(I didn't really find a topic for this, so...)

Well, Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z started a couple of weeks ago, and it's an anime adaptation of the original Powerpuff Girls. It's about three girls named Akatsutsumi Momoko, Gotoukuji Miyako, and Matsubara Kaoru who are zapped with Chemical Z to become Hyper Blossom, Rolling Bubbles, and Powered Buttercup. Other creatures that spawned into villians, like Mojo for example, were also zapped by Chemical Z, so Professor Utonium is trying to reverse the effects of Chemical Z.

This series is really different from the original PPG, but Momoko/Blossom is my favorite character, since she apparently has a balanced personality. The transformation scenes and music are pretty too, but the fighting scenes in my opinion aren't really that flashy. XP

I've seen most of episode one and I'm defenitely not impressed >____> In my opinion it's just a bad attempt at making money fast Oo The art is okay-ish... the background music sucks... the opening titles suck... the story is incredibly stupid @___@;; And what the hell happened to townsville? And the major being a small dude with one of them glass thingies and miss Bellum having RED hair!
Well, in any case, it's my >opinion< that this sucks :p have a nice day ^__^

<3 I love it. My favorite is Bubbles (I don't want to call her by her name ;( ) I like her weapon best and her personality. I don't so much like Buttercup's redesign because of the hat-hair thing she has going D:. I love the opening and ending... I hate those pointless snack-breaks, and the fight scenes aren't that great, Bubbles's bubbles need to explode! :O

Personally, I really dislike it from what I've heard. Sure, I shouldn't judge a show I haven't watched but I dislike aspects of it on principle.

1. They removed the family dynamic! Part of the charm of the original was the family interactions.

2. They changed it into Mahou Shouju and gave them henshins. This means they no longer have to deal with their super powers in day to day life. This also was part of the original's charm.

3. Weapons! They don't need weapons when they had super powers originally! T_T

From the first screening I've seen a long time ago. (I don't know if they kept the same look) I kept saying that Buttercup looked like Leona from King of Fighters.

I haven't seen this new series, but I like Buttercup since she reminds me of myself when I'm at school. I won't take backtalk and will beat the tar out of anyone who wants to cross me.

Just that description alone made my stomach turn. o_O I'm curious to see what the redesigned characters look like, but I think I much prefer the original, thank you...

I saw a ppg Doujinshi about the girls as teenagers, I wonder if ppgz was taken from that...

Honestly, you have to take PPG and PPGZ as two differently entities, with the second being loosely based on the first. It's like... authorized plagarizism. XP
While I prefer the original, the new series is still very good. The animation is fantastic, and I love the henshin sequences. Also, the series has just begun, and we all know the start of a series is often rocky. Most series don't get good until later on.

I'm going to watch it just to see where it goes. Although considering that Cartoon Network Japan is helping make it, I'd say its American parent will snatch it up very, very soon. I'd say we'll see a dub of this in the very near future... and hopefully we'll see some returning voice actors. I'd love to see Mojo Jojo's VA (and maybe a bit of his original personality/antics) help PPGZ.

I agree with Zippo, you guys are also taking this a bit too seriously. I mean it's just a show and is bound to go places, I plan on watching it today it seems kinda fun... even if the Op's song is really, really bad. x.o; Other than that, I think it'll do just fine. =p

Remember never compare two things that are similar, you'll just end up disappointed...

I think maybe my biggest problem with the show is that I'm just hoping they don't try to make the show serious. The original was silly, but it was intentionally silly. PPGZ could do the same and I suppose it'd be alright.

Have you seen some of the character art on the website though? They're sticking with the original in that Ms. Bellum doesn't really have a face...but now you can actually see that she doesn't have a face! Rather frightening, I have to say.

Oh, and they made the Mayor taller! He's finally achieved his life-long dream!

When they make a series off a popular franchise they have to expect comparison. Besides, I don't have to like every television series do I? I'm not a fan of every generic Mahou Shouju series, so I'm simply stating why this one puts me off.

I'm not sure that Miss. Bellum is actually missing her face. Yes, I've seen the character art, but like with the original, in PPGZ she simply always has something covering her face, like a notepad.

Remember the episode where everyone gets switched with random people and Blossom becomes Ms. Bellum? It actually shows that she has no face in that episode. Buttercup had to become Professor also, body-hair and all.

I think Bubbles was the Mayor in that one too.

I thought the running joke with Sara Bellum was that she was so tall compared to everyone else, that she never fit on the screen. XD

It is a running joke, but it's not because she's so tall, it's because all that hair of hers covers her face. Whenever they show her head, it's always at an angle so the hair blocks the way.

I wonder if it's the same one I've read. There's an online doujin on the Snafu site (sorry, but I don't remember the exact address) with absolutely incredible artwork. Oddly, Dexter has been the hero more than the Powerpuff Girls themselves. The doujin has a huge collection of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon characters (Invader Zim and Gir!) and a decent story. It's on hiatus at the moment however since the author of it is also making a doujin called Grim Tales from Down Below. It stars Death Junior and Mini Mandy (Death and Mandy got married!? O.o).

The PowerPuff Doujinshi is here: [link]

Grim Tales from Down Below is here: [link]

I agree, they're both amazing. What's really cool to me is that Bleedman doesn't ink his work - as he explains in a tutorial on deviantArt, he just draws in pencil and cleans up the lines in Photoshop.

Well, I can't wait to see it in English or at least fansubbed.

TV-Nihon already finished subbing the first two episodes (all that's aired so far).
