While I'd never pay that much for a system, I never thought I'd pay $200 for a PSP, either. Sometimes good games make me screw reason. I, for one, do use my Playstation2/PSP for the gimmicks on top of the gaming, even though I do have a DVD player or computer or whatever else nearby, just because I like having something that's all in one. Yes, I'd rather have them focus more on the actual games, but if the device as a whole seems worth it, I can't fault them for trying, in order to sell more machines. _________________ Avatar art thanks to toberboobap, animated gif thanks to Dr. Wily II

All I care about ina gaming console is games that are.... FUN. Nintendo gives me that without trying to sell it on eye-candy. Nintendo tries new things to improve gameplay, not graphics.
I will buy a Wii and several games at launch, because they look fun, not because they look pretty. In all likelyhood, I will never so much as touch a PS3 or XBox360. |

I think when you tend to focus on other things besides gaming, now that I think of it, it really detracts from the attention you give to the gaming console itself. I'm not expecting much from PS3 at all aside from pretty graphics, and that's why I'm sticking to the Wii. (Since the 360 really hasn't proved itself very good at all, honestly.) |

But what would you care about in a multimedia system? Because that's what the 360 and PS3 truly are. Even Nintendo is starting to pull away from its roots by adding non-gaming material on the Wii and DS. Both will have a web browser but it's not like many people will use it because we already have computers.
Good luck getting a Wii at launch. It's obvious the Wii will have the highest demand when October comes along. If I were you, I'd just buy 2-3 Wiis and just sell them for twice as much on E-bay. People could do the same thing with PS3 and get better results.
The slogan "This is living" IMO belongs to the Wii. Most of the people in the world aren't rich. The average person is most likely to get the cheapest thing so they won't waste so much money. That is living. _________________

I suppose. At least Nintendo isn't rushing to get their console out, which was a bad move on MS's part. They just haaad to get it out before the holidays. :/ I was going to get a Wii at launch too only because of Zelda but like lots of people in life, I too have problems concerning money. -_-
Kaz, and whoever else in Sony that boasts, needs to take Adam Sessler's advice: Just shut up.
The TGS is Sony's last chance. They better have a good presentation is all I'll say. _________________

Nintendo does one thing and they do it well. That's another reason why everyone's getting a Wii. |

Honestly, if it's a good game I don't care. The fact is in the last set of consoles Nintendo in Australia, and from what I hear other western countries, marketed the Gamecube very poorly. Not only that but the restrictive region coding system means that I can only play PAL games which results in half of the GCN lineup being Nickelodeon games, and the other half being Nintendo (and I kid you not, I could take a photo to show you how trashy it is; I haven't bought a GCN game for nearly a year since Fire Emblem). Microsoft does do a bette job marketing here and their selection of games is much better; even if I don't like the predominant genres. Let's not forget the PS3 which is overly priced, but it supposedly doesn't have region coding. It doesn't matter how good the console is if the games themselves aren't fun, and more importantly if I can't actually play them. I fully intend on getting a Wii straight away as there are plenty of games lined up that interest me and look great, but I won't dismiss XBox 360 or PS3 either, the 360 does appear to a few good ones coming up (Viva Pinata piques my curiousity) and as for the PS3, I can't say until more is confirmed. Besides Sony has crappy starter line-ups anyway, the gems come later usually since games take time to develop and developers need to explore the creation tools and the limits of the system.
The whole general message behind that was:
1. Games are far more important than the console and being able to play them more so.
2. Wait a while after to release to make a final judgement (and a price drop). >.> _________________

It's interesting how many people say they're going to be waiting for a price drop for the PS3, when there's a good chance that won't be coming for awhile, if at all. Why? Because the fact is, if they lower their price, Sony will be taking a major loss. They won't be making too many sales at first, and unless they raise the price to make up for the initial lack of sales, they'd have to sell a hell of alot of PS3s. In the year since the PSP was released, has Sony reduced that price at all? And the PSP even did moderately well. (Not as good as the DS, but that's beside the point. ) The only real reason they would lower their price is if they were selling well, and they wanted to keep sales good by steadily keeping purchases coming in. From GameFAQs polls to the general opinion here, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
So here's the big question: are the people who are holding out for a PS3 willing to wait a year or more to by a console that likely wouldn't survive for a few years beyond that. Not to mention Sony's shoddy production will likely mean you'll have to pay that $599 twice, once for the console and again to replace it once it screws up. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

