Seriously? Is this rockman thing good or whack? It looks a lot like a spin-off of that Megaman game they made in the 80s. Might check it out if it's not a total rip. Thoughts?

I'm going to assume you're asking if the EXE Series (Battle Network Series) is good and how much like the original Rockman games they are. I assure you that, though the EXE series is very much a spinoff from the original games, they play completely differently.

While the classic games are 2D sidescrolling adventure games, the EXE games are more of an RPG experience crossed with CCG (collectable card game) elements. I was sceptical of this new series at first, but when I tried the first game, I was hooked right away. Definately give them a try.

Also, I may be wrong, but you may be slightly confused. Rockman IS Megaman, and vice versa. Rockman is just the original Japanese name of Megaman.

Perhaps you could be more clear about what you're getting at, since there are currently 5 Rockman series in existence (Rockman, Rockman X, Rockman Zero, Rockman DASH, Rockman.EXE).

Wait... five rockman games? Five?

Is Konami OK with this kind of blatant copyright infringement?

I mean, I can understand if it's really, really good. But if I were a game producer that made a successful title for the NES like Megaman, only to find that twenty years later five different people had turned my game in to some crazy Japanese ripoff that has nothing to do with the original.... well, I'd want my money Laughing

Well just for the sake of knowledge, what's a good summary of Rockman? X sounds like something entirely inappropriate, Zero sounds like one of those weird Japanese inside-joke sorta things, DASH is pretty obviously a spin-off from the movie "The Incredibles," and Rockman.EXE sounds like the next lame virus that makes Windoze XP reset after, let's say, five seconds.

...What does Konami have to do with this?

Rockman/Megaman (which is the same thing) is created only by CAPCOM.

Okay... nobody ripped anything off. Let's start with the begining.

Rockman is created by a Japanese vide game company called Capcom. The series starts out on the Famicon (Nintendo Entertainment System in the States). The series continues on and does well.

Eventually, Capcom creates a spinoff series which takes place 100 years after the original games, and this new game is named Rockman X. The series focuses on a wartorn era and developement of the main character named X.

Time goes by, and these series are still doing well. Capcom creates another spinoff series called Rockman DASH. We later learn that this series fits into the storyline several thousands of years in the future.

Keep things rolling and Capcom creates another spinoff series which takes place approximately 100 years after the X Series. It foruses around a character from the X Series named Zero. This new game is titled Rockman Zero.

Capcom makes another spinoff, one which does not fit into the storyline the other enhabit. Rockman.EXE is born into it's own alternate timeline with the internet as the main theme replacing robotics.

There are not 5 games. There are 5 series. There are well over 50 Rockman games if you combine all of these series together. @_@

Ok let's go with some facts:

The original name of Megaman is Rockman. The more purist fans go with the name Rockman wather then Megaman.

Megaman was created by Capcom, not Konami.

Megaman has 5 different series, each series with a different amoutn of games, the names to the left are the american names, while the names at the right are the original Japanese games:

Classic Megaman/Rockman (Rockman 1 2 3 4 5 and 6 come out for the NES/Famicon system, Rockman 7 and Rockman & Forte/Megaman & Bass come for the SNES, Rockman 8 comes for the Playstation)
Megaman/Rockman X (X1 X2 and X3 came out for the SNES X4 X5 X6 come for the PSX, X7 X8 and command missions came for the PS2)
Megaman Legends/Rockman Dash (Dash 1 and Dash 2 came for the PSX)
Megaman Battle Network/Rockman EXE (EXE 1 2 3 4 4.5 5 and Battle Chip Challenge come for the GBA and Transmission came in the GameCube)
Megaman Zero/ Rockman Zero (Zero 1 2 3 and soon 4 came for the GBA)

All 5 series were created by Keiji Inafune a high directive and lead creative of CAPCOM of Japan.

Agreed.

Perhaps if he replies with something nearing intelligence, or reasonable analysis of the information given, I can change my mind. As for right now, looks like we have a troll.

Pretty accurate, but you've got a few mistakes, Core.

Rockman/Megaman X Command Missions - No -s, just Command Mission
Megaman Battle Network 4.5 Real Operation - Doesn't exist
Rockman.EXE 5 / Megaman Battle Network 5
Rockman.EXE 5 / Megaman Battle Network 5 - Forgot the subtitles, but that doesn't matter
Rock/Megaman Battle Network Transmissions = no -s, just Transmission
Super Adventure Rockman isn't PS2, it's for the original PlayStation.

You forgot the classic collection on PS2, GC and soon X-box, WSC release (JP-only) of Battle Chip Challenge (Rockman.Exe GP? I think so), Phantom of the Network (cell phone, JP-only) and Megaman & Bass for GBA.

Also Megaman X4 also came out for the Saturn...so I'm assuming Rockman X4 did too. ;P

Let's think this through.

You come to a board dedicated to a particular series to ask if the series is a rip and/or worth trying. Obviously anyone who posts here is doing so because they absolutely abhor everything and anything that has even the smallest thing to do with the series, and they've all been lurking aorund for the past half-decade waiting for you to stroll by so that they can confirm your suspicions about how bad said series really is. Thank God, the waiting is over! Now we can all go back to our everyday lives.

EDIT: Oh, wait. I just realized you're a complete moron.

Yeah, I'm guessing Harish Rallapali is just here to be a -insert whatever I can't say on this forum here-. He, she, or it as it may be, has clearly ignored practically everything said by anyone in here. I doubt any one could naturally be as stupid as that. Most likely intentional. Probably just trying to make a point about how nerdy Rockman/MegaMan fans are...

Someone please destroy this topic...

I'm going to try and answer some of this guys questions with pretty much just the stlye and possibly story, if he even cares and/or will listen...

Quote:
Well just for the sake of knowledge, what's a good summary of Rockman?

Classic series= Sidescrolling adventure game, with a simple story of evil scientist trying to take over.

Quote:
X sounds like something entirely inappropriate,

How? O.o It's just like Classic Rockman with a darker story, new characters, and some new abilities (still new and fresh though).

Quote:
Zero sounds like one of those weird Japanese inside-joke sorta things,

Actually as PO said it's just a series focused on one of the characters from the X series, but 100 years later. Most people consider it harder than the others.

Quote:
DASH is pretty obviously a spin-off from the movie "The Incredibles,"

How could it be when "The Incredibles" didn't even exist the time the first DASH game was made? Anyway, it's a 3D series in a post-apocalyptic era.

Quote:
and Rockman.EXE sounds like the next lame virus that makes Windoze XP reset after, let's say, five seconds.

Too much stuff to explain, just go to the main site to find out.

I can explain. I actually know this "Harish Rallapalli" personally. The story is, there's this guy I know who thinks it is "funny" to register on as many forums on the internet as possible and try to offend as many people as possible. For instance, he went onto a woman's rights message board, and made very sexist comments about the opposite gender. He went onto a music artist's fan-forum and totally bashed the musical artist. I thought it was stupid, and now I find he's actually hit one of the forums I'm a part of.

This guy is intentionally trying to mess with all of you, and gets his jollies off of your offended replies. I suggest the topic be locked, and the user be banned as well. And I assure you I will talk to this guy and hopefully put an end to his tomfoolery.
