I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of a lot of things in Ryusei as well.
It seems like this timeframe has done away with the usefulness of navis at all considering Transers can delete viruses automatically by just inserting the battle card, and one could almost compare the absense of navi usefulness to a sort of "genocide." That's almost disturbing.
Furthermore, all you gotta do is slide a battle card and it seems to automatically do away with a virus with little effort. What's the point of Subaru transforming into Rockman when he can just slide cards? And furthermore, War-Rock can just dash over and delete them himself. Why's he need to fuse with Subaru at all?
And how the heck are these viruses working? Even though they're radio waves, they seem like physical beings from the way they're destroying the physical world around them. It'd be one thing if they were infecting machines, causing malfunctions that lead to the destruction of physical objects. But, no... they're literally battering and drilling away at physical objects to destroy them.
So, does that mean the viruses are basically invisible beings? Wouldn't people, like... feel them? And shouldn't there be a lot more virus problems than this? I mean, it seemed like a casual annoyance when Subaru stopped them in his mother's AutoMeal machine. And if they were such a common, dangerous threat, shouldn't people be more heavily armed to deal with them? Is THAT why battle cards are so automatic and powerful? And if that's the case, why didn't anyone save Luna?
And finally, I was always under the impression that, by transforming with War-Rock, Subaru was converted into radio waves, hence his ability to travel along the radio wave road... and thus, as a radio wave, no one could see or feel him, just like viruses (assuming viruses couldn't be "felt," which the anime seems to be defying). But how is it he's able to interact with both radio waves and physical objects? Is that the power he gains from being half FM and half human? That just doesn't seem to be logical. And when he fights viruses, does it look like he's fighting air to those who can't see viruses?
Things just aren't making a whole lot of sense right now.
But I definitely don't mind that Subaru is getting real recognition for his heroic acts. 209 episodes and it doesn't seem like Netto or Rockman got an ounce of recognition for, you know, SAVING THE WORLD.
Overall, though, enjoyable episode. It makes those 3 episodes of building-up finally feel worth it. Let's go somewhere with the story now!! _________________

Rockman kinda looked like Forte GS. You know, a head on your hand thing going on there.
And a ghost busters rip? Looks like someone's gonna get the short end of the lawsuit ~_~

Oh yeah. Keibu is a rank equivalent to a Police Inspector (yes, just like Zenigata ).
He mentioned his name in this episode though. "Goryouda" or something that sounds like that.
Hehe, this series is leaning more towards Superman than Rockman

Well, I watched the episode again this morning and I am feeling a bit more positive about it. Still, this episode isn't as good for me as the last three. I still feel that the animation looks a bit strange and not as detailed as the last ones. I guess I can get used to the talking Warrock head but it looks weird. Oh well, maybe after a few episodes I won't even notice it anymore.
Despite the fact I am feeling better now in contrast to last night the episode still feels underwhelming and rushed to me. I can't explain it but I expected the writers to do more with the potential they had in introducing Rockman's powers and two episodes covering that would have been better IMO. I am wondering if the 10-minute time limit could hurt future episodes. It certainly did with Beast+.
I am looking forward to see Subaru's/Rockman's transformations later in the series and I will keep following these episodes, the next ones could be very interesting, especially (future episode spoiler) [spoil:ba002f3306] when the new FM's are introduced and mr. Decaf gets Cygnus.[/spoil:ba002f3306] _________________ This great avatar is made by Synchro-kun. Thank you! |

Well, this episode wasn't bad; not by a long shot. I actually found it quite enjoyable... Especially where Luna gets smitten for RC RockMan. (Peter Parker Syndrome, anyone?) Note that I'm only calling him RC RockMan to distinguish him from our original ol' RockMan.
Now here's a question for you: Do Battle Cards come in different flavors?
Alright, in all seriousness; I don't feel at all let-down after the three episode suspense build-up. Sure the episode had it's hokier parts, but since I actually called the talking Buster Head I don't mind them so much. I was a little relieved that they didn't give Subaru a five-minute henshin sequence. And yeah, the Battle Card eating was a little weird, but at least they didn't recycle the Cross Fusion method of just scrolling the card onto the screen; that's fine with me.
Overall, I give this ep. a 7/10 _________________

WarRock doesn't just seem to have control over his own head, he seems to have control over Subaru's entire left arm. :O freaky. Yet oddly amusing.
Yes. WarRock seems perfectly able to handle the Viruses on his own. Just as Subaru is (though Subaru seems slightly more fragile). However, I think the Denpa Henkan is simply a more efficient way. The two of them as one can delete more viruses than either one of them could individually.
Yummy! Battle Cards! ^_^ _________________

Personally, I think it merely gives them the ability to phase-shift, since Subaru is matter and WarRock is radio-data. Next Subaru is pretty damn fragile in his normal state (and seemingly everything, for that matter). He can't even travel around as quickly as WarRock. Those three things taken together, merging would be of mutual benefit to Subaru and WarRock.
Now, I personally really enjoyed this episode. Way better than Axess episode 1, in terms of presenting the main character's transformation. While both episodes made it clear that the character's were treading on new ground, R-Rockman adjusted almost absurdly quickly (no doubt due to Netto understanding Rockman.EXE's abilities pretty well). I love how Subaru wasn't quite sure what to expect.
True, perhaps none of the concepts presented here in and of themselves are quite original (heck, even the talking parasite-head partially controlling the main character's arm was present in some manga I've seen), but their contexts and implementation paint a very original setting and a fairly original story as a whole. |

