I always <3 this episode no matter what version it was in, I don't mind the voices that much really, and I must be a bad actor because the emotion in this dub=the emotion in the american dub= the emotion in the japanese dub. Seriously, I've seen all three first episodes 20 times, and I didn't find much difference other than the voice RANGE. The range of a voice actor can effect how some lines may be spoken, all you have to do is adjust. These people don't have an American accent, it seems much more nuetral, which is why I'd guess someone wouldn't be used to it say, if they lived in America forever. I know Rushpop would agree with me.
o.o so I have no idea why anyone would complain. Dekao sounds 3 years older than he should, kinda... reminded me of Ryoga for some reason, I have no idea why. o.O; He just sounded 16 compared to his age, not too bad... his laugh is perfect though...
Masa sounded okay too, I dunno why he grates at some people, too spoiled with the other versions, I guess D:
Netto and Rockman were okay with me, they sound younger... which suits just fine.
The way they pronounced EXE as "A-eks-ay" kinda annoyed me though... I think it would be better if they just said the actual letters instead of changing the acronym to a word.
Meiru and Roll= their American counterparts, so I can't complain there. They sound a bit older than Netto's mom, though.. XD
Anything else... I never liked the line "Attack mode"/"Battle Chip Attack Mode", it seemed kinda unneeded. XD
That's all I can say about it right now, really... oh...
Hinoken wasn't sexy sounding enough.
And Fireman was a little too android and not enough gruff.
And Wily was okay, I guess.. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=100000142872316

Oh, and why is the Singapore dub in English, shouldn't it be in Malay or Mandarin? |
Singapore has english in their language too.. So... |

Ahhhhh. I looked it up on Wikipedia; English and Malay.
I just got to Hinoken, and his voice is really good! Much better than him being Scottish. _________________

So what you're saying is, it's perfectly fine and reasonable for people to talk about the dub that's already come out in the exact same
(in some cases even HARSHER) way, and me speaking about this second dub in that light is obnoxious.
Well, whatever. It's not like I didn't expect that anyway. But as far as I'm concerned, if people have already been doing the same thing on dubs that actually DO have good voice actings for a ridiculously long period of time, then I should be entitled to my opinion on this as well.
The Meiru thing I'm not gonna doubt you on, since I'm well aware you guys are more adept on translation than I am. That, and I DID apologize in advance to those who didn't want to read the rant. |
It's just the way you phrase things that's obnoxious. Dub bashing IS against the rules, whether it be for the American one or any other version, and to be honest your comments initially struck me as being borderline racist.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion about the dub. (Similarly, I am entitled to say that I do no agree with your statements about the supposed high quality of the American version.) However, being a little less inflammatory about it would probably help.
The show being in English is also a point of interest. I wonder if a version in any other of this world's thousands of languages would generate this kind of controversy. Keep in mind also that Singaporeans are NOT Americans and therefore would have no reason to make a dub similar to NT Warrior's - just because two countries share the same language doesn't necessarily mean they have the same expectations. >.> On top of that, I don't know if it's safe to criticize the dub acting when you have no experience with Singaporean English - how do you know that the "reading off a piece of paper" tone is not actually how people speak there? Or, how can you say for sure that English is the first (or even second, since I believe on top of their official languages, several others are widespread) language of the actors - or the viewers?

May I just point out that Meiru was named "Mayl" in the English games? Even though the "ei" in Meiru is an extended e sound, it still is a phonetic atempt at Mail. Also I asked my teacher today in Japanese and he agreed. With characters called "Net" and "Site", "Mail" isn't that much of a push. _________________

True, but you don't see them calling him "Net" instead of "Netto" in the show. The point Izu was trying to make is that "Meiru" was the correct was of pronouncing her name. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. Aww, I like Mr. Match with the Scottish accent better. But that's just my personal preference.
I'd say that my opinion on this is almost the same as Kirbopher, but a little less. I mean, at least they kept the original names, right? I'm just more use to the American dub, much like how most of you here are more use to raws/subs. _________________ MegaMan Kilobit

Hmmm... well, this was strange, to say the least. I don't remember much of the first season, which I watched subbed anyway, but I remember watching a few dub eps. But I don't remember most of the voices. Except I Mr. Match's Scottish accent (I like that, actually), and Enzan sounding rather old.
For me, though, the problem with the dub wasn't really the voices. It was the massive amounts of edits. Like randomly cutting out scenes, blunting swords (come on, is that really needed?), and didn't they also just plain cut eps for seemingly no reason? Another thing I hated is that they changed some of the names from the game! I mean, the game already changed just about every name from the original and they do ANOTHER name change? I think that's REALLY confusing @_@ And the game names were in most cases, tons better than the dub ones.
I think the dub here was handled horribly, but the problem was much more than the voices. Seems like the Singapore dub doesn't have the same stupid edits, and it has the original names of course. So... that's good. I don't like some of the voices, though. Like Netto's mom and Dekao. But oh well, nothing's perfect. I'd still prefer the subs, in any case.
But hey... when they come out on DVD in Singapore... does that mean you could remove the subtitles? Interesting... |

