I sent this in a PM to Ryouko, but if I post it here, I can see what everyone else has to say about my idea, so here it is.
Quote: | I was wondering if you could make a Debate forum here at the Rockman.exe Online forums. I really love debating, as do many other people, and I think that not only would it attract more members, but it would make some of the current members even happier as well. I work at a site, and am a member and others, and many sites I go to have one. They are really popular, and think it would be a great addition to the forums. |

I think it'd be good idea; as long as no flame/bashing wars are started. I also am a big fan of debating. _________________

Nice to see that there are people who fully support a debate forum.
I am all for it as well, assuming that one does not already exist. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Eh, I'm mixed on this.
A debate forum would probably be good; yes. It would be refreshing to debate certain points about topics.
However. I also feel that if one was opened, then a lot of the topics wouldn't be too deep or insightful. Seeing as how we have a lot of younger members, there would be a lot of uninformed opinions on some touchy topics and possible flaming. Because sometimes, people don't realize that 'debating != forcing opinion in everyone's face'.
I'll keep my stance on neutral on this. While a debate forum would be nice, I can also see the dangers of it. _________________

Actually, to augment what I said before--
I have run a debate forum before on another site. While I admit that there are risks in running it, the risks actually remain somewhat minor in comparison to what can be gained. Such a forum, in my experience, seemed to be somewhat self-regulating, since the average user tended to be too skittish to post in such topics of deep thought and the same users post regularly, yielding in some high quality discussion. I'd bring up an example, but my time is somewhat limited.
Many times, I am a bit loath to post in topics in the general areas because a quite a few of them do not spark intelligent thought. But when that thought is sparked, it becomes quite nice to read through the points and see other users' points of view.
All in all, I still think that the calculated risk is small enough to allow for the creation and maintenance of such a forum. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! I dont know.... a debate forum would be good, but alot of people may see it as a chance to start flaming other users..... .... so im not to sure.... but I guess it would have to be one of those Trail and Error things to see how well it turns out... but its all up to Ryo but Im happy ether way.... (dont do alot of debate anyway) _________________

Some may not know, but we already have a debate forum of sorts. "The Undernet" is a hidden part of our forum which is only open to those we believe have proven to hold some capacity of holding a coherant conversation. We have found this to be the only way to keep serious or somewhat controversial topics under control.
You have to keep in mind that this is primarily a forum for Rockman. It's general audience is kids, so a good majority of our members are younger. I would rather not get yelled at by parents who find their kids viewing questionable debates or material.
So for now, I will have to reject a public debate forum. If you search on Google, I'm sure you can find plenty of others. If you are interested in being allowed access to The Undernet, feel free to PM one of the Administrators.
Thank you. o/ _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

Although she did spoil our little secret, I think Ryo's got the best point here. Not all the material discussed is suitable to younger members, so having a select entry board is probably the wisest idea. _________________

Why not add a warning to it? If you have a warning stuck there, then its not really your fault if some little kid clicks on the link and gets information he didn't want/need, its his own fault because the warning is there, right? |

It doesn't matter because the parents would probably state that Ryouko was "unresponsible for allowing children to have access." It's like leaving a link to one of those grotesque beheadings in open view with a warning beside it. Curiousity kills the cat and children are no better. :O Jack Thompson can tell you more if you ask him. XD _________________ Slur > j00

That really wouldn't work. A warning is just that, and can be easily be twisted around to point the blame at Ryou if people saw something that they didn't like. Some of the topics in the forum are really sensitive, so it's hidden for good reason.
And although the child would still be at fault even with a warning, blame can be turned around in the eyes of the parents. An example would be when Fanfiction.net still had NC-17 stories available there with proper warnings, and the complaints they got during that time were so numerous from parents that they took them down entirely.
But back on topic. Everyone who does post in the forum is expected to act maturely and debate with an open mind. Some of the topics in the forum are contriversal themselves, and would become flame wars/filled with uninformed opinions if they are put on the other forums otherwise. Like Ryou said, this is the best way of putting these kinds of topics under control. _________________