Someone else mentioned this on another thread, but this series seems a lot like a Rockman version of Danny Phantom. If you think about it, it makes sense. _________________ It's not easy being green!... Or small..... or... the youngest in the family.......... |

Luna isn't that bad. Her hair reminds me of a easily lvl 4 rank-able boss(easy like the rhino) And she likes our hero. But I'd to know who those other girls in the opening are. We see one girl character that seems like a FM thing. So would that make her a "Rockin" Roll? But antenna-head cop seems interesting. The cards are too but you'd think the weapon would go on his other hand. This may not be so bad now. |

I have a few explainations for that, as in I've been wondering the same and tried to find some answers. It is unclear to us if WarRock and the wave viruses are made of radio waves or several kind of waves. If that were to be the second, they could be made of x rays, gamma rays, electromagnetic waves and so on... and in particular electromagnetic waves could cause great havoc to an electrically-controlled world. Circuit interferences are bad, hmkay? And gamma and higher frequency rays can excite matter a real lot and damage it. So that could be why Subaru ran away, people don't like having their feet hit by gamma rays.
Subaru is indeed capable of converting into radio waves, but most certainly he can phase from waves to matter being "Rockman" a fusion of a human and a wave being. Most probably he's invisible while he's in wave form, and can only be seen in matter mode... even if he can still fight wave viruses, being him sort of a mid-phase between matter and wave.
Just my two cents on the subject, I'm no expert on this but that's as far as I can speculate. If anyone has a better idea, just say it. o.x _________________ SPOILER:

I'm betting that by RnR's time, ubiquitous computing would have been fuly realized. That means that there's some kind of computer inside of just about everything, from your kitchen sink to the sidewalk and everything in between.
So, how is that relevant? Simple: the viruses attack physical objects, but it's not the attacks themselves that cause the physical damage. Upon attacking an object, the computer inside of said object goes haywire and self-destructs.
As for how Rockman can fight the viruses, it seems to me like he can only fight them when he's immaterial. |

As we all know by now, Subaru must feed WarRock the Battle Cards in order to use them. But, this action has a term: WarRock called it "Predation," as in predator or predatory.
...
*shudders* Ugh! It's so weird!
Anyway, so now it's "Battle Card! Predation!", as opposed to "Battle Chip, (Chip name)! Slot in!
It's still so weird! _________________

Well, this was it. Rockman's first denpa virus battle, and it didn't go too badly, despite Subaru being a bit shaky at first.
BTW, IMO, Gonta and that Max-clone are both fscking worthless.
And is it just me, or was that one virus actually TALKING?! That's something we've NEVER seen in EXE.
I do have my own theory about the Battle Card-eating thing. I think that Subaru is still wearing his Transer while transformed, and that WarRock just slides the cards through his mouth into the Transer. That would also explain why he was able to seemingly pull the cards out of nowhere.
Also, if I remember correctly, in the English version of the Ryuusei trailer, Denpa Henka was translated as FM Wave Change.
And yes, we once again have the whole "secret identity" deal that has been a superhero staple since time immortal. Luna's in love with him, and the Zenigata-lookin' dude is trying to figure out whose side the guy's really on. This could get interesting down the road.
All in all, good ep, but the time limit is still killing me. _________________

Think about it for a second: how would you respond if you were in such a situation where one error could mean slipping and falling to your doom, with one of your friends hanging onto her life?
They at least tried something, and I really doubt Subaru could've done better, if not for WarRock. They're not worthless - just human. |

Was the Virus talking? I just heard grunts.
Your theory about the "eating" thing would make sense, but it takes all the fun out of making fun of Frosted Battle Cards. Besides, I think the term "Predation" comes from the word "predator" or "predatory", implying something is being preyed upon (i.e. Battle Cards). And if were really that simple, why make all the big fuss about showing WarRock chomping down on the cards? I think it's exactly what it looks like: WarRock eating the cards. Remember: he's an alien, so maybe it's not supposed to make logical sense. (To us innocent bystanders, anyway.)
Radio Conversion rolls off the tongue a little easier. And it makes our fingers happier, too.
Capcom really hasn't delved into the "Secret Superhero" business yet. Think about it. Classic Rockman was the invention of world famous scientist Dr. Light. Rockman X was a Maverick Hunter. Rockman Zero was a rebel. Rockman.exe was viewed as a powerful Navi in the hands of a talented (if not arrogant) kid. The only one that comes remotely close is Rockman ZX, where Vent/Aile had to walk around in Human form amongst their fellow Humans so as to not frighten them. Were it not for that, they would gladly go around town transformed.
Ryusei no Rockman is the first in the Rockman legacy to play on the classic "mysterious superhero vigilantee." ^_^
And yes. The time limit is going to kill me at some point or another. _________________
