Well I really dont' care if viz doesn't dub it 100% exact considering japanease culture, like other culteures have their own puns, jokes, figures of speach that might confuse people who aren't familar with them. I'm just happy if they do it close enough so I could understyand what they are talking about(the not so fun part about raws is that I don't know a think about japanease language, and just guess whats going on since it is an action genre anime.)
I also believe its not possible to translate the exact litteral phrases of different languages, it might not make sense in english. _________________ Forte is so cute!! :grr: |

That is a complete falsehood. I.E. a lie. But you are right in that squirrel boy isn't good. class of 200 is probably only good for music. The characters seem more stereotypical. |
Indeed, Class of 3000 has all the various stereotypes, I'd rather not mention. While the music doesn't seem to be completely rap-oriented, they only really have one song an episode, and it's not really worth all the crap shuffling to get to ONE song.
As well, I never said Naruto's dubbing was as terrible as the One Piece Dub. I simply said the dubbing made me dread Toonami as much as the One Piece Dub did. It's really quite a chore to watch AROUND shows. Kind of like having to walk down a street littered with glass, but there's candy around the glass.
Haly K wrote: | What? Now there's a Lunar Knights dub that I didn't know about?
Also, also I have stated before: Viz has been very good to Naruto, so why not MMSF? If they kept in both the blood AND Naruto's Sexy Jutsu, then it's a sign that they're getting better at dubbing. I don't see why there are still people who are complaining about Viz. ( Unless they don't even like Naruto. ) |
As for the dubbing in Lunar Knights, what I meant to say was that all of the voice clips and Anime Cutscenes were dubbed. Just like they were dubbed in Boktai. I don't think there's a Lunar Knights anime if that's what you thought I meant XD Sorry for the misunderstanding if you did.
What I was saying though was that the Dubbing was brilliant. While Sheridan's voice made me shudder at first, I grew to like it as it actually suited his character. Same for Carmilla and Alice.
(Also, there were at least two british voices and an australian one XD)
Okay, also, I have to agree a bit with SweetSuzie. We have to compromise a bit. This isn't some show meant for an older audience that has the resources to research certain puns. Ryuusei no Rockman's manga was REALLY targetted towards a child audience from what I've read. I believe the same was meant for the anime. I can't know for sure cause...I can't understand it XD
I mean, come on. Subaru giving Utagai chocolate as a sign of friendship? How is that not childish?! XD _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Hey! I'd be friends with someone if they gave ME a piece of chocolate as a sign of friendship... and I'm 18... >:
Also it's exactly true that we can't translate everything literally, especially when it's targeted towards children. This is what's called "localization." A game like Phoenix Wright is a perfect example of this, they can't make references that, unless the entire target audience lived the culture, wouldn't get. Duel Masters dub kept some Japanese phrases cause it was targeted to kids or teenagers that liked that kinda stuff. Pokemon changed alot of things around because not many kids knew that kinda stuff. Megaman NT Warrior also had to change some stuff, because the REAL target audience (kids... that's right, KIDS >O) wouldn't get it. They don't eat takoyaki and that other stuff.
It's also unknown at this point if they WILL change the main character's name... but it doesn't matter, although Subaru is a pun in itself that American culture can understand, so I don't think we have to worry TOO much about it. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=100000142872316

For all of those negative people out there...
Viz did not give EXE the proper dub it deserved, I'll agree there, however, the Axess dub was a big step up, cutting out less material, staying truer to the original dialogue, as well as being more lenient on the editting. Now, who's to say that they won't give Starforce that very same treatment?
Let's examine some common edits: swords were blunted to look less sharp, violent deletions were often toned down ex. Shadowman's.
Now, in Ryuusei, the swords appear to be made from energy rather that a blade, so they don't appear to be very sharp anyway, so an edit here would be ludicrous. Next, no one has been deleted or been incredibly injured so far, compared to EXE, so I can't really imagine how an extra spray of pixels is going to make someone 'less' injured.
In short, I haven't really seen much material in Ryuusei that can be justifibly editted. Name changes would probably follow the game, unless they find Taurus 'Fire' to be too violent sounding and change it to Flame or Flare, or even Torch. Remember, it really wasn't until Axess that the dumb name changes really started to roll out (although Moltanicman makes me cringe).
So don't be so negative, this could actually turn out to be a decent dub. I'll be waiting, and if it's good, I'll see if I can watch it, if not, well, we'll always have our subs. _________________ ' I don't care if the buzz isn't real- I can roleplay being drunk!'

