But isn't the majority of the fanbase the casual gamer? Ones mostly in their late teens and heading into college/workforce? They wouldn't even have the money to scrounge up to buy the lower end PS3.
And you're just making general assumptions now. Not all older gamers like violence. And your other points are refuted by the sheer fact that it's true for all systems. And as for you last point concerning GTA? Why would Nintendo need that to be 'popular'? Please provide hard evidence that GTA IV will make PS3 the end-all of all consoles, then get back to me.

Your opinion does not equal fact.
Not everyone likes Japanese RPGs. In fact, some people downright hate them. Many people like the XBox because of X-Box Live, which 360 also provides. And since when had Solid Snake been the 'father of stealth' as you put it? Yes, Halo did put X-Box on the map, but there are so many more games to it than that game alone.

Because not everyone can afford to shell out hundreds of dollars for a new PC/upgrade their old one? In this case, I could see the console version being a viable option as PC games = RAM hogs.

Which is why the Gamecube sold more in Japan.
The only mistakes I've seen the Gamecube have is not having a big enough launch selection, and coming out after the hype of the PS2. It wasn't as popular, but it did not 'lose' to the X-Box, as you put it.
Look, PS3 may be a good or bad thing, I don't know. However, if you're going to fanboy, please leave your opinions at the door and open your eyes, because there are so many more things to what you said.

But most of the game console transfer gives lag or a lesser pla value.
I.e. Sonic Riders, or almost all the games from SEGA.
Actually, I don't even get your third-party support. Sony isn't a game making company, it's a console making. How can they have third-company support?

Just so you know, I hate Japanese RPGs, except Pokemon and EXE.

Because it's better to play on the console itself then to play on the computer, where screen is smaller, takes out a huge load of RAMs, not to mention the installation size?
Besides, if it was me, I would never use PC for gaming if there is one for a console, unless I have no money to buy it.

Gamecube did not make a mistake, mind I add.
What it was simply lacking was gamers these nowadays wants more than just gaming; they want videos on consoles, music, online gaming, and others that I can't imagine what would need for games. Gamecube had been sold extremely well in Japan, as Sol said, and it is definitely not a loss to PS2 or Xbox. Note that I am not saying who wins who, just that who doesn't lose who.
And besides, about 90% of the friends I know at school have a Gamecube, while little has a PS2 or Xbox.

I talked with this guy over at GameStop today and he said Nintendo confirmed(dunno) that all fighters from Melee are in SSBB along with 26 new fighters,which brings up our total to 51 now.
A lil' Smash Bro thing here...BRING BACK MARS! :D

I hope Halo does come to an end so the others can get a chance on the spotlight.
See, Nintendo and Sony does not have 1 game that’s hyped up like Halo, in which ALL the other games are treated as second best. Just imagine if Zelda had that much hype. Mario and Super Smash will get this reaction “Wow, I can’t wait!”. While Zelda will get “OMG! I’m gonna buy Zelda on the release day! Who in America wouldn’t buy one seriously? It’s like the best game in the world!”
Also, Metal Gear began the whole stealth-craze. I watched Icons and it said that many other games started copying Metal Gear with their own stealth game. One of them being Splinter Cell whom competed with Metal Gear. So since Metal Gear started the up rise of stealth genres, Solid Snake is the Father of Stealth.
Yes, GC did lose to the XBOX. It came in last in sales like I already said.
PS2- 103.6 million
XBOX- 24 million
GC- 20.61 million
Yeah…it lost. Lost as in last place.

Yeah, a game can be great but not work at the same time. Take Dragon Quest for example. Japan loves it and it's great to them but it just didn't work with Europe or America.
When I said "not work" I meant that it wasn't as successful as the other. Capcom did what any company would do and that's to gain a wider audience. GC just didn't have enough people. While GC and XBOX had quality graphics, PS2 had quantity in sales.

why do people still think GTA is cool... its one of the worst games out there.... not just morally but Overall gameplay as well. now the PS3 in my opinion is going to be one of the worst selling systems out there... like Sol already stated most games are ether Teens, College Students and People who have jobs...
since most teens don't have jobs and since College Students have to pay for college, food, bills and stuff like gas. spending $499 for a game console would put them out. and most people with jobs are living on their own in a home/apartment and pay for bills (Cell, Rent, Water, Gas, Electric, Car Insurance, etc....) and would be a quite a spend for them.. heck even my dad thinks its crazy pay 500 - 600 dollars for a game console.
now there will be people who save up the money to by the system but that will mostly be College Students and Workers. not many teens will save up 500 - 600 dollars for the PS3 and you know that it wont be the hottest buy during the Christmas season. (most parents will think its to expensive)
but thats just what I think.... we'll just have to see when this christmas comes.

That IS my current mindset. I'm goint to be buying Twilight Princess with my Wii. I will be buying both Super MArio Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the days they release. I cannot wait for these. And that's the mindset of a lot of people I know. I want a Wii, and I want one now. And I want at least 13 Nintendo games that are coming for the Wii and DS.
There was only one game I saw for the PS3 I'd want, and I'm not willing to pay $550/650 for one game. Not when I can get a Wii and probably every launch title for less.

