On another forum (which I shall not name due to it's questionable nature)

They turn away bots by having a 50 post limit to start posting links to anything...

Do you think you could implement that if possible to turn away the weekly bot?

I would rather not punish our members just because of a few bot annoyances. They're not so bad to deal with that we can't handle them.

Alternately, some of the other forums that I visit semi-regularly have set up manual activation of accounts.

I have proposed this in the channel, but Pyo has given me the same reason that Ryo has already--they are a nuisance, yes, but not terribly numerous. I imagine if the bots begin to step up then another plan will be implemented.

Also, a lot of the bots don't even post links - they just put the links in their sig and profile. u.u;

One possible measure that could at least throw bots off would be a CAPTCHA at registration. Just about every large website out there uses it, and it doesn't cause any notable inconvenience for new users. Since REO doesn't seem to have been noticed by any hardcore spammers, a CAPTCHA could solve the problem for the time being.

Edit: w00t! My title finally (sorta) matches my avatar! Intaki Syndicate FTW!
