The Unofficial REO Valentine's Day '07 Art Contest

Who says we need fancy tri-monthly prize-filled contests to have fun?! [EDIT]: That was rhetorical. But apparently, both Ryouko and I (and now NumberGirl) say we do. [/EDIT] I have my own Valentine's Day-themed pic tradition and probably won't have major time to do a Rockman-themed one, but thought I could still be involved in this way. So, here's the premise of my V-Day art contest:

It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air. Our resident goddess of love, Roll, is playing Cupid. Both on the net and in the real world, Cross Fused with Meiru. Whether it's because her intoxicating Roll Arrows have a mind of their own, or that she just has poor aim, strange couplings are happening all across the EXE world. It's your job to capture the beauty of her mismatched victims...*coughcough*...er, um, lovebirds.

So what we're looking for is unique couples. Now you don't have to draw Cupid style Roll/R-Roll in action somewhere in the pic. But she can be in it, if you so choose. In order to make this more of a challenge, every normal pairing or popular fan-pairing is banned from the competition. That means no: Netto x Meiru, Yaito x Enzan, Laika x Pride, Rock x Roll, Medi x Rock, Higure x Mariko, Beef x Mariko, Yuriko x Miyabi, Yuriko x Misaki, Haruka x Yuuichirou, Hinoken x Madoi, Meijin x Makoto, Charlie x Tesla, Jack x Ann...you get the picture. Also definitely banned are Enzan x Annetta, Netto x Enzan, and any Navi x their corresponding NetOp. That should be all. I'm probably forgetting obvious ones (not anymore I hope!), but let's see some creativity in your pairings. There are plenty of characters out there who deserve some love, in one way or another. You can still use Roll or Meiru, despite my premise -- we'll just pretend she shot herself in the foot or something (or create your own alternative reason). Especially if you choose to do a Navi pairing, since there really aren't many female options. [EDIT]: And a reminder that same gender pairings or Navi/human couples are allowed, to be fair to all who want to enter. [/EDIT]

There will be two categories: Humor and Romance. If you are aiming for a very odd pairing and want to make us laugh, you probably want to submit it into the Humor category. Entries in that category will be judged on how funny they are as a whole. If you think so and so would actually make a nice couple and want to draw a more beautiful interpretation of that love, to Romance it goes. Entries in that category will be judged on the "Awwwwwww..." factor. So, this way, we will not be biased about one's skill level. You're allowed to submit two entries, any way you want. Two in a single category is fine, and so is one of each. Obviously, I shouldn't need to tell ya, but keep it clean. Any dirty entry will be disqualified...or forwarded to Tabby, one or the other. Wink

Entries do not need to be colored, but it is preferred. With time constraints, I'm not picky. A well-drawn picture is a well-drawn picture.

As of now, the deadline for this contest is Wednesday, February 14th. Which means you have just under one month to finish your pic. Since that may not be enough time, if enough people like this idea and would like to enter, I can push the deadline back a little. I'll stick to the rules of the last tri-monthly art contest in that you can't post an entry in your fanart thread. Entries can either be mailed to me at the e-mail address in my profile or just PM me a link to your pic. I'll edit a confirmed entry list at the beginning of this thread when I receive them, and post them all in this thread after the deadline.

Unfortunately, no real prizes are up for grabs. [EDIT]: OK, so maybe there are. So that whole thing I wrote here has been deleted. But you can still sing Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' if you want. [/EDIT] I'll still make up fancy trophies for the winners to display in their signatures. Gold, silver and bronze for each category, so you can proudly show off to all your friends. Or maybe a bigger one you can print it off. If you don't plan to enter, but would like to help me judge, 4 slots are open. Just lemme know. And you deserve to enter an REO contest for once...but if you win you'll be keeping your own prize! Guess maybe then I'll have to spend whatever small amount of Christmas money I've got left, in that case.

Did I think you'd try it, Haly? Well, I think there are certain artists who tend to like some of those couples more than others Wink

But you know me and my crazy oddball ideas. Like I said, I just wanted it to be a little more of a challenge, so I tried to think of any pairing that someone has done before and randomly typed it. It's hard to remember them all and type clearly at 2:30 am! So, nothing against your pairing, it's just one that popped in my head.

