Tales of Symphonia: The Animation was also announced, apparently.

If the other two Tales animations are any indication, it will suck. Not that it matters, the English fan reaction will be brutal either way.

Interesting...

Erm, for those of us who have not been in the Tales fandom as long as others, could you elaborate on the last attempts on animation? And the prospects on this one?

As for the games, they look nice, and I'm happy to see them return. It'll be an excuse for me to break out my PS2 again.

Tales of Eternia: Basicly, it's a 13 episode "sidequest" of sorts that takes place during a major event in the game. For some reason, they have no idea how to get to where they're going, even though they have the spell used to get there already. Kinda silly and pointless.

Tales of Phantasia: In the game, you go back in time, and do various things. I would assume that the present in this game is the result of this, seeing as they were told what they were going to do before actually going. This could've been good, but since it was only 4 episodes, almost everything between the beginning and the ending was skipped.

I can't flat out say that it will be horrible yet, but I can't see any other possibility for the Eternia route. If it's an adaption, and it's not condensing hours of plot into 4 episodes, it could be good.

RE: Tales of Phantasia OVA
While I agree wholeheartedly that the Eternia anime is an instant flop (the first 7 minutes of the 1st episode is fine, thank you very much), I also strongly believe that the Phantasia OVA is a redemption of sorts.
While it's true that most of the story elements from the game were not included (including some of the timeline assignments of some of the characters), the gist of the story is intact while not ending up a walkthrough for the game.
In fact, I was impressed with the setting of their first time-travel. They handled it like a novel where (sorta spoily) [spoil:b522751921]the land's officials interrogated the heroes as if they were spies, which would be pretty much how any country at war would handle complete strangers.[/spoil:b522751921]
While it's true I wanted to see in-depth elaborations on some sidequests, I'm very much content with how they condensed the story for the Phantasia OVA.

Heheh, off-topic, true, as this topic is about the 4 new releases -_-;
Yesterday's announcement also mentioned more details on the four later today (June 21), so this'll probably be followed by a double-post.

Other than a few new screenshots, Tales Channel didn't add anything that wasn't revealed on other sites/in magazines yesterday as far as I can tell. (Phantasia port 50 may have updated graphics in some places, but they could have been like that in the Playstation version)

But the screenshots are nice. And skills in mid-air! And Leon uses 2 swords like in D2! And Senel looks even worse in Symphonia/Abyss proportions! And that furry guy from Rebirth!

The Tales of Destiny remake seems pretty awesome. Although, I wonder if Lilith will now join your party. Another thing I hope they have is the ability to have four high level spells on the screen at the same time, just like in Abyss. Plus I want to see Johnny combo in the mid-air!

Also, everyone has tiny feet in Radiant Mythology. Ah well, having Phantasia through Abyss characters in your party seems really cool.

Update: Tales of Phantasia ~Full-voice Version~

They've announced the list of characters that will have voices, and the names of the talents that will voice them.

Here are some I especially wanted to have a game voice that are included in the list:
Runeglom (Shimada Satoshi)
Blambard/Brambert (Inada Toru)
Maxwell (sorry, can't read this one -_-; )
Mirald (Sumitomo Yuko)
Miguel Alvein (Yasushi Matani)
Maria Alvein (Nishihara Kumiko)
Meryl Adnade (Hayami Kei)

I'm not sure if some of them are reprising their roles in the OVA, though.

I recentely got into the Tales series last year with Tales of Symphonia, and now I just can't stop. @_@; So many PSP games coming out for it too, I'm so excited! *needs to build up her PSP library*

I have never played one before in my life but I've heard they're very good.
I think some people say Tales of the Abyss is the best one. Guess I'll start with that one when it comes out in Q4 06.

