I'd like to share something with y'all. I had a dream the other night, and unlike so many of my meadnering dreams that just don't fit, this one had a purpose. When I woke up, I couldn't stop thinking about it, and I finally, after much consideration, decided to write to Capcom about it. I didn't expect anything back from them- I just wanted to tell somebody about it. So, I guess after a few weeks have passed, I'll share that letter with you.
----
I'm sure you get a ton of e-mails you have to shift through everyday.
People who want to know this or that game secret or who have ideas
they want to share. It's a hassle, I know. When I get a video game
idea, I tend to keep it to myself because I know what it's like to be
on your side, shifting through the endless e-mails. However, I feel
the need to share my thoughts with somebody, and I felt it'd be
appropriate to write to Capcom about it since it does, in most,
pertain to them. However, there is really no true point to this
e-mail, so if you're really pressed for time, you might as well stop
here. Trust me, I won't be offended.
It's very rare for me to dream, let alone dream so vividly. Usually I
go to sleep and the next moment I'm awake. But when I do have a
powerful dream, I tend to remember them for years. Some of them I've
used to write stories with, others get thrown into my art. But last
night, I had a dream that I really didn't know what to do with. It
opened up something in my mind and I've been questioning it all day.
I dreamed of Mega Man X. Yes I know, a dream about a video game. It
happens oh so rarely, but I enjoy them none the less. In this one, it
seemed to focus more on Dr. Cain and what life was like for him right
before he discovered X. The town he lived in, the life he lead, and
the places he visited. I pictured him living on a town near a city in
the middle of nowhere. He lived in what could be considered the
not-so-nice part of town, where he struggled being a college
proffessor. I know he's an archeologist from the little snippits of
diary in the X1 video game pamphlet, but being a proffessor along side
that job seems to make alot of sense. I saw him as a fairly young man,
probably late 30's or early 40's. I saw him discovering so little but
could feel the joy with each.
Then the dream shifted. He was out on a dig, and that's when he found
X. Suddenly he has a reploid, something nobody else has. But what to
do with it? Then dream continued, him taking X to the college and
telling a friend of his about his discovery. While they attempt to
make the appropriate contacts on this find, Cain takes X home. X seems
a bit confused and lost, and Cain finds himself having to teach X alot
about living in human society, something one wouldn't have to do with
a pre-programed robot. That's about the time when I woke up.
But I didn't stop there. The dream had raised alot of questions for
me that for some reason I couldn't shake off. What was life like
before reploids. What did Dr. Cain do with X when he first found him.
I reasoned it probably took decades between X's discovery and the mass
production of reploids. That sort of thing can't happen overnight.
Again, not very dire questions and not many people may wonder about
it, but I guess I do.
While playing the games and everything is nice for some people, I
always like to look a bit deeper. I love character development and
seeing how things began. But so many games just give you a brief
overview then throw you into the action. I find myself bringing up
more questions about the X series.
What was X's first impressions when he entered human society?
Was X able to conform to it, or did it take him awhile?
What sort of issues did X and Cain have with each other when they met?
At what point did reploids start being mass produced?
Which reploid went maverick first?
What were the circumstances?
When was Sigma built?
When were the hunters formed?
When does Zero appear?
Did Zero commit maverick acts for awhile before being caught, or was
when he fought Sigma the first time?
How did X and Zero meet?
How did they get along right at first?
What made X and Zero such good friends?
When did X start fighting mavericks?
What were X's feelings towards being the first reploid and the
maverick uprisings?
As you can see, there's been alot of thought going into this. I
relise probably none of the questions will ever be answered, but I
felt I had to ask anyways. And as is usually the case when I think of
questions, I try to come up with solutions. While I know how I'd have
X and Zero handle each situation, I still wonder what you, Capcom,
their creators, would see them do. However, there's probably no way
this could be done with any one game, or even several. The PSP release
of Maverick Hunter X answered some questions we the fans had
conserning how Sigma turned on humanity, but I personally would love
to see more.
In conclusion, I think it might not be such a bad idea to consider a
possible OAV or even a small animated series for the X series, showing
the beginings of what life was like for these people. I know alot of
the Mega Man fans have grown up over the years, and as such, a mature
story such as the X universe has would be welcomed by us. I can't
speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself. I'd love to see
something happen. Though I know it's a very long shot, it's still
something I felt should be addressed. While Capcom itself might not do
the actual animation, I can think of nobody else to send this plea to.
Anyways, thank you very much for listening to me ramble. I know
there's is most likely little you can do for me, but just reading this
has been enough for now. I hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks
again for your time.
----
And that's what I wrote. What do you guys think? Have you ever wondered about the same things? I'd like to know if I'm alone or not in this, since Capcom never wrote back (I never really expected them to anyways). _________________ Sometimes I hear voices. Then I hang up the phone.

