Well congratulations, but many of us are not as fortunate as you.
I live off of $20 a week. And that's just for food; summing my expenses comes to about $40 a week (with transportation--I mean the NYC subway here.) A PS3 would have value enough to put me through an entire term at least, and probably enough to maybe go out once in a while.
When you're on your own, and have to manage your finances based on what you earn, you don't have time or room for these exorbitant costs. I believe this is one of the things that definitely holds the PS3 back from being fairly successful. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! The rich people are more than welcome to buy a PS3... the price is not an issue.
For the rest of the world, however, we have to live in the real world. _________________

You know...It's overpriced because Sony wants to squeeze as much money out of the few people who will actually buy the Playstation ThWii. =P
Wii prefer to stick with Nintendo. *bricked* |

I agWii. As I've stated on numerous occasions, if given the choice between a rediculously overpriced upgrade of the PS2 that plays three generations, and a well-priced, seven-in-one gaming revolution, I think my choice is obvious. _________________

....
Wow.
You know the only reason the 360 sold out was because they couldn't make enough? >_> There was supposed to be "2 360's for every person" or something along those lines. And by hardcore fans, I assume you mean fanboys.
I hate to say it, but I think Sony just lost this console war.
Actually, scratch that. I'm *glad* they lost. Now Sony fanboys have to shut up, sit down, and wait for something good to come along. _________________ all i ever wanted was the world |

You do know that it took more than $600 to make a PS3? I'm pretty sure that making a PS3 costs more than making a 360. Like Microsoft, Sony will also lose money for each PS3 made. If they sold the PS3 for $400 then they'll lose more cash which could put them in a bad situation.
Yeah. I do mean fanboys. If Sony is going to fail in the console war, they'll pull out their top games to save them.
God of War 2 (yeah, I know it's PS2), Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts (if we ever get there), Final Fantasy, Resident Evil (which is also on 360), and the other franchises.
Now if Sony is really really desperate for cash, they will rely on 1 game alone. Final Fantasy VII. That should sell the PS3 just like what Halo did to the XBOX. _________________

Same here. I am glad of that. >_>;
Techniquely, I hate the fact that Microsoft and Sony turned from making computers to consoles in the first place. PSP was a complete show-off case of rich people (One costing 300 dollars? You are kidding me. And it's handheld!) to those who are too poor to buy anything or only got enough to buy a DS, and PS2 is a rub-in of those who has a Gamecube. Needless to say, I do want a PSP myself, but the pricing cost me, a broke person, only dreamt about it. _________________

They did improve it. The same way they improved the Playstation controller. By ripping off Nintendo. Except, they didn't do as good a job this time. The motion sensitivity of the Nunchuck configuration looks massivley fun. From what I saw them doing when they showed the new PS3 controller at E3, all it can do is rotate in place. Meanwhile, playing games with the nunchucks is going to be one heck of a workout.
I considered something I heard today. The only two games worth playing on the 360 are Fight Night and Oblivion. If there were a boxing game for the Wii, the number of good games for the 360 would be down to one. Even I would buy a boxing game using the dual motion controllers. Block, dodge, body hit, uppercut, pwn!
OK, back on subject. One consideration that nobody has made is that the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player. And $400 less expensive than the current, cheapest Blu-Ray player. Sony is offering the world a bargain with the $600 price tag (at least for those interested in Blu-Ray technology). If games don't come out fast enough (which is unlikely, considering the dysentary-like production of games for the Playstation systems) then people can rely on watching Hi-Def Blu-Ray movies until the games they want are available. And initially, this isn't meant for people who are strapped for cash anyway. It's for manic gamers with money to burn. Or tech freaks with money to burn. Or, well, anyone who just wants it. As long as they don't love to save money. _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be buying a game console for the Blu-Ray player, would you? Then again, the Blu-Ray hardware probably makes up most of the expenses... |

Sorry. Couldn't resist:
A "sequel" console is going to make money out of sequels of established game titles? *shot*
But, on a serious note, anything original in the lineup?
To be honest, nothing new on the PS (1, 2, or 3) has impressed me since the dual shock controller. _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

True. You won't find a Blu-Ray drive for less than $1000 USD online. _________________ all i ever wanted was the world |

hmm...i want a PSP and i also want a PS3 but seeing as i'll be going off to college soon, i won't be able to buy either one anytime soon. besides, there are a lot of other expensive things that i would want to buy first. like, a Dell XPS laptop, and DJing equipment. my DS is good, and i'll buy the Wii first. also, someone mentioned earlier about buying systems when they first come out. there will probably be glitches with the first batch of systems, and i'd rather wait till the next batch comes out and when there are price cuts. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

"BUY TWO AND GET A THIRD FREE! WE LIKE YOUR MONEY!"
But seriously, I think it's dying out. They're ressurecting (Yes they are it's been confirmed) Final Fantasy 7. I think it's a fight for survival here. Good luck PS3. _________________ Hypothesis: Barrel > You

I wonder if there'll be any blood this time [spoil:2613ec0ee1]when Aeris gets skewered[/spoil:2613ec0ee1] . Sephiroth, you're my hero!
Seriously though, It might be fun to play through an updated FFVII. And I wonder what they'll come up with for a PS3 God of War game. Ooooo, the wonderful violence. Too bad I'll be waiting one or two years before bothering with a PS3. Maybe 3 years. I've got plenty of other stuff to occupy me after all. I'm still only on disc two of .hack! And I only just started Devil May Cry 3. And we just keep getting more games. I haven't even done a playthrough of God of War with a special costume yet. I'm so far behind!!!! _________________ Church: Are you following any of this?
