The official slogan for PlayStation 3 in Europe: "This is Living".

The seductive, ludicrously shiny black casing of PS3, marked with the iconic lettering of the PS3 logo, disintegrates into a thousand pieces before re-forming into a bold, bubbly font spelling the words This is Living, a logo in itself which beats like a heart twice 'up-close' and then twice 'distant' (repeat)...

The sequence, which you can see in its entirety below, was revealed in Germany last week at the Leipzig Games Convention, in between a line-up of updated trailers (see them in HD here) at Sony's public booth. Yet, despite some 150,000 consumers and 2,000 journalists being present at the event, the first evidence of the slick branding seems to be on this very page.

A SCE European representative today confirmed to Kikizo that the slogan is the final European PS3 slogan to be used for launch marketing. This presumably includes the UK but SCE UK could not confirm this for sure at the time of press. The SCEE spokesperson added that he could not confirm whether North America and Japan would use their own slogans (which seems likely).

info taken from: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200608/143.asp

I first thought of the Dreamcast slogan, "It's thinking" but then realized they're pretty much saying you haven't lived until you've played a PS3.

Pretty arrogant Sony. Try not to mess **** up. :<

yeah, it is a bit late for that, Pyo. i mean, making the PS3 $600 just killed even some of the hardcore Sony fans.

Heh.

This is pretty much arrogance at its best. Even though the slogan seems simple, the implications of the phrase make the slogan that much more...apparent as an attempt to lure the less informed in.

Yeah, the PS3's market price was the first and perhaps only mistake they made. Coupled with the lack of particularly interesting games for the launch, it looks like this is another nail in the coffin.

Or we may be pleasantly surprised and it'll shoot off. I'm thinking the former is a lot more likely, though.

The irony is that the Wii's virtual reality-esque is closer to living the games than the PS3. I mean, yes, I have seen some of the PS3's screen shots, and a few of them looked very much like live-action footage. Yes, a good accomplishment. But between the $600 price tag and Kaz (spelling?) Hirai going around telling everyone that there will be a number of PS3 games going past their previously stated $59 price, all those pretty graphics are coming at a fairly hefty cost.

And if previous cutting-edge-but-deliriously-costly products that went bust have taught us, you can't just expect people to be willing to throw their money at you for something like that.

Lol, I know right? I'm sure tons of people want PS3s but the price tag is just scaring them away. Most of them will wait for a price drop, which would probably take 4/5+ years before it goes down to a decent price. Thank God I was born in November otherwise I'd be in the same problem as most people. Laughing

People already knew that they were arrogant when they started saying:
"It's probably too cheap."
"Five million will buy it, whatever it is, even if it doesn't have games."

PSM: Sony and Microsoft seem to be taking the exact same path.

Hirai: We seem to. Every time we go down a path, we look behind and they're right there - we just can't shake these guys. I wish that they would come up with some strategies of their own, but they seem to be going down the path of everything we do. If you look at their strategy in other business areas as well, they tend to do that.
----------
Putting that stuff aside, one of the main problems here is not just the price, but rather the consumers also. They look at the PS3 as just a gaming console and therefore they cannot justify $600. What would you use a PS3 for? Internet? Blu-ray movies? Music? ...Games??? Yes. Games.

I for one don't really want a Blu-ray player for movies, but I do like the Blu-ray discs for games because they can hold more data. I believe it was 25GB for single layered and 50GB for dual layered. It's already been said that Resistance: Fall of Man is already 22GB.

I'm pretty sure Kaz is 100% high when he speaks in public. MS copying Sony? It's hard to copy what's not there, considering the PS3 isn't even out yet, and we can't compare games or graphics or capabilities.

I'll be honest. They're getting a little too ridiculous with the freakin' price tag.

Honestly, when I buy a gaming system, I want to play games. I have almost never used my PS1 as a CD Player. I never used my PS2 (at my Dad's) as a DVD player. So, do I reeeeally think I'm going to use a PS3 for anything other than games? No.

