Rockman did not fall back in the previous episode to hide. He retreated because Rock wanted to tell him something strange he noticed about Crown Thunder and he couldn't do that while Rockman was fighting.

That makes PERFECT sense.  Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), Gemini Spark didn't count on Harp Note randomly showing up, and was apparently oblivious to the fact that Subaru is apparently NOT blind or stupid, because he saw the glowy lights and put two and two together.
Rockman: "Dude! If we blow up the ship, the walking Christams Tree can't regenerate!"

No, he was most likely perfectly aware. He constantly told Rockman that he was bound to the ship...over and over. It merely took Rockman a while to realize what it meant.
