Rock Miyabi Likes to do Drawrings! (Some OT)

Hey, everyone. Well, for a Rockman forum, I don't have a ton of original Rockman art right now. But I thought I'd give everyone a little taste of what I've drawn over the years. First, just a little bit about how I go about things. Pretty much been just a standard pencil to paper guy and nothing fancier than that. After I've sketched something out, I usually will "ink" (if you will) just through darkening the sketch with pencil and I handle most of my shading and coloring in that way too. Just love that look. Gets messy quick, though. I don't have Photoshop, I've got the crappy ancient version known as Adobe PhotoDeluxe. So all your fancy layering and adjusting levels and whatever...yeah, basically I have no access to it. But I can at least handle basic coloring and attempt changing backgrounds, but it's a major pain with this software. So, if you see some flaws, chances are that's why.

I'll start off with my avatar and sig artwork so you can see them larger, the only Rockman stuff I'll post today. When I came up with my forum name, one of the ideas in my head was sorta like a Miyabi cosplay Rockman. My other idea involved rockstar Miyabi jamming on an electric guitar with groupie Yuriko among others. No clue if I'll ever get around to it, but an idea in my head at least.

Then for my sig: Shadow Bubs! I just remembered Bubbleman's hilariously bad costume attempt in the manga, and knew I had to draw a new version of him screwing something up. For those of you who sadly don't get to see Burger King commercials with their mascot, The King, I pity you. You're missing out on one of the worst characters ever! You either love him or hate him. So I felt they went together well. But this is just the single image of Shadow Bubs I did.

Speaking of The King, I think I'm the only person in the world screwed up enough to have drawn him! I did a quick drawing for a friend right after the NBA instituted their new dress code. Enjoy the cameo by the NBA Commish David Stern and Shaq.

One of my anime character obsessions is Juuhachigou, or Android 18 of DBZ. For a few years now, I've been doing an 18 and Krillin Valentine's Day pic. Here's my 2004 version, probably my best. You guys should all be able to pick out what I used for my reference art on this one.

Another DBZ one, Krillin and 18's daughter, Marron. Did this for an advertising class in college, where I had to design an ad for the Minnesota Twins Baseball Community Fund. I used this as my main art.

Two more quick, and that's good. I was an illustrator for my college paper for a year, not quite like the politcal cartoonist, but whenever they had an article that needed some kind of image to go with it, I usually got to draw something up. I had to use ink here, so my attempts at shading probably aren't the greatest. Had to be extra careful with no way to erase a mistake while working on the original. Two of my faves here. First was about Ralph Nader stealing votes from the Democrats, notably John Kerry, which the writer felt caused George Bush to win the Presidency. Ignore Nader's deformed arm. It was hurried I tells ya! If you're into politics, you might like this. Or if you hate George Bush, you can laugh at a dart in his eye...at least a dartboard pic of him. The final one I did for an article on steroids in baseball, before they had testing. It's got legendary Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Carey singing a new version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Hopefully I'll start doing more Rockman stuff. I've got quite a few navi/operator collages I've been working on, but then again, they're mostly based off screenshots, so I don't know if it's the most original thing to post. But we'll see. I might not be the quickest at getting a pic done, but I suppose if anyone is crazy enough to ask me to draw a request, I'd be open to it. Enjoy! Discuss! Critique!

Some of those are pretty funny. You're also pretty good at this. Krillian getting android 18 is like life telling him, sorry for killing you so much. heh heh And you may not be the first to draw the king but it's as funny as the picture I found.

Might as well pull two more OT's out of the way back machine. The older one: Lulu and her dolls from Final Fantasy X! A little less sexified and a little more chibified. For that reason, I brightened up her outfit a bit. The colors! They're blinding! No Onion Knight doll, for some reason I just never did. The more recent one: Juuhachi all dressed up with no place to go. Yeah, I realize the part in her hair is inversed here, but I liked the way it looked better.

And here's a preview of some of the Rockman related art I'm working on. Not really touched up, other than a slight contrast adjustment, so pardon any of that eraser/lead smeary mess if it's visible. Still in the sketchy/close to inking and shading phase. First, an SD Searchman in a rather generic pose. I'm not happy with the right side of his body (leg and hand specifically), so that's gotta be worked on. Second, the watery trio (which I think I'm going to add an SD Diveman to. He needs to be part of that group now). And finally, a Navi collage based off of some screencaps (I take no credit for those poses, but put together, it's turning out cool. Not happy with Rock's eyes right now. Thinking of adding a praying Roll in that bottom left corner to fill it up. Any other ideas?)

