Yup, I've finally gotten around to writing my Zatch Bell fic. Enjoy!
Submit a mamodo by review or PM, and it may appear in a future chapter. Of course, I'll be tossing in some of my own mamodos, so try and get a spot while you can!
Name: Zan Bellen
Age: 6
A mamodo that uses lightning based spells. Has short blonde hair, jade eyes, wears a gray cloak with a jade jewel holding it together, blue shorts and a green shirt.
Name: Kene Jiratoma
Age: 15
Zan’s human partner. He has black hair and deep brown eyes. Wears a dark blue shirt and khaki jeans.
Spells so far:
1. Zaker
Zan shoots a lightning bolt from his mouth.
Spellbook: Red
Every one thousand years, one hundred mamodo children descend upon the human world for the sole purpose of battling one another. Each mamodo possesses a spellbook that is useless on its own. These spellbooks require human partners to read, so that the mamodo may cast their spells. The object of the game is to burn the other mamodo’s book. A mamodo must return to the mamodo world once his spellbook is burned. The last mamodo remaining will become the king of the mamodos.
Our story begins in a high school in a small city in Japan. The freshman class of Chiboro High was anxiously awaiting the final bell that would signal the start of summer vacation, none more so than a fifteen year old boy with black hair, deep brown eyes, and a school uniform consisting of a white shirt and a blue tie and pair of pants. Slowly, the boy crept out of his chair, towards the door, and...
“Mr. Jiratoma!” a sharp voice called. “Where do you think you’re going?”
The boy flinched at the sound of his name. ‘Damn it,’ he thought. He turned to look at his teacher, to whom the voice belonged. He was in his fifties, had gray hair, but was balding, and a small beard around his chin. He wore glasses and the same attire as the boy.
“Nowhere, sir!” said the boy. Though he didn’t show it, he was quite nervous. “I thought I’d just reposition myself closer to the door. You know, to beat the traffic.
“Well, Mr. Jiratoma,” the teacher began. “I can appreciate you being eager to get your summer started, but until the bell rings...” As if on cue, he was interrupted by the sound of the bell. Immediately, the students made their way to the door. “Um... have a great summer, everyone!” he called to the students. To himself, he thought. ‘He’s a crafty one, that Kene Jiratoma.’
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Five minutes later, Kene was walking downtown towards his house. He had plans to meet up with some friends at the arcade, but thought he should get changed first.
Just then, he turned his head to the right, towards an alley. He noticed a tall, twenty-four year old man with spiky red hair, wearing a black leather jacket, cutoff pants, sunglasses, and a nose ring, was beating up a six year old boy with blonde hair and jade eyes. The blonde boy wore a grey cloak going down to his waist with a jewel matching his eyes holding it together, along with blue shorts, was holding a red book of some sort and had a frightened look on his face.
“What are you trying to pull, boy?” the red haired man yelled at the blonde boy. “What kind of weirdo book is this?!”
“I-I’m sorry!” the blonde boy stammered. “I... I just thought you might be able to read it!”
“You think I’m stupid or something?!” the red haired man screamed. “There’s nothing but gibberish in this book!” The man punched the boy in the face, causing him to drop the book.
At that point, Kene couldn’t just stand by and watch anymore. “Hey!” he called to the man, who turned around instantly. “What are you doing, beating up a little kid like that?”
“Why’s it any of your business, kid?” the man responded.
“Because you’re beating up a defenseless kid,” Kene told him with anger in his voice. “You think that makes you a big man. But what happens when you pick on someone your own size, huh?”
“Fine...” the man trailed off, and for a second, Kene thought he was going to retreat. “You asked for it!” he screamed, and punched Kene in the chest. Kene got up and responded with a kick to the man’s stomach. He then picked up the red book the boy had dropped, and was just about to whack the man with it, when suddenly, it started to glow a bright red.
‘What’s up with the glow?’ Kene wondered to himself. He opened the book and turned a few pages. ‘What the heck kind of writing is this? I can’t read a word! Wait...’ He noticed some words written in red. ‘I can at least read these words...’
“Look out!” the boy called. Kene turned around just in time for the red haired man to whack him across the face. Kene fell down hard from the blow, but managed to hold on to the book. Acting more on impulse than anything, he read the words in the book. “The First Spell...”
Zaker!
The boy’s pupils disappeared. Out of his mouth came a blast of yellow lightning. The lightning impacted with the man, and he let out a cry of pain.
Kene stood ther, surprised at what the boy just did. ‘Did reading the words in the book trigger that lightning? Just what is this boy supposed to be?’ he asked. Turning to the man, he shouted, “Now get lost!” The man did not argue as he turned tail and ran away as fast as he could.
Kene turned his attention back to the boy. “Hey, kid,” he said with concern. “You look pretty beat up.” The boy just looked away shyly. “Come on,” Kene offered. “You can come with me back to my place, and we’ll get you fixed up.” The boy nodded, and then passed out. Kene gathered up the boy and the book and continued home.
Meanwhile, the red haired man from before was still running. Just then, he bumped into a boy with turquoise hair and blue eyes. The boy wore a white shirt, a black vest and pants, and carried a mint green book like the blonde boy’s red one. “Watch where you’re going, kid!” the man yelled at the boy.
“Sorry about that,” the boy apologized, handing over the book. As soon as the man touched the book, it started glowing. The boy smirked as the man looked in the book, shocked to discover that, unlike before, he could read it.
He had found his partner. _________________
