I'm thinking about getting Final Fantasy Advent Children in English for my birthday with my money. Should I, or should I not? I mean, is the English version better, or worse? >_<;

Buying DVDs are so ...old. I would just download AC instead of wasting cash on it. Either save it on the computer or just watch it on youtube or wherever.

Yeah, and I'd totally go against that message. If you are a fan, of course you should support the franchise and actually buy the DVD!

I assume by your wording, Chibi, you have seen either a fansub or the Japanese version raw. In terms of content, I don't think anything really got cut from the English version compared to the Japanese. The voice acting is still very good, I personally liked Mandy Moore's Aeris over Mena Suvari's, but since she has such few lines, no biggy. There are some lines that are a bit off, but for the most part, it's in tune with the Japanese dialogue. There are some extras on the DVD, nothing really to get excited about, but informational at least. More thrilling than the special bonus disc I got that's just a super long look at Rachel Leigh Cook, Steve Burton, and Mena recording lines. And of course, buying the DVD, you'll get to see the great CG work in much higher definition than a sub or the PSP versions. It is definitely not a waste of money for a FF fan, for someone who appreciates the hard work it takes to create those brilliant CG effects, and of course, anyone who loves Uematsu's awesome soundtrack. It is in no way worse than the Japanese version. BUY IT!!

I would get it. The only reason would be so that i could watch it in Jappanesse, because the english version is really stupid. If you like FF VII, get the movie, but don't get it if it costs more than twenty bucks.

Because shelling out money to support the industry is obviously only for us old-timers.

Dude, listen up. I don't care if you download movies/games/shows/whatever. What I DO care about is if you feel entitled to do so. Buying DVDs is a way to support the industry, and just dismissing it off saying "I can always download it later for free," isn't right. Support the actors and the people who made the movie or whatever.

To be frank, I'm not liking your attitude concerning commercialized products, as I've seen before with your other posts. The suggestion of you even thinking that buying DVDs is beneath you is baffling. In any case, she asked for opinions on Advent Children and whether she should get it, not how about getting it.

Anyway, to try and bring this topic on track again...I would get it if you're unsatisfied with the ending of FFVII, or just want to see what happens in the future of Cloud. I wasn't TOO impressed with the voices (from what I've heard and watched, anyway), but it's a good time killer. Although some parts were just utter fanservice (like the whole movie was *shot*).

In short, yes, I would get it if only for the graphics. I think you might also want to watch it if you plan on playing Dirge of Cerberus in the future, as well.

Unless Mexico got a whole different version, which I doubt or it would have been dubbed in spanish; the English DVD release of the movie comes with audio in both, Japanese and English. I haven't bought it, but I rented it just a mere two weeks ago or so and the DVD came in Japanese and English with subtitles in a load of different languages.

So, I'd say if you can confirm that the DVD comes with audio in both languages, then get it. If you don't like the english version you can always switch the voice track to japanese.

Also, I'd like to strongly remind to our users the following rule:

The movie was good but the cinematography made it hard to follow action scenes in my opinion.

Good, but not great. It got extra points with the fans for featuring characters they all knew and loved though (myself included I admit).

I have heard something that we all might want to look into

Apparently at the Tokyo Game Show '06, apparently Square Enix has shown a trailer for what they called "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete" in which is suppose to have more bonus materials and a new (possibly a director's) cut version of the movie with new scenes added to the film, as reported there was scenes shown in the trailer like a extended fight scene with Cloud and [spoil:54b4a720f4]Sephiroth[/spoil:54b4a720f4].

For the real gritty on this, look it up on Gamespot.com in there TGS '06 Coverage.

My question....will we see a U.S. release?

I am assuming that you thought the dub DVD is English audio only, right? Because I had a list of opinions that I can use to counter that statement if you think a DVD with English audio AND Japanese audio is too expensive if more than 20 dollars. >_>;

Anyway, around 27 dollars isn't a bad buy, really; last trip I went to Taiwan, I saw it for around 30 bucks or more. Besides, comparing that to the Japanese DVD price, it's a big save. :P

Well, can't speak for Angelfan, but I'd say the same, really. Most Hollywood blockbusters that come out as new releases are typically just $19.99, at least they are in my neck of the woods. I was at Target yesterday and when I was in the movies section, this thread crossed my mind. It was still just $16.99 regular price there. I got my copy of AC for $14 on sale during it's release week. $27 isn't a horrible deal (hoping that was including shipping) but when it's something at most stores that sell vids, you never want to feel like you've overpaid. It's not as hard to find as other dual audio foreign films are. I'm sure that's all Angelfan meant with that part of his comment. Anyways, enjoy your purchase, Chibi.

I'd say yes, if you played the game and loved it, that is. The animation is beautiful, but the story is the generic good guys saves world thing. I loved FFVII and the movie.

While I, myself, understand that rule clearly, perhaps it should be clarified a little, as warez generally refers to ill-gotten applications and many people may not know the term. Maybe something along the lines of "No discussions involving pornography, hacking, mod chips & the like, or illegal downloading; including programs, cracks & serial numbers, video game ROMs, music, movies, etc."
Just my two cents.

As for Advent Children, while I haven't purchased a copy myself, the movie is fantastic. I'd highly recommend grabbing the DVD. The real DVD is not only better quality (even if you download a DVD rip, most people don't have dual-layer DVD burners, so that's cutting the quality in half, right off the bat), and you'll have the added bonus of a very pretty case and disc, as well as all the special features and such goodies... and besides, it's supporting the crew that brought the movie together.
I'd also suggest purchasing the soundtrack... which is simply amazing.
