First, sorry for the number in the title, the character limit forced me to use it.

I'm not sure what that style of game is really called, but Fable and Brave Fencer Musashi are to of my all time favourite games. So, does anyone know of any similar games worth trying? I don't care how new they are, as long as they aren't MMO (I'm afraid of getting addcitted to those)

Man, Fable was way too short/needed more side missions. I took over a town in that game =D

Action RPG? I believe that you are looking for the Kingdom Hearts games. Those two games are possibly the best Action RPGs on the market, especially KHII. There is also Star Ocean: Until the End of Time. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles probably qualifies as well. Then there are action games with RPG elements (ie, leveling up) like Onimusha games or many of the recent Castlevania games since Symphony of the Night. But if you haven't played Kingdom Hearts II, what are you waiting for? It's still number one in the top ten on Game Faqs for a reason. And if you want to be sure you know the story, play Kingdom Hearts first.

Action RPG's, huh?

I'm afraid I disagree with this one.
FFCC's more on the side of the traditional FF in my opinion.

I haven't heard of Fable, but I did watch my little brother play Brave Fencer Musashi. I agree that the Kingdom Hearts games are the closest similarity with regards to gameplay and battles.

I'd put in Megaman X: Command Mission, but it's still more on the shooting game type than a RPG.

I've some GameCube titles to recommend, but, as you've mentioned you've played Musashi, I guess it's a PlayStation you have.

Hmmm... That's it from me. The rest of the RPG's I know of are more on the traditional side.

FF:CC is most definately an Action Game. The puzzles, the attacks and the timing factor for combining magic in the multiplayer are all very Action Game-esque qualities.

MMX CM is still a traditional RPG, and is in no way a shooter, it just uses mini games for certain abilities to become useful. Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube is a really good game and took me 40+ hours to play. Thats the only other one I can really reccommend aside from Kingdom Hearts.

Oh, that's why!
Me and my brothers and sisters agreed we aren't getting the Xbox, so we don't give much thought to any Xbox-related gaming news.

i figured it was something like that. Fable is an awesome game, though. it's kind of like KOTOR, where you choose what you want to do throughout the whole game and that affects what you look like. i.e. - you kill random citizens, and you look like a devil.

I have to agree with Enzan here. Tales of Symphonia is perhaps one of the best damn RPGs on the GameCube today, and an excellent choice for a GC owner. I began playing it in late April, and even now I still play it at least once a day.

Other RPGs...I've never played Command Mission, though I have heard many great things about it. No others seem to stick out to me...

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree.
That's why I own both a Japan and a US version of it Laughing
I didn't mention it in my earlier post because I thought it leaned closer to traditional RPG's than Action RPG's.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that Tales games were like that. We have Tales of Legendia at home. I stopped playing it though. It stopped being interesting for some reason. Unlike Kingdom Hearts, the action for the battles is side scrolling, though the map exploration is overhead.

there's one a friend reccommended to me, and i played it. it's not really an rpg, but it's kind of like Fable in a sense where you customize your own character. it's called E.V.O. Search for Eden. basically you go through the evolution process, starting out as a fish and progressing to an amphibian, reptile, bird, then eventually mammal. it's a really interesting game, and very fun. you should try it out. it's for SNES, by the way.

I remember that. Twas a truly fun game. My favorite form was that of the bird (simply because it could fly), so I opted not to become a mammal. Only later did I discover how much harder that made the game.

i beat it yesterday by cheating. i made the bird invincible with the best stuff. i like the bird too. i'm going to try to play through without cheating and i'm going to turn into a mammal this time, too.

Unfortunately I no longer have that old PS1 and the only console I currently have access to is my uncles xbox. Although convienently, and completely by coincidence two of my best friend have the other two systems between them. I don't trust myself with a console, I tend to get addicted and do nothing but play the game until I'm completely done with it.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definately try to borrow the consoles, still I wish these types of games were more common. (And that xbox would have more than like 1 or 2 good games on it -.- )

That sounds a bit like Spore, I can't wait that to come out. Gah, damned SNES, they need to make a way for the GBA and/or to play off of old SNES and NES games. Or just remake them all. >>

But yeah, thanks guys. I guess I should definately try for at least <i.Tales</i> and maybe KH (As I think I said, borrowing the GC should be easier than the PS2)

it did sound like Spore, but it's not Spore. Spore is really different from E.V.O. in Spore, you create your own race, but in E.V.O. you create a character, basically. there's only one of you in E.V.O. and also, in E.V.O. you try to become a mate (i guess) to the Earth (a character called Gaia, who "helps" you by turning you into different animals. not very helpful). it's very weird, but definately worth playing at least once.

and, SNES on GBA doesn't work. trust me, i should know.

I never did try being a mammal in EVO. I can't imagine how being constrained to land travel could make the game easier. I saved all the massive accumulation of EVO points to get free healing during the final battle. I think that's what I did anyway. I'd gotten the game used, and the previous owner had a human save. I found the human to be, um, not good. couldn't fight well at all. And too bound by gravity. But yeah, I guess it was an old action rpg, wasn't it?

yeah, it was. i actually did change into a mammal, but i used a save i had before that to turn back into a bird. i didn't really try anything with the mammal, because it sucked.

Being ground restrained does suck, but the bird takes significantly more damage per hit than the mammal does. It's an irritating trade off, but one that may come in handy, particularly if you don't make a fast bird.
