Ryuusei Ep. 4 Talkback: Who ya gonna call?...(Spoilers)

Virus Busters!

I'm sorry, but SO many "What the...?" moments in this episode. Like was discussed near the end of the last talkback, the fusion is indeed called Rockman. So we get a henshin with the Stream cross fusion henshin background! What the...? War Rock's head still talks away when they are fused? What the...? And Rockman can phase through physical objects like buildings! What the...? I did like the art and some of the animations alot for Rockman, though. The "battle" music...not so much. At least not to the level of any of the EXE themes.

The police arrive on the scene with giant vacuum cleaners and suck up viruses like the Ghostbusters do with their proton packs. What the...? Where's Bubbleman as the Stay Puff/Slimer creature?! First Lupin and Inspector Gadget. What other old show do you want to rip off in this series?! Please tell me a Care Bear connection is coming up. Strawberry Shortcake? Super strength Rockman saves the day a few times with some cute scenes.

Then, one last virus battle to introduce how Rockman will use battle cards. War Rock's head eats them. CHOMP! Sounded more like he was choking on it, but I guess it was a chomp. Yet again, WHAT THE...?! War Rock's head becomes a vulcan gun and he's still talkin' away to Subaru. After setting a radio wave road on fire, end fusion, and begin the "Hey, kid, did you see where this 'Rockman' went to?" "No, officer, I don't know anything."

Fun to see some action, with the pace picking up and I did like a lot of the Rockman art in this eppy, but seriously, it's going to be hard not laughing every time War Rock eats a tasty battle card. Frosted Battle Cards! They're magically delicious! Smile

Sigh, I guess it had to come to this eventually. After three real good episodes this one really let me down. The animation looked strange in comparison to the earlier ones and not as detailed.

This entire episode just didn't appeal to me for some reason. This episode featured the first real battles and introduces us to Rockman's powers.
It just.... well it just felt not good. IMHO this episode really suffered from the 10-minute length. Subaru's transformation sequence was underwhelming, the part were Subaru had to get used to his powers and were he saved Luna and his friends were nice but after that it gets weird.
I thought I already saw some weird stuff in Rockman-exe but this still surprised me. A talking head on your left arm who also eats battle cards? A head which can also transform and still keeps talking? I am in a bad mood and tired at the moment so maybe I am just too harsh.

Anyway, because I am tired I could have judged this episode harder then I should. But frankly I am disappointed. I liked the scenes between transformed Subaru and Luna when they were talking as well as pushing the officer aside. At the end for me personally this episode didn't deliver. I don't know what I did expect, but not this. They could at least have stretched it out over two episodes. It just felt underwhelming and uninteresting and yet also rushed, I am sorry to say it. By using two episodes to introduce Rockman's powers they could have made the events more intense. I am probably just overreacting right now though.

Maybe tomorrow after a good night sleep I could be more positive about it but on this moment there is very little for me to look out for in the next episode.

Don't have much to say on the episode itself... didn't like it as much as the previous episodes, but as far as a virus fight episode goes it was decent IMO.

I love the Warrock handpuppet thing though.

The episode was so-so to me, but at least the action kept me entertained for the most part. Good grief Subaru (Rockman) is like a mini-superman almost. He can fly, lift giant train cars and whatnot. I agree the nine minute episode length hurt this one. The virus battles were neat, but more time was needed to work the details.

Subaru is superman because he is now no longer a Human. He can phase through walls because his body is now made of intangible radio waves. He can fly because the laws of gravity no longer affects him in the way it would affect us, because he is made of radio waves. He has super strength because WarRock channels his strength through Subaru. And WarRock can still talk because he feels like it.
And all this coming from a person who hasn't even seen the episode. Laughing

I tell you, I have a weird, twisted sense of logic.
Weird stuff I have heard: WarRock eating battle cards: Well he has to get them somehow. Laughing

WarRock still speaking while transformed: Well...I don't know. I never expected that. I always imagine a scene where WarRock is talking and all of a sudden gets cut off mid-sentence because he transforms into something else. Maybe it has something to do with him "eating" the cards.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but this talk of how Warrock can talk while fused seems a little silly to me. After all, navis were still able to talk to their net-ops while they were cross-fused, right?

But eating Battle Cards, ugh, I have to see it to believe it, but no amount of logic could make that seem feasable. I did wonder how the card's data would be activated though, and the idea works, but....

When Rockman/Subaru passed through the wall, I couldn't help but wonder if people could actually see him. Then he saved Luna and that confirmed for me that he is still, in fact, very visible.

So now Subaru has a secret superhero identity. How cliche.

I see WarRock talking to Subaru the same way I see Rockman talking to Netto in CF. Its all in their heads, or more accurately, right on their ears.

Just because his head is on Subaru's arm during Radio Conversion (should we decide to abbreviate that RC), doesn't mean that's where the voice Subaru hears is coming from. The whole mouth moving thing could just be an illusion to not freak Subaru out any more than he is already. Or, the writer/directors messed up. The latter is more probable, but breaks the fourth wall.

i personaly loved this episode. I like the action, no boring fighting, constantly moving (unlike exe, which had lots of still shots). The animation was also good too. The art style is steadly growing on me more and more. ^_^

Would you be more scared of a random voice in your head or having a fiery green haired head with razor like teeth talking where your hand used to be, tuxdev? I'd be more freaked out with the latter. I know it shouldn't be any different than how Cross Fusion was for communication, but this was just...too weird. I doubt it's any illusion, I'm pretty sure he's got full control of his mouth to talk, especially since he has to munch on them tasty battle cards. He kinda took control there.

*snickers @ War Rock's talking head* He dragged Subaru with him *snickers*

The only thing I don't get so far is this: Why does War Rock need to fuse with Subaru in the first place? They may have explained in the talking part of it, but I don't understand Japanese... though I am readin the dictionary! From what I saw, War Rock seemed prefectly capable of deleting Viruses on his own. *confused*
