This is based slightly on a true story. My cousin Emma, is at the stage that Larkman is in this fic and so she's repeating what she hears. In an effort not to curse when something happens I say 'rawr' so I don't get into trouble. Emma heard that and began to say 'rawr' too and it is the most adorable thing EVER. Anyways, hope you like it plant!

Larkman cooed and grinned up at his grumpy grandfather in an effort to cheer the stoic navi up. Shademan looked at the tiny navi and gave him a half smile for his efforts but quickly returned to his dour look. Larkman frowned and sat on his haunches in order to get a better look at Shademan. He tilted his head to the side and gave the older navi a questioning look. “I’m tired,” Shademan told him. “Today hasn’t been the best.”

Larkman appeared to ponder this for a moment before he burst into giggles and clapped his hands. Whenever he did something cute, Shademan was always the first to smile at him and tell him how cute he was. In private that is.

Shademan gave him another half smile and patted the child on the head with one of his huge hands. “Tired,” he emphasized once again.

“Ti…re…” Larkman attempted to mimic the sounds, only being halfway successful.

Shademan nodded. “Yes, tire,” he said with another grin that was slightly larger then the first.

Larkman could feel he was getting somewhere so he struggled to his feet and walked over to Shademan and braced his weight on the navi’s knee. “Dada,” he said in a happy voice.

Shademan shook his head. “Not here,” he replied. “It’s just you and me today,” he told him and picked him up. He lifted Larkman over his head and Larkman giggled and gushed as he waved his arms about, pretending to fly.

Shademan nodded and then set the child down. “How about we get something to eat,” he said and walked towards the kitchen. Larkman toddled after him and looked around as Shademan opened the cupboards for something to eat but he saw that there was really nothing there. Nothing for Larkman anyways.

He leaned back and cursed his luck. The day wasn’t exactly going his way. He had a small spat with Burnerman earlier that day and he wasn’t exactly feeling the best. He knew better then to curse out loud so he opted to go with the one thing he could probably get away with in the presence of a child that was repeating everything he heard. “Rawr,” he sighed.

Larkman blinked. He had never heard this before. ‘Rawr’ he thought. It sounded simple enough. “Rawr,” he repeated and giggled.

Shademan looked back down at Larkman and blinked. “Huh?” he asked.

“Rawr!” the baby navi said again and giggled. “Rawr, rawr, rawr!”

This was just too cute, even for Shademan. Larkman began to stomp around the kitchen and chant his new favorite word. “Rawr!” he said and giggled.

Shademan picked up the child and held him securely in his arms. Larkman looked up at Shademan and grinned broadly. “Rawr,” he said.

Shademan smiled broadly at Larkman who now began to cheer and clap. Finally, finally he got his grandpa to smile. Yay for him! “Rawr,” he said out loud in celebration.

Shademan chuckled and went back to the living room. “Yes,” he agreed. “Rawr.”

I think I've seen a few other stories that have been based around the innocent parroting of a taboo word (i.e., Meet the Fockers), but this one definitely takes the cake. The images look so...vivid, and it's cute to imagine someone of Larkman's age go through what he is doing now.