I'm tired from writing papers and studying, so I'm just going to say this.
PS3 will undoubtably sell several consoles. However, it is still a huge turn off to the mainstream market, as $500-$600 is far too much just for a console. Right now, Sony only has one or two games that look interesting enough, but it needs far more than that to get sales.
PR is important, and Nintendo pretty much assured lots of sells of the Wii when it is released at E3 with their performance. Sony hasn't done such a great job with their PR campaign and their conference was pretty much considered a major turn-off except for MGS4.
Look, I don't care much for console wars. So one console sold more than another one? So? Isn't it the fact that people buy consoles and games just to enjoy it, rather than make themselves feel morally superior by having the 'first place console' enough?
Think about it. In the end, it's not about how many consoles were sold, it's about if that person wanted to buy it for enjoyment. I don't get why people have to tout one company over another, because it's pretty pointless after everything is said and done.
So if you want to blow more than half a grand on a console, I'm not going to stop you. But I would rather you think about what you're going to say, because not everyone is going to go around, flouting their money.

The main point that you seem to fail to realize is that the majority of gamers are not geeks with bottomless pockets of cash. No, they are the average teen, college student, and/or young adult. Most gamers, especially the newest ones, won't have a care in the world what console they buy--they play games to have fun. That is where the high price comes in. Would a new gamer rather spend $700+ on a console and several games (in the case of the PS3), or more along the lines of $350+ for the same quantity of games (in the case of the Wii.)?
I've watched a bit of the E3 coverage, and let me tell you, another reason the PS3 is not as appealing as the Wii is that there simply aren't enough games out there for the PS3 to merit shelling out half a grand for it. Yes, there are some utterly fantastic games on that console, but not enough to merit me spending months upon months of hard-earned money.

And rightfully they should be, as it is the general consensus that Nintendo has had the greatest positive impact on all of the gamers at E3. Acknowledging this has only shown that the other two companies are running scared. They know that they will have a tough act to follow.

Why does it matter at all? These are just numbers--they do nothing to show the quality of the console nor of its games. In such an environment like this, you can't honestly expect past sales to predict future ones. One of these companies will inevitably develop some sort of breakthrough that advances the quality of gaming, and naturally, people will flock to it. It could be ANY of these consoles that are in first and that are in last--a lot of it has do with timing, as has been said.

Those are American numbers. While we do in fact live in North America, the Japanese numbers are very, very different. As many of us know, the XBox, and the 360 have both failed miserably. Also, the XBox survives on one singular franchise. Unless MS comes up with something new, they'll be stuck making Halo after Halo until the end of time. Nintendo has complete control over the Japanese market, especially in the portable market, which they also dominate too. So, while Nintendo came in "last" on this side of the pond, it's only one piece of the pie. I expect them to do quite well in the seventh generation of gaming.

Midnight, numbers do matter. KH2 sold 1 million in 4 weeks, that tells you something. Lots of 360s are still on shelves in Japan a few days after launch, that tells you something. Quality and quantity are different, yes, but having just 1 MIGHT not be enough. Sure, the Cube and XBOX did have quality while the PS2 was the weakest in hardware but it had quantity. In sales, quality alone won‘t cut it. (XBOX and Cube)
You can have a game with inferior graphics but still sell millions. Or you can have a game with great graphics but sell only half of the competition. Quantity IMO determines the quality.
If 100 people bought PS3 and 50 people bought 360s, then that tells me the PS3 is better. The console with the highest sales tells people they are indeed the best. If the Wii sold the most in this console war, then that tells people that the Wii is the best of the 3.
What the PS3 needs is a good line-up. Wii has Zelda and that’s their trump card. Right now, I don’t see the PS3’s ‘trump card’ in their current line-up. Hopefully it’s something good and well known.
I’m just sick and tired of people bashing the PS3 because they copied Nintendo and Microsoft. Not to mention the price tag. Seriously, they take the slightest negative thing about PS3 and make a big deal of it. Check gamefaqs, other gaming sites, …or here. So what if Sony copies? Everyone in the gaming industry copies. The only originals are the firsts of every genre or the first new things to hit consoles. Everything else are mere copies of the original game or console
Call me a PS3 fan boy if you want. I am hoping PS3 will pull off another win. That is the best way to piss off the PS3 haters, whom to my surprise are mainly Nintendo fans. Here I thought the majority of people who disliked PS3 was the 360 fans.

Perhaps in the short term, but this is something that cannot be extended into long-term sales. Given time, people will see the quality of the games and that will lend strength to future sales. And then, quality will take an important role, as word-of-mouth advertisement will likely be paramount. As it stands right now, there may be some good games that will come out with the PS3, but as I've said before, it costs an obscene amount to get your hands on those games (system + games). If there are more appealing games that will be showcased, then I will concede my point, but as it stands, there's no indication that the PS3 will have as strong of a fanbase to begin with.

Perhaps, but that doesn't say anything about the people. The 100 buyers could have been fanboys and fangirls, and the other 50 may have been just regular people freshly introduced to the gaming world. The numbers are just numbers--they're not accurate unless we know about the people that these numbers represent. If we can say that the numbers fairly represent a homogeneous cross-section of the consumers out there, then the numbers have some merit.
