MMBN6 Cross Names and Name Changes Continuation *SPOILERS*

The thing is, Aquaman is still a licensed trademark by DC in America. It doesn't have a holding in Japan, as far as I know, but it wouldn't surprise me if DC caught wind of what Capcom did and tried to sue. Even if Capcom won the lawsuit, I think they changed the name to save themselves the trouble of having to go through it again.

Plus, I think they did that to just make all of his versions the same name. Less hassle for them that way.

As for the 4Kids thing and Sega VAs? Well, from what I heard, there is a clause in a 4Kids VA contract that says they can only work with other 4Kids VAs. And since Sega needed someone to replace Eggman...you get the picture.

Personally I think that clause if Bull ****. Mostly because they didn't tell the good VAs that they couldn't do it anymore. But we all know about 4kids so I won't say anymore about it.

Thanks to BradyGames deciding to have the guide out a week before release (god bless 'em), I took a peek and found out their names!

Also, I will not be covering the Navis, simply because we know the changes already.

(Not much to say here. Joe just seems rather bland, if you ask me.)

Captain Kurohige = Capt. Blackbeard
(The literal translation. Good job so far!)

Chirol = Yuika
(Is that her surname? Oh well, nothing bad here.)

Phakchi Fahran = Ms. Fahran
(Still impressed here. And even for the gender-confused, they decided to shorten it with a "Ms.")

Fuuten Roshi = Master Feng-Tian
(O...kay... It still keeps with his theme, I guess...)

Doutarou = Moliarty
(GOOD HEAVENS, MR. HOLMES! This made me crack up so much! Gotta love the play on words!)

Kurogane Kunio = Mr. Ferry
(...A ferry is a SHIP. Oh well, can't win 'em all)

Dark Kirisaki = Dark Scythe
(Okay, WTF? They changed Dark Miyabi to Dusk, yet they'll keep it for this kid?! Logic, please!)

Spoilers referring to a character in the spoiler posted above, as well as a couple characters that aren't in the spoiler.

[spoil:a87f0bec2f]apparently, Mach's first name was Gou so the Joe thing is actually pretty close to what it already was.

Are Satoru and Nyuudo's names listed anywhere in the book? Or are they kept the same?

Anyhow... besides Mr. Ferry, I like them this time around. It sounds like they put a fair bit of thought in to making them interesting and fit the characters, for the most part.

The name changes look good I think I might actually get the English version soon. Though I need to wait till I get more money.

[spoil:260247f9f5]The Dark Scythe thing didn't surpise me to much. In the first game with Shadowman in it, if I remember correctly, they had Dark Miyabi named Mr. Dark. Then they changed it when he showed up in EXE 5, i guiess they decided to give Mr.Dark a first name, being Dusk. Though Dark Scythe seems a little odd for a name.[/spoil:260247f9f5]

The names I find weird are dotaru's (Where'd they get that from?) and Chirol's. (Does she even have a last name?) But they could have tryed something better then ferry, maybe mr. rail since he's a train guy.

Oh and for Fuuten Roushi, Fuuten's original Chinese (Mandarin) reading is Feng Tian which explains that one.

Kurogane is a little "wtf?" unfortunately. But I don't know about Chirol, according to the book I have she doesn't have a last name, like Dingo.[/spoil:1a5f8aed3a]

Eh, it could be much worse so I'll take my blessings with this one.

Well...looks like the translation staff actually put in some thought into their translations. This looks well for the game itself...

Kudos to the staff for the Holmes reference in the name, though I guess I can see why the spelling is that way.

Other than that, it's a good indication that the translation of the game is looking to be quite a good one. It's certainly fueling my interest in purchasing it, or at least kindling the fire.

As for Kurohige, we all saw that coming, so I'm not surprised at all.

I wonder what [spoil:c2e5e48a63]Kenji[/spoil:c2e5e48a63] will be renamed to. Probably Lawrence, if they continue to play around with puns.

HK - To echo off of Planty and Aether's posts, which both hit the nail on the head, [spoil:30e131e48f]they are just trying to be creative changing his name to Moliarty, as...well, obviously you find moles underground more often than not and that's just a cheesy, but fun, play on words. And better than, say, something like "The Worminator" or whatever else you'd like to associate with the ground. Cause no doubt they came up with that and more in a brainstorming session.

But then again, if people are going to continue believing the idea that the reason Aquaman's name was changed was because its the same as the DC character, then I better start the rumor that Disney is going to go insane and sue over Moliarty, because he was a villain on Darkwing Duck. What a smart little mole that guy was with his inventions and such. Of course, Capcom had the rights to make a few Darkwing Duck games, so that kinda would kill that rumor right away...but play along with me anyways. Curse you Capcom, now you've given me the urge to break out DW for NES!! (off I go to play...)[/spoil:30e131e48f]
