|

I figured just in case any of us are living under a rock, I'll spread the word. Nintendo has been getting complaints about it's straps on the Wii-Mote breaking during gameplay, notabily these are the 1st gen Wii systems that was released in the first month have this strap. So Nintendo of USA has responded and has made a stronger strap for the Wii-Mote and are willing to replace it, free of charge. All you have to do is fill out the appilication in the link
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp
My straps havent broke, but it doesn't hurt to get some spares right? _________________ -Follow me on Twitch.tv-

So far, the Wii Remote that I have hasn't broken and I don't even wear the strap as it proved to be a little uncomfortable for my liking. I am thinking about ordering some replacements just in case as it is better to be safe than to be sorry. I have been hearing about the various incidents of the straps breaking and it makes me wonder why people are swinging around the remote in such a fashion. It is fun swinging the remote around in order to become emersed into the experience, but it seems some people have taken things a little too far which prompted Nintendo to start all of this in the first place. _________________ --Official Nintendo.com Sage even without the actual forums being there-- |

I must concur, the only danger the Wii-motes have is the fact that someone gets too enthusiastic & starts getting out of hand. And I bet that 8 out of 10 people that have broken their TV are fairly new gamers & may have started with PS2 And gamecube, I doubt any of the people were old school gamers. Ive been into games since the beginning (Nintendo) so I dont go nuts with the controllers. I never use the straps either but hey its free, its from nintendo, Ill take it hehe |

Yeah. For all we know, those whose straps broke never read any of the warning labels/pamphlets/booklets that came with the games.
Wii Sports (the Japan release, at least) has warnings at the start of every sport, and yet most of the "casualties" are from Wii Sports Bowling. :/
I had a higher probability of sending the wiimote flying playing Wii Sports Golf >_>
That, and they're not offering strap replacements (yet) here in Japan. -_-;
Come to think of it, I haven't heard of Wii related accidents here yet... _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

Bowling is true. But I might actually punch the tv during Boxing myself. But my nephew has his parents play with him too. So I know bowling might do it. |

I actually accidently let go of my wii 1 time with it was Baseball or something, I was playing with a friend and another one was playing on the Computer and he was behind/left of me, so I swing and then at the end accidently letting it go almost hitting my friend o.o... But anyways, sorry, but it's really hard to let it go actually .... (Or the europe version is stronger... I don't think so xD.) _________________

The Wii Remote is a new concept to both old and new gamers as it's something that they've never seen before and so these incidents can happen due to those using them are new to playing games, or are veterans who are using the remote in ways that can cause these things to happen. I've been playing games for over 15 years and I have seen how far controllers have come since the days of arcades and the first consoles, so the Wii was something that didn't take long for me to get used to although I did have trouble adjusting to it. I'm glad Nintendo is offering to ship replacement straps as they addressed the problem as soon as it started to appear. I'm still thinking about ordering replacement remotes as while I am not likely to swing the remote in a crazy fashion, the idea of having a stronger strap is something that I don't want to pass on. _________________ --Official Nintendo.com Sage even without the actual forums being there-- |

I haven't had any problems with my straps (I have a launch system), but I went ahead and ordered two straps anyways. Better safe than sorry. _________________ "Cats are interesting. I ordered two replacement straps and they came on the 26th and my original strap still hasn't broken.
The thing is...last night I got a shipping confirmation e-mail from Nintendo again...I wonder if I'm going to have a couple more straps coming? .-. _________________

My nephew's system had a blue strap and him and his friend somehow broke it. I don't know how but they did. I also don't know where he got it from. |

If you're careful with how you use the remote, the strap should last you quite a long time, but ordering remotes with stronger straps doesn't hurt and allows you to have some kind of back-up in case the weaker strap ends up failing. Plus, it gives you that safe feeling knowing that you'll be using a remote that features a strap that is stronger than what you were using before. You just need to use common sense and not swing it around in a crazy fashion as has been the case with people breaking their straps and having the remotes fly and smack into whatever is in their path. _________________ --Official Nintendo.com Sage even without the actual forums being there-- |

i just got my Wii today, and i'm excited. the only game that would really kill my strap would be baseball. but, i don't really like that game anyway. the only two that i'm good (or decent) at are tennis and boxing. neither of those are the kind that would really break my strap. _________________ just call me xfyre. not xfyrethespooky. |

I took off the wrist strap it's a hindrance and useless. anyone insane enough to play that hard is both insane and stupid, thats redonculous, how hard would you have to fling that thing to break it? Very hard I think, a friend of mine threw his remote during bowling and strap caught it fine, and he plays harder then I do. |

I think part of the reason that happens is because of a misinforming name for that little add-on: the Nunchuk.
I went to a friend's house to play the Wii. He said to us (yep, four players total!) "We'll play a game that uses the Nunchuk." I said "I should be good at this; I've taken martial arts before.". Then he said "You don't actually SWING the Nunchuk, that's just its name."
Another theory that this happens quite often; little kids about ages 3-7 are probably playing the Wii and carelessly not gripping the controller firmly. _________________ War may not be the right answer, but when you're in one, ending it effectively and with positive results is a must.
