you know, it's a really good idea. i won't use it for two reasons, though. first, i don't HAVE a DS, and second, i just got a PSP today. that's what i'm using to type this, now. and, you know, these forums look really nice on this thing. _________________ just call me xfyre. not xfyrethespooky. |

So how long did it take for you to type that? Typing stuff on the PSP is takes some time.
I don't really have much interest for the web browser. I only used the PSP browser for getting some new wallpaper and pics. I couldn't even play any vids on youtube. Most of the pictures didn't even show up. Oh well, I sold my PSP and DS to buy some 360 games and I'm leeching off my friend's DS to play MMBN6. _________________

hey, if you want updated news on the DS browser, you can go to http://my.opera.com/community/forums/forum.dml?id=1406 they have a lot of great info and will most likely answer most if not all of your questions. which reminds me...i think someone on one of the messageboards said that the browser might not even come over here to the states. i hope that's not true, but i was planning to import mine anyway. oh and um, if that is true, you can always import the european one b/c im pretty sure the browser will be over there (and translated no doubt). _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

There might be pros and cons about it. I was wondering about the keyboards, a pointer, etc. about it. :eyes: _________________ I don't know what to put in here. o_O |

Thanks for the video. In my opinion, it looks like it's a pain. Like when you write something, it would think it's something else.
On the video, what is that warning sign before the end? _________________ I don't know what to put in here. o_O |

no one knows if it will come to the states, but some people are speculating that it actually WON'T. now, you will still be able to browse webpages in english, as long as the URL is in english. for example, capcom.com and capcom.co.jp will take you to the american and japanese pages, respectively. however, all of the menus and whatnot will be in japanese. but then again, you don't really need to know what it says b/c the icons on the bottom are pretty much self-explanatory if you think about it. _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

With my copy of the browser arriving last Thursday and spending one full DS battery life with it Friday, I personally don't see how this can't be released in English-speaking countries :/
The brower starts up with you getting to select what your default keyboard will be:
- Japanese
- English (UK)
- English (US)
- French
- (2 others. Greek and Russian, I think)
The UK and US keyboards differ in the location of the punctuation marks. The letter arrangements are the same as a standard QWERTY keyboard. If you select an English keyboard, the freehand input looks up your handwriting against English characters.
Next to set was a password, in case you don't want anyone else in the house to be able to use this copy of the browser. This one's optional, since we're all responsible adults at home
From there, if it didn't detect any existing wi-fi settings, you're prompted to create one. If you already played Metroid Prime Hunters or Mario Kart previously, it loads the most recently used setting.
From here on out, it's free time. Click on pre-defined bookmarks (Nintendo Japan, Opera Homepage, i-Filter Homepage), or enter the URL of the site you want to go to (click on icon with "URL", then you move to the keyboard entry screen, type in the URL, then click return).
Favorites can be set by clicking on the star icon. Your startup links could be edited there, too.
I managed to check my web mail, but not open attachments that require plugins or other programs. Got to post at the "what else do you collect" thread in "General chit-chat". Got to download an all-text e-book from that gutenberg site, disconnected from the network, and left my DS on so I can read the e-book while on the bus (of course I close it to save battery life).
Parent filter settings exist, too. Instructions for setting those are in a separate booklet. Looks like you have to register at a site first, though.
The downside, to my opinion, is that pages with lots of images slow down page rendering a whole lot. That's easily remedied since turning off images is just one click away. Also, the number at the upper-right of the top screen tells you the total number of images to be loaded and how many are loaded so far. So when I see the image count go past 40 (:! ), I turn the images off.
Right now, it's a good enough tool for my fanficiton-addict siblings to use so those of us with important stuff to do at the computer get to work while the fanfic-ers get to read to their heart's content.
That said, all that would need to be ported, to my opinion, are the menus and the messages, which are all very translatable. If this gets to Europe, why not the US?
Take out the extra language keyboards, perhaps? -.-
Nope, this post isn't from the DS. It's already been taken over by the fanfic-readers. -_-; _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

Wow, what timing! Hopefully I'll be getting a DS light this upcomin Thursday, and the closer that day comes, the more cool things I hear.
I'll definitely keep my eyes open for this. There are quite a few hotspots in my town so I'll really be able to make use of this feature.
Now I'm really excited! *can't wait till payday* _________________ Life's too short to take seriously, so walk your path with a bright smile and a light heart.