The way things are, looks like a 3~5 year wait before considering buying a PS3 is a smart move.
I bought my PS in 1998, with my first ever Christmas Bonus. If I'm not mistaken, it was the 5th year since the PS first came out. What made me finally buy one was FF7, and the recently released auto-voltage model.
Maybe the same will be true, when a revolutionary game comes out on the PS3.
But I doubt any revolution in gaming could be called "living". They should have stuck with "a whole new gaming experience", or thereabouts. _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

As for the price matter HeatShadow, it'll take me that long to save up for a PS3 after buying a Wii; 1k AUD DOES take a while to amass you know. That also gives me time to see what games are coming out further down the track. _________________

Now that I think about it, the slogan "This is living" IS the right slogan for the PS3. =O Think about it, the PS3 is actually just the icing on the cake. Not all of us live in mansions so we won't experience the same style of living as they would. This is living for the average person.
Now this is living as in....living rich.
I may have lots of expensive stuff in my room but it doesn't even compare to that. As Kojima said, the PS3 is like a home theater (expensive as hell), the XBOX360 is like a DVD player, and the Wii is like a TV program.
Now about the games, there's not much to choose from until 2007. That's when, hopefully, most of their most known games are released. In other words: Sequels. Good sequels. They always sell.
Finally, Sony is trying to attract nongamers also. Nongamers do not want XBOX or Wii because they don't like games, obviously. They need Blu-Ray to succeed so that nongamers will buy the PS3 as their Blu-Ray player. In the best situation, the majority of people will use the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player instead of a gaming console. XBOX and Wii are relying only on the gamers. Whether hardcore, casual, loyalists, etc. Sony needs all their supporting companies to make their movies on Blu-Ray ONLY. If there is a huge shift in format, people are more likely to purchase them. _________________

I'm sure that is something close to Sony's actual intent for the slogan. I prefer to see it the "living in a cardboard box because you spent your rent money on a ps3" kind of way, lol. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

A "k" is a thousand, Unknown Neo. Sounds about accurate for the Australian exchange rate, as well. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

D'oh! I knew that. But still, a thousand is a lot. Even if it is 600 USD. |

600 USD is a lot, too. i doubt the casual gamer (kind of like me) will want to go for it, seeing as it's way too expensive.
the next system i'm going to go for is the Wii. and if it's $200, i'm going to party. :] _________________ just call me xfyre. not xfyrethespooky. |

Close; I've heard the number $250 being thrown around alot. That was around E3 though, so that might have gone up or down since then. _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover

Actually, the most recent number I'd heard was $170, as a direct conversion from the suspected price in yen. Since things never really convert over cleanly, the guesstimate is a around $200. _________________ (\ ºvº\ (\

and I quote IGN
IGN wrote: | Nintendo's new Wii console could be yours later this year for less than expected. Tokyo-based Nikko Citigroup has issued a report on Nintendo's rising stock price, and between all the jargon is the financial institution's forecast that the Wii will carry a Japanese price point of 19,800 yen.
Current exchange rates would put an equivalent US price at $170.00. However, console prices rarely convert according to exchange rates. At most, we can probable take this report to indicate an anticipated US price of under $200.
Nikko Citigroup previously forecast a 25,000 yen price for the Wii. The firm arrived at the new, lower price point based on its expectation that Nintendo will be able to procure the Wii's CPU for less than expected.
This report is just another prediction by a financial institution and shouldn't be taken as confirmation of the Wii's price. For now, the official Nintendo word is that the system will be sold for under 25,000 yen in Japan and $250 in America. Final details are expected in September. |
so there is a good chance for the Wii being sold for under $200, but thats dose not mean the Wii won't be around $200 dollars when it comes out.
as of right now I'm just sitting back and looking at the games that will be released for the Wii and waiting for any announcement on the Release Date and Price.. _________________

Mmm, now that's nice. You could buy 3 Wiis for the price of one PS3, or two 360s. Er, not that you WOULD, but... _________________ Stuck In The Middle With You; a Metroid and Halo crossover