How long ago did you send it? They do get a lot of email, so they might have not even gotten to your letter yet.
And yeah, I do wonder about that. We sort of just got dropped straight into the action in X1. After reading this, it's raised some questions for me too, like how X even discovered his fighting abilities. Or his ability to copy special weapons. _________________ The time is come. Capcom will not read or use this idea because you sent it to them.

Such a vivid imagination.... I can't believe you managed to say that to Capcom. While this may seem unrelated, I think that this dream should be put into reality. Perhaps making an animation of such might help. If this was put into anime, I'd be really impressed. Then again, it's already past that age, and I'm merely a teen boy. Your thoughts are truly deep. |

It's a shame that Capcom oft seems to have little feeling for their characters and stories, so often it feels almost more like they're "property" and little more, which makes this stuff disheartening sometimes. I see great room for potential in such ideas, but I fear they may never be realized...

As of January 3rd, 21XX, they'd been running off the assembly line for several weeks, which was about eight months after Cain first met X (April 15th the prior year).

When was Sigma built? |
Varying reports, though I've heard that he might be the first Reploid Cain made (Nov. 22). He's not mentioned until a month and a half after the Reploids started going into mass-production (2/16), however.

When were the hunters formed? |
The decision to form the Hunters was made on Feb. 16th; they seemed to be running by about March 16th.

Probably before being caught, otherwise I don't know why they would have been after him in the first place. Plus, he took out Gamma's unit prior to his showdown with Sigma.

What made X and Zero such good friends? |
Maybe some common bonds... mysterious pasts and purposes and the like...

maverick uprisings? |
He took it "personally," so I imagine there was some feeling of guilt, of being responsible for what happened.

I know they probably just read the first few lines of my letter, saw they didn't have to respond, and threw it in the trash ;P But still, I'd like to believe that SOMEDAY we'll get our wish and there will be a well-done MMX anime series.
And thanks LBD. It's nice to know somebody has the answers ;P _________________ Sometimes I hear voices. Then I hang up the phone.

Happy to help. The worst thing to me is knowing that there are probably a lot of answers out there, but we just don't get them because we don't pick up all the right pieces of merchandise unavailable to us in a language we don't understand. ;P
Things just seemed so much simpler 10 years ago when we didn't know there was all this stuff, and people just fabricated their own conclusions...

That's very agreeable LBD. They should be putting this merchendise into the country(subbed, of course), but America simply decides not to. Another thing, could you explain why it was simpler back then, briefly. I'm just confused. |

In a way, perhaps "ignorance is bliss" might sum it up best.
There was just simply less to deal with.
"Canon," before it even became a widespread term, was what we saw in the games and booklets, nothing more, nothing less. There was a lot less to keep track of as a result.
Sure, that lead to unanswered questions about things, but that made speculation more fun. These days, it seems like everything has an answer, and that if it hasn't been found, then someone's simply not looking in the right place for it. And that's annoying, frustrating even.

I thought that only the video games remained cannon, in case of a series like rockman. I mean look at all the exe manga and anime similar ideas, but different exucution. Also each one has some new ideas/characters.
It seems the same for nearly every series. Pokemon for example, the anime, manga, and video games have different characters and themes. The only thing that bonds them is that they all have pokemon in them. I could say the same for Sonic the hedgehog and a numerous amount of other series.
My point is that with so many places to experience a storyline, it's near impossible to determine if anything is cannon anymore, the things not commonly found, or the games, ect. I guess what ever came first would be what's considered cannon, in most cases it might be the game, it might not.
But more directly on topic, that's an intrestring dream. Whenever I dream, how rarely, I vaguely recall the details; often ending up bluring my dreamworld with reality. Anyway I've heard that many people dream about videogames. I once heard a dream where someone "learned" how megaman died, slightly before the X series started... |
