Before anyone asks, yes, I've already checked GameFAQs and Serebii.net doesn't seem to have what I need.
I have a Golbat I'm trying to evolve into a Crobat. Ever since it reached level 30, it's been trying to evolve, but something's stopping it. I get the evolution alert, the animation starts, and then all of a sudden it stops and all I get is a question mark; the game literally states "...?" This has been happening every time it's a gained a level since then with the exact same result each time.
Now, granted, I'm not sure if its affection level is high enough yet. But if it isn't, why am I still getting the evolution alert? Is there something additional I'm required to do before it can evolve? An item I need to give it? I've just finished the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town, if the problem is a story event I have yet to reach. I'm a Pokemon veteren, but to be honest I'm baffled. If it's trying to evolve, what's stopping it?

Huh...from my very limited Pokemon knowledge, is it holding an Everstone, by chance? It is easy enough to overlook it.
Other than that, I don't really know.

| You do not have the National Dex as of yet. When you acquire it, it will successfully evolve - until then, any evolutions from a Kanto to a Johto pokemon such as Scyther -> Scizor will not occur. |