Any one of those you guys would like to see finished first?

Hehehe...you saved the unfinished version, X-shunin! -_-; I even said what parts I wanted to touch up still! But it's nice to know you like my work that much. So, since you were the first to mention any of those preview pics, I'll finish up Searchy first for ya. Depending on how much time I spend editing Beast Ep. 5, I hopefully will get it touched up, shaded and colored sometime this week.

Those are pretty good. I like the chibi lulu and 18. I always liked 16 too.
With the collage, just add magnetman and you have most of my favorite team for liberate missions. (I like using colonel more then protoman.)

Technically for X-shunin, whenever he gets back. Enjoy Searchman, now in 4 flavors: plain, nutty, mint and neopolitan! I'm posting the finished pencil sketch, colored version, and 2 "background" versions. Pick your poison. I think this is the first I've posted shaded in pencil only, which is typically my style. In some respects, I can understand why people would rather just color a lineart version, but when I'm sketching, shading it in just gives me closure. That way, I don't get tempted to change something I still notice after I would consider it 'done.' Don't think it affects my coloring that much. Slight change to this version from the preview pic. Kinda maybe EXE 4.5 spoilies (I'm playing it safe): [spoil:3473ee07fc]Searchman has a minigame![/spoil:3473ee07fc] I've been playing a lot of characters recently, and, while fun, it's occasionally the most frustrating for me, especially when you just miss beating it by like a second. So that explains psycho Searchy with Met that I just quickly threw in the upper left corner.

Next thing I'm working on is a little different. I had a quick summer idea, so the next pic to watch for will be "(All-)Starman," with another Navi as a surprise, that should be funny if I pull it off right. Enjoy, guys.

Sorry for not being the greatest World Cup fan, but this is one of my favorite times of the year, as the MLB All-Star game is coming up pretty soon. As much as I'd like to see a good 4-5 of my Minnesota Twins in it, especially since we can't seem to make up any ground in our division despite being one of the hottest teams around, I just love watching the game itself. To celebrate and to wish the REO community a happy summer, I present to you (All-)Starman! Looks like he swings a pretty heavy bat!

And if anybody wants to get super picky with me, yes, that's more of my own design for the Astros jersey and yes, Cosmoman has a few too many lines on his head...I tried from memory on him and didn't notice my mistake until I was halfway done coloring. Um...he got black line tatoos down his side? Pretend, so I look less stupid. -_-;

Much higher resolution version (538kb) if you'd prefer, here. Otherwise, PM me if you'd like to see a clean version without the jokey commentary or something like that. As always, enjoy.

So, um...show of hands, who thinks I should try my hand at Maq's Bathing Suit Contest? And if so, which category do you think I have a better chance of destroying the competition in? (kidding, all other entrants...I kid.) Content or Talent?

Yeah, this is pretty messy right now. Lines need to be straightened, curves need to be altered, shading to do, etc., etc. I have a few smaller things to include in it still too, although I don't want this to get too cluttered. It almost is already, since my original idea became too big for the paper and, well, I suck at drawing things proportionately smaller in the background. So I wouldn't call this sketch done yet, even. But I thought I'd see if I could get any other opinions/critiques before I get to the inking and coloring stage. Don't want to procrastinate too long, since I don't have a ton of time left anyways, but felt I should get some second opinions first. Thanks in advance, everybody.

Thanks for the comments Mugen and Haly. Well, I'm slowly working on a few of those special small things to add right now, one of which is pretty much done. Since I knew it'd be easier to shrink it, I just drew it large and will layer it in to the main pic later. So here it is big, so you can actually see it. ROYAL BEACH BALL!! Me and my lame beach-themed name changes. I've got tons.

But on that note, (I hope this doesn't count as some kinda "not supposed to be here" request. If so, mods, feel free to edit it out) has anyone here ever taken a navi pic they drew and tried to give it that hologram look, a la the Link PET style we see in Beast? That's the effect I'm trying to go for, but with my photo program, all I can really do is adjust the brightness/contrast for that effect. And to me, it's not really looking like it should. If anyone had any tips, I'd appreciate it. Or if any of you Photoshoppers feel like you could do a good job altering this pic yourself, PM me. I will be in your debt and would be glad to take on an fanart request in the future.