We're getting at that point where graphics do not matter. The race that begun with the PlayStation and N64 is coming to a close, because when you face it, you really don't need more power in your machine. Sure, it looks nice. But will flashy graphics persuade me to dish out more money for a good game when I can get a perfectly good game for a Wii, at a much cheaper price?

This is why I like Nintendo. They don't focus totally on graphics but on high-quality games. Other gaming companies would be wise to do the same.

I don't care how damn sexy your machine looks. I want a freakin' game.

I still don't understand why people use the word "sexy" to describe inanimate objects! Whatever happened to words like "sleek" or "stylish" or, dare I say it, "cool"?

And no, I'm not yelling at you, Pyroman, you just happened to bring it up.

Honestly, I'm just glad more people are finally seeing Sony's general arrogance. For years, Sony has built an empire out of exploiting and tricking its customers. But whenever you try to mention it to other people, they just can't understand where you're getting these ideas. But now that the Sony Empire has bet the farm on its PS3 Death Star, I'll enjoy seeing the Nintendo Rebels blow it up with their nimble little Wii. (And I do believe I should be credited for just making most bizzare metaphor ever. Laughing )

I also heard, from Attack of the Show (G4) that productions for a PS3 have now just recently been started.

Or something like that.

You get what you paid for. When people waste $600 on a PS3, they will NOT be getting a gaming console in return. They can use it as a gaming console but in reality it's a multimedia hub.

Apparently graphics is a huge factor nowadays in gaming. A game with good graphics will capture the eyes of many. Call of Duty 2 made WWII games look new again. I bet Nintendo would have focused on HD gaming but the fact is, most of the people don't have HDTVs. Smart move. The only reason the Wii is so cheap is because it's not a powerhouse like the 360 or PS3. Nintendo is competing with companies that sell other things besides gaming consoles. Nintendo does not sell TVs or computers so they rely solely on their game machines.

My PS2 and DS Lite look extremely sexy, thank you.

Well, I also think that the price is just waaaay to high for costs. Since (mostly) the PS2, game systems are used less for games *coughpspcough* and more for other things we can do already with something else. And as Pyro said with the graphics, sure it may appeal visually and sometimes impresses me, but as someone who plays alot of old games like me, I realized that alot of the games of today were highly based on graphics rather than gameplay.

Some people ask me if I'm gonna buy one but I simply respond with a big NO because of the extremely high price. Besides, if I get a Wii, I can buy some games I missed or lost for less than $10.

It seems like every console (Minus Wiiiii~~~!) wants to not just be a gaming console anymore, but the centerpiece of your living room. Of course, to us that already have CD players/Stereos, and DVD players and whatnot, that's pretty silly. It also seems like Sony is preparing for the long run. I can almsot gaurantee that Sooooo many more poeple will have HDTVs by...2011. Or maybe even 2010. Then the PS3 will finally click with people and they'll be like "oshi-!!"

Of course, this is assuming they don't lose so much money that they can't afford to make more consoles =P

So true. I share my friend's 360 and we just use it to play games or watch DVDs. We don't need most of the Media Center. Sony is just using the PS3 as a way to advertise Blu-ray. "Why buy a $999 Blu-ray Player when you can buy one for $499 or $599?" some might say. The success or failure of Blu-ray will determine the outcome of the PS3. This is basically the same thing with the PSP; failure of UMD movies. If Blu-Ray succeeds, the PS3 will attract the millions of people who won't use the PS3 as a gaming console. I do know quite a number of people who uses their PS2/XBOX for a DVD player and nothing more.

I don't care how powerful your graphics engine is. I don't care how real it looks. I don't care that you crammed a blu-ray player into your console. I don't care if it has a media center, I already have a PC. I don't care if your console works with HDTVs.

All I care about ina gaming console is games that are.... FUN. Nintendo gives me that without trying to sell it on eye-candy. Nintendo tries new things to improve gameplay, not graphics.

I will buy a Wii and several games at launch, because they look fun, not because they look pretty. In all likelyhood, I will never so much as touch a PS3 or XBox360.
