I got a new job!!!

Yup, found out today that I have myself a new job. I'll be working as an CSR (Customer Service representive) with an ISP.

No more flipping burgers for me!

I worked as both a cashier and supervisor/customer service rep at my old job (grocery store)... and went straight from that to graphic designer... it was a very nice change, that's for sure. Dealing with the public sucks, especially when they have a problem.

I agree with Zippo. What's even worse is that they tend to tell half of the problem, and get angry at you when you don't solve their problem. One even made comments about my mother. After I fixed the problem (after like, 10 minutes of spending time with him (which was about 15 minutes of him swearing at me), which turned out he forgot something really stupid, can't remember what, it was something about using like, 3 USB hubs connected together without using an external power source and all of them were connected -_-), I was wrapping up the conversation, and ended it with "Well all is well now, but you should just give up on computers because you're really a f***ing retard". Which....kinda made me lose my job. but eh.

I've been in the helpdeskbusiness for a while, and to be really honest, i'm GLAD i'm out of there. I'm currently programming

Unfortunally, I chose a field that whinny users will always be there, it's either "THE INTERNET IS DOWN! FIX IT ADMIN!" or "MY MOUSE IS BROKEN, FIX IT!" Embarassed

I had a job back in high school phoning alumni of a particular university to donate money to their alma mater. After my experience in that job, it makes me wonder just how true some phone support job claims really are. People seem to make it out to be a nerve-wracking job with hordes of vicious asswipes shouting their lungs out.

I personally found that most don't go past just saying, "No," and few ever go beyond adding "Please don't call me again," or "I've asked you several times to stop calling me." I've had only one guy yell at me, and only a small handful tried to act smart by playing along hoping to waste my employer's time. If you take nothing personally on the job, Fenril, then your job aught to be rather pleasant. For added fun, I recommend you look up the arts of cold reading and social engineering.

Frankly, my job was generally nice and leisurely, got me a decent wad of money for not having to really do anything but annoy people over the phone, and certainly helped improve my public speaking skills. The only logical conclusion I can draw about what people claim on the Internet is that either I really lucked out, or it's all a myth perpetrated by the tendency of bored web surfers to repeat what they read.

Since I'm just starting to recover from exam-time insomnia now that my midterms are finally complete, and am indeed somewhat irate from a severe lack of sleep, I might as well take the time to elaborate on my point.

Take no offense, X; your post just happened to be the only with enough detail to single out, and this isn't meant to be an attack on you.

haha, stupid, I know. but I was really sick of it, and I thought "meh, why the hell not? I can always get a better paid job where I get respected for the things I do". And I did :D

That's one of the reasons I went into Massage Therapy. People go in already expecting to feel good, so it doesn't take much to make them happy. All you have to do is a half-way decent job and they love on you like no tomarrow. You also get mad tips (like anywhere between $5 to $20 a massage, along with your base pay for a full-time job, which is like $20 some dollars). The only downside is if you're a girl, some guys think "massage" means something else, and sometimes you get the hairy customer who hasn't bathed since they were an infant (oddly enough, I have hairier women then men).

But all in all, a good field to be in. Just make sure there's a demand for them in your area before going to school.

Anyways, congrats on getting a job. It'll be difficult, but at least it's not fast-food.

Massage therapy was actually something I considered going into myself, but I chose graphic design in the end. I guess the thought of having to massage large hairy men turned me off.