I do not believe in being prejudiced against any type of love, so same gender pairings are fine. I don't think they should be judged in a different category or anything, personally. Although, since some people could be...upset...about seeing that sort of thing, I probably would give it a special thumbnail, or give people fair warning with just a link. As far as any Navi/human pairings, heck, with copyroids, it's possible!! So that's fair game too, don't think any of them would be considered "popular couples," so anything goes. Definitely fits with the odd pairing theme. Smile

Anyone wanting to judge cannot be biased against this, as well.

Hehehe... -_-; I totally forgot I actually do have some stuff I could give away. If you like battlechips, that is. Nothing super special, but as an added bonus, a selection of these chips can be divided up between the first place winners as well. If the winners don't really want any of them, that's fine too (I have a feeling there's more than a few you wouldn't). I forgot I was going to sell these and never did. Well, after a few days of thinking it over and groaning at my rehearsal schedule, which coincidentally lets up just before the 14th, I'd like to ask if I can go the judging route. I wish I could actually enter, but I just don't have the time. T_T

Well, if you change your mind Blue, you can back out of the judging if you wish. And like I said in my long winded explanation, if it turns out we need to extend the deadline a little, I'm open to it. Just gonna depend if a lot of people start asking for it. Otherwise, welcome to the judges panel and I'll send you a little info about where I'm gonna store them all for judging and stuff sometime before the 14th. So we're down to 3 more spots for people who would be willing to judge.

I'd believe ya, blues-lover. I'm finishing up the trophy right now, so I'm sure some people progress quicker than others. Don't submit it unless you're happy with it, but you can send it in whenever. And of course, you can do a second as well.

And Planty: It's a Valentine's Day contest...so that means tender love nibbles only. Smile

Ok, first, Meiru x Enzan - I realize the obvious fanpairings with the hints in Beast, but don't really recall much of any fanart, and since they both really have more popular pairings that are banned, guess I'd allow it. [EDIT]: Searched around and found little more than shopped images and a small handful of actual fanart, so I'll definitely allow it. [/EDIT] And I know Tabby's mostly joking, but Aki-chan x whoever is fine. Yeah, they all fell for her, but that's such an obscure anime only thing that nobody ever draws, it's fine. I'm just trying to eliminate the super obvious-everybody-loves-to-draw ones.

And if anybody wants to draw Whaleman and a certain late night "happy to see you" manatee, I'll allow that too. Laughing

Joking, joking...I hope. I've opened Pandora's box with this contest, I tells ya!

On the sad, sad terrible news front, I lost a chance at upgrading the battlechip selection of my prize late last night. But, good news, everyone! NumberGirl is now graciously throwing a prize of her own into the mix! A complete set of 5 Japanese McDonald's Ryuusei hologram cards, to be exact. And, as an option to the winner, doubles of a few if you want them. Since my side of the prize is a little lacking (and since I too am leaving it as an option as to which ones you want), they'll be thrown in with the battlechips. As of right now, I think we're just gonna have one category winner get my/NG's prize and the other get Ryouko's. It'll probably work out easier. Who will get what will be decided after the contest ends. But heck, more stuff for ya!

Final note: Just want to make it clear that when you send me an entry, please let me know whether you are submitting it into the Humor category or the Romance category. I should be able to tell, but I don't want anyone getting upset if I would mistakenly place it in the wrong one. And if you send the pic(s) via e-mail, please be sure to put something about REO V-Day Contest in the title and include your REO nick, since I don't know everyone's real name to figure them all out. And I don't want to accidentally put something in my junk folder. Thank you!

And since we have our first entry, I'll be updating my first post with the names of those who have sent something in from now on. Since I won't be replying back to everyone when you send it in, but so you know I got it.

Yep, that's fine Mayl. I think the only obvious one I forgot to add as a no-no is Annetta x Enzan, looking back through my list of characters. I probably will be lenient on any pairings other than those. But thank you all for asking, just in case.