Dunno, Comic. Taurus Torch sounds kinda catchy XD *bricked*
And yeah, Enzan, I'd be friends with someone for chocolate too. I meant the idea of giving chocolate to be friendly sounds like something you'd find in a kid show more than something like...say, 24. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Ok. Thank you for clearing it up. But a lot on toonami isn't that bad. I don't find prince of tennis interesting but I know of people that like it. My nephew likes hikaru no go but I don't find it interesting. |

Okay, okay. I'm willing to be slightly more optomistic about dialogue, and I might be able to tolerate the obnoxious puns, but one thing bothers me more than anything else.
Acutal voice-dubs.
In MegaMan NT Warrior, the bad guys were given sterotypical squeaky voices that reminded you of a mad scientist. (Mr. Wiley, for example)
Match had a Scottish accent, and 12 year old Lan and MegaMan sounded like they were past legal drinking age. I'll admit that Axess was a considerable step up, since Regal and Shademan (to a degree) had more of those silky, sinister voices that didn't sound like nails on a chalkboard. But the point remains...
I dread the voice actors for Ryusei no Rockman. _________________

Thank you for being more optimistic. :D
... Honestly? You really gotta expect that kind of thing. 'Cuz if the voice doesn't match how they look, then it throws the whole thing off. Like how Maddy's dub voice matches her personality. ( Admit it. You agree with me. )
Also, when I heard Mega's original voice, I thought my ears would bleed. Seriously. ( Same thing goes for IceMan. ) Most boys, by the age of 12/13 or so, have their voice start to deepen a little, y'know? Personally, they both sound normal in the dub to me. The only human males that I know of that have a high pitched voice are usually in kindergarden. ( And trust me, my voice sounds pretty squeaky when I get upset. )
And c'mon! Do you have to dis the accents? It's sort of a way to let kids know that there isn't only 'american' souding voices, but there's also British, Scottish, Aurstalian, etc. Plus, any voice with an accent is usually one that I like. ( Especially Match! It suits his firey/angry personality so well! X3 )
Of course, the way people think others would sound tends to change from culture to culture, y'know? BTW, I'm impressed that most of you are keeping this topic at a mature level. ( I was expect a full blown flame battle, some bans, and this topic to be lock. XD ) _________________ MegaMan Kilobit

Okay, there's a difference between being a male alto and having a voice sounding like it needs to be oiled. Mr. Wily's voice just annoyed the heck out of me, that's all.
Of the World 3 members, Maddy and Yahoot are the only ones whose voices matched the characters assigned to them. Mr. Match does not look Scottish, nor does the Scottish accent suit him. It's annoying. Same as Count Zap's obnoxiously squeaky, quasi-dignified accent (it's not British, more like Snobbish, but severely watered down.)
No, the only accent I really liked was that of Mr. Famous. It suits his eccentric personality somehow...
And I still don't like Lan's voice. I like Andrew Francis (MegaMan), but it just makes the character sound too old. I have an eleven year old cousin, and he still has a girlish voice. So does my other eleven year old cousin.
Ick. I just hate the voices and the disgusting puns, that's all. _________________

I dunno... he looks pretty Scottish to me. Y'know, red hair, goatee, gets angry a lot... Yeah, Match pretty much fits the stereotype of Scotsman well before Rockman was even dubbed.
Anyways! Let's move to something else, shall we? Like, say... what VA's you think/want them to give the cast of RnR? As of now, I've got nothing in particular. XD _________________ MegaMan Kilobit

Hmmm...well Viz did and excellent job with Naruto and Bleach, so we'll see how they handle Ryuusei. I'm certainly excited about seeing it dubbed, hopefully the VAs will be chosen due to their ability to fit the character, as opposed to their level of popularity. *points to Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu* _________________

I just hope they didn't replace any of the original BGM this time, like what happened in NT Warrior. I'd be realled annoyed if that happens. |

They probably will replace the BG music, and they'll replace with watered down techno. *shudders*
Pessimist by nature, people. Please forgive me.
Anyway. There's only one thing that I want Viz to get right. Just one little thing: I want them to get WarRock's VA right. Whoever's in charge of voice overs in Japan nailed it when they picked Kentaro Ito-san to voice WarRock. I just want the people at Viz to get a person who is just as fitting.
Other than that, I'll probably tolerate anything else. _________________

You've GOT to be kidding me.
Not only am I not very fond of Ryuusei, but the fact that they completely skipped over Stream kind of pisses me off. I was hoping that maybe they would dub it, or at least have been working on it in the time that's passed since the end of Axess, but... I guess not. It's a disappointment, especially since Axess and Stream-- particularly Axess-- had a darker, more serious tone, while Ryuusei is aimed more towards children. Personally, I don't think it will do well if it is released on CN (since that seems to be the only station left that broadcasts dubbed anime ._.), particularly because I don't see a lot of development for an actual good storyline like in Axess and Stream. That "good storyline," and the more serious tone, was probably what kept NT Warrior and Axess' viewers hooked.
What they could do is perhaps air NT Warrior and Axess on CN before airing Ryuusei, but I don't really see that happening either. False hopes, really. NT Warrior was screwed over when it was dubbed; Axess was a little better. Whatever they do, here's hoping they pull off Ryuusei fairly well, otherwise it may slaughter the whole point in any of the Rockman dubs. _________________

Eh, I gotta agree with Feather. I keep hearing how awesome and badass Stream was, but since there's no subs...well, blah :<
Maybe Toonami Jet Stream could do Stream? *hoping* _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

There's a rumor going around that Toonami Jetstream is going to air brand new episodes of MegaMan sometime in the near future. Many people think this can only mean a dub of Stream, but no one knows for sure. This news has been around since Jetstream's launch, but there's been no MegaMan there yet.
Shows on Jetstream now:
*Pokemon Johto Journeys
*Naruto
*Samurai Jack
*Hikaru no Go
*Pokemon Chronicles
*Prince of Tennis
*MAR _________________