Reviving two "Tales" threads obviously indicates that's what I've been busy with since I arrived in Japan Laughing

A report on two titles I've spent my train time, bus time, and the week-long New Year's holidays here:
(WARNING: Possible spoilers)

Tales of the Tempest
Since the first Tales game, the lowest possible level your characters need to be in order to win against the final boss has been in the mid-50's.
I finished this game just below level 30 :/
While the battles make you want to save your game after every "survival", the story's been very, VERY rushed.
It didn't seem so the first few travels from town to town, but it suddenly goes "THE END" on you.
And the final boss? Wuss.
Dhaos had three forms.
Miktran had three (fighting him as Hugo included)
Nereid, I remember her having two.
Elraine, same as Nereid.
Rebirth's final boss I couldn't remember.
Mithos had three forms, too.
Legendia and Abyss I have yet to get my hands on.
Tempest's just.... non-last-boss-y. Sad
Sure, the creatures you encounter along the way are smarter compared to the previous Tales games I've played, but learning how to beat them only made the final boss too easy.
My score for this game: 2/5 stars

Tales of Destiny (PS2 remake)
Now, THIS is a bigger fanservice compared to Tales of Fandom ^_^
Every key event is voiced. The anime cutscenes are well-placed (Leoooooooooooon!!!)
Some story elements were changed, but made more emotional.
How Stahn and Rutee's relationship developed was presented better compared to the original (which leaned more towards Stahn and Philia).
Mary and Kongman (Bruiser Khang) fans rejoice! They're no longer optional!
Leon still has to die, though. Sequel and all that Laughing
And the BATTLES! Ho-HO! I only ran away from a random encounter a total of 2 times, compared to the nearly 200 times in the original.
It has some similarities to the Legendia battle system (from what I've watched), but the absence of the need to stock up on orange and pineapple gummies is a welcome mix in my book Smile
I have yet to find out the use of pompom seeds in this game, though Confused
My score for this game: 4/5
And only because Johnny gets 2 Blast Caliburs. I want three! Laughing

They're going to announce a new game on Tales Channel on the 21st, apparently. The rumored name is Tales of Endlessia, which is the worst name I have ever heard.

edit: Namco also put a survey up which apparently relates to the future of the series. normally, this would be BS, but it sure seems like they've put a lot of work into it.

BUMMP.

Anyway, the trailers for the Symphonia OVA are slowly being released, the latest one being released two days ago (at least, that's when I was shown it).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuqaAubtsvA

The link above appears to have a full scene from the animation, complete with voice-overs and BGM, and what appears to possibly be a clip from the OP. I think it mentions that the OP is already released and on sale, but my limited knowledge of Chinese hanzi hampers my understanding of the kanji on the screen.

What say you?

I currently have 3 "Tales of" games, and Tales of Symphonia is my overall favorite game also Smile

The "Tales of" games I currently own:
Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube)
Tales of Phantasia (Gameboy Advance)
Tales of Eternia (Playstation Portable)

I will rebuy Tales of Phantasia when the PSP version is released (doesn't mean I wont keep the GBA one, since having the GBA one is cool too)

I love both anime's, since Farah Oersted is my #3 animegirl, and the Eternia anime is quite cool in story etc imo. The Phantasia one was also quite good drawn and the action was cool.

The first episode of the Tales of Symphonia anime will come in June 2007. It will be 4 eps long with probably a new ep every 6 months(Just like the Tales of Phantasia anime, it would take 2 years for 4 eps).

Great, Mid.
You just made me pre-order the thing >_<
A good thing that Amazon.jp ships DVD's internationally Wink

EDIT:
The Tales Channel announced last week that they're releasing yet another fan DVD (forgot what it's called, and they already replaced the headline), featuring every Tales title from Phantasia to Tempest.
B-U-T, for some reason, with a glaring absence of Abyss T_T

Heheh.

At least you may be able to "share the wealth," as they say. I'm sure that there are people who would want to see the OVA eventually, even if raw.

And yeah, I think this would make me want to preorder it as well, assuming that I actually had the money to do so.