That's another thing. (Most of) The people around here who watch MegaMan have never see a subbed/raw ep ever ( Like me!) so they don't 'know' how the anime is 'suppose' to be, so that's basically why animes like that do so well here despite their 'horrible' and 'numerous' edits and 'terrible' voice acting/choices.
So, some of us might not exactly... 'like' this version of EXE, but the kids in Singapore most likely won't care since they'll get use to it, like me and so many others who've gotten use to their own dub.
And yeah, nothing's perfect, so you shouldn't have really been expecting something 'good' when EXE came over to America. At least it's decent for some of us. _________________ MegaMan Kilobit

Well, the voices were okay I suppose. Netto sounded a wee bit high to me, but then again, that's how it should be (never really liked Lan's 2nd voice in the NA dub.). Dekao sounded a bit gruff, Meiru and Roll sounded pretty much the same as in the NA dub, Masa I'm neutral on.
Probably cause I'm used to it, but I too prefer Mr. Match's Scottish accent, because, at least to me, he looks Scottish! *bricked from various directions* _________________ ' I don't care if the buzz isn't real- I can roleplay being drunk!'

It never was perfectly fine for anyone to bash any dub. It's clearly stated in the rules, and you of all people should remember your constant back seat modding and "holy dub defender" role that caused you a few warnings alongside those that were dub bashing.
Kirbopher15 wrote: | But as far as I'm concerned, if people have already been doing the same thing on dubs that actually DO have good voice actings for a ridiculously long period of time, then I should be entitled to my opinion on this as well. |
No, nobody here is entitled to be able to dub bash, it's against the rules. As a member that has been here for a while already you should know it's forbidden, and you of all people should know better. We do not admit bashing to ANY DUB.
It's hypocritical of you to lash out at people for bashing the US dub, which you did do in a regular basis, and now you come here to do exactly what you ranted and attacked people for. Reduces ANY validity of your arguments to do such.
You have the right to your opinion. And you have the right to dislike this dub in regards of what you consider to be a better voice acting. But, from that to the clear bashing you're posting here it's a big leap.
You might want to begin and preach with the example. Just because other people have done something like that, doesn't mean you should as well. You're just validating the position of those that bashed the dub you so much defended.
You have had a final warning regarding these issues already. _________________ Hecha en MÉXICO - Avatar by Me.

Forgive me for creating another account. I simply did this to make one last parting word. You may ban this account as well if you wish, but I felt that this was necassary.
First off, I apologize if my critique of the Singapore dub was too harsh. I can see why that would be considered bashing and will accept that. What I'm really here to make one last statement about is this:
Quote: | and to be honest your comments initially struck me as being borderline racist. |
No. Simple as that. Honestly I don't even know WHERE you pulled that from in the first place, aside from me reffering it to the "Singapore version", but even THAT has nothing even REMOTELY prejudice behind it. In the first place, despite knowing other english speakers from several other places, I don't know anyone from Singapore, personally, so there wouldn't be any reason for me to have garnered any 'hatred'. As far as what I was ACTUALLY talking about, race, does NOT matter. All of us know of PLENTY of foreign actors (voice actors or otherwise) in America that have done perfectly fine, and in some cases amazing, jobs in whatever production they're featured in. I've heard there are other Singapore dubs out there of shows we already have, and perhaps some of those are substaintial. I was critiqing this for simply having bad voice acting in general, it had ASBOLUTELY nothing to do with the fact that they were from Singapore in general. Example, if I said I didn't like Rush Hour because I didn't like Jackie Chan's or Chris Tucker's acting skills doesn't translate to being racist (and that's not the case, I DO like them as actors, but that's obviously not the point.) against African-Americans or Asians.
That's all I had to say. Again, I apologize to the admins for making this seperate account. I simply made this post in order to defend myself on that remark. I would rather leave on the terms that I was being aggressive in general, as opposed to having a 'borderline racism' sticker slapped on my face, for something that had, again, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what I was talking about. If it came off that way to you, Izumi, in any way, then I deeply apologize. And again, I apologize for any of my past behavior. I'm not going to hold any sort of vendetta for this since I have no interest in defying the rules you've already set for those who have been removed. I'll still visit the site and look forward to Otakon, but I won't put up a fight against this decision.
So, that's about it. On that note, thank you for your continual efforts to bring those in other countries such in-depth information about the Rockman series in general, and keep up the impressive work.
Sayo~

Mm. I was merely saying that was how I'd initially perceived it; it didn't have anything to do with your ban - Planty already laid out in no uncertain terms what that was about. It's just that you seem to have a prejudice against things with too much non-North-American influence; while it's well within your rights to like whichever version of the show you want, a running theme in your posts has been how great the American version is compared to the Japanese one (going so far as to say imply that the Singaporean version should have used American terminology simply because it was in English); as well as implying or stating outright that no thought was put into the .sg production, the actors were talentless hacks, etc. It seemed very much like a superiority complex to me, and while that may not be the case (note how I'm taking you seriously and replying instead of just reaming you for ban evasion), I thought you needed to be warned that people might take you the wrong way when you get up on the soapbox and "rant", as you put it.
No need to apologize to me about it, I probably shouldn't have said so outright, as it was. It was rather early in the morning, and I was in a rush to reply and get out the door. Still, as noted above, you already had your warning about the dub bashing, and this was the final straw. I for one am appreciative that you took the deactivation maturely, and hope there'll be no hard feelings at Otakon. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*
