm really pleased with the dated look, honestly. The Mother II-style sprites and 2D world appeal to me a lot more than the 3D-rendered version of this game they'd been working on for the 64DD.

anyone know if there was ever a rom for the 64 version (I am not requesting, just asking if there was) & was the 64 version just a remake? I never played earthbound so im a bit curious

Basically the 64 game I'm guessing was supposed to have everything THIS GBA Mother 3 has since the cast includes Flint, Boney the Dog, Lucas, and Claus. All of whom where main characters in the canned 64 thing. As for your question, I really don't know. Normally I'd say NO but Starmen.net seems to have this page:

http://starmen.net/stonehenge/bluedisks/

BTW people, the game is out in Japan now so pray for a stateside release.

There was never a ROM for the 64 version because it was not completed; the 64DD was scrapped. However, as Falcovsleon20 just indicated, some of the game data that was finished (there were a limited number of screenshots floating about back in '98) might eventually become accessible, though it's more thank likely all of it that was finialized is already available in form of images on starmen.net.

Okay, I've been playing the Japanese version... It's great so far and I'm gonna give it a bit of a review.

[spoil:d8b5026b80]
The graphics are pretty much the same as before as the screens indicated, but there's lots of little bits of improved detail in places that work pretty well, and sprites have more different animations for actions.

It appears to use the plot and characters they were originally going to use in Earthbound 64, and there's more then 4 main ones possibly, or at least more then 4 that you name.

Speaking of the plot, from what I can tell of what people are saying about it and the actions in the game, it's done really well. It's more serious then Earthbound, but it keeps some of the weird humor still and balances itself out.

The battle system is the same so far except one new addition which is pretty interesting so far. It's a combo system, which I haven't been able to figure out yet but seems to be based on the battle music.

It seems that pressing A to certain parts of the battle music's beat allows you to do more hits. This might not sound too bad, but it seems to require near exact precision, and I think has a small random chance of failing (plus, you have to figure out which part of the music to follow I think).

It's not cruicial to victory, but I'm having a fun time trying to figure it out and it adds up pretty well once you've gotten multiple combos in a row. Also, there's a lot of battle music in the game so it's hard to get used to it really fast.

The game's got a fairly decent amount of challenge right near the start, and I'm not sure yet but it looks like it'll be a fairly decent length for a GBA rpg... The first chapter's a bit longer then I would've expected most GBA rpgs at least, and there seems to be a fair amount of them, although I'm not completely sure on that yet.

And finally, the music. Can't think of much to say, except that it's really good so far. Okay I can think of something. There's a lot of it, so I don't think it'll get repetetive anytime soon.
[/spoil:d8b5026b80]

So in summary... I'm probably being a bit fanboyish, but I'm loving the game with perhaps a record amount of fanthing rabies so far.

[spoil:c4d038e8d5]You start off the game playing as Lucas, and you get Claus for the first battle of the game. But after that, you switch over for Flint for at least the remainder of the chapter.[/spoil:c4d038e8d5]

[spoil:55b5bd7e19]Well, seems I was unfortunately wrong about the length... It's decent length for a GBA game apparently, but still not that long. Not sure how things are with extras, but there at least isn't anything immediately noticable as soon as you beat it.[/spoil:55b5bd7e19]

I'm hoping they re-release the SNES one someday and undo all the edits NOA made to it.

I'd also like it if they released the NES one too.

But this games looks interesting, hope it comes out here.

Not to my knowledge.

And why did you post that 5 times? May I ask.

They did, in Japan. Mother 1+2 was both Mother games ported to a single GBA cart. Although Starmen.net held that big petition, Nintendo of America screwed us over and never brought the game stateside.

Haha..."Tess"... XD

But still...YES! Mother 3! Now I'm excited! ^_^ I've been holding back on buying the Japanese version, because translating RPGs, especially with the kind of obscure references Mother has...gawd. Huge pain.

Does Amazon or Ebay have it online? Because I may have to purchase both the GBA and cart from Japan.

Well...we were just discussing the English release, if that's more convenient. But yes, eBay is sure to have the Japanese version.

Well, maybe if Nintendo doesn't change their minds at the last second.
