"Hell, it's about time."

Not sure how many Starcraft fans there are around, but seeing as the gaming community in general has been bouncing off the walls at the announcement, I figured I'd bring any local closet RTS fans out of hiding and see what they have to say.

Yes, it's official.

I got to see preview gameplay for it. It's 3D, and there more new vehicles. Some are renamed, but the battle and graphics of each stage are all awesome!

Wasn't there going to be a FPS based on Starcraft? I heard about it at blizcon last year but after that ... nothing.

Are you referring to Starcraft Ghost? If so, that's been known for quite some time, and much like Starcraft II was in development purgatory for what many people thought of as indefinitely.

On topic, this looks rather awesome. I'm glad that they are sticking with many of the classic elements of the game, while updating others to blend quite well with the game as a whole. This is going to be on my watch list for a while.

Interestingly enough, one stated reason for putting an indefinite hold on Ghost was because Blizzard said they wanted to focus on the PC platform for awhile. Maybe consoles just don't do it for them?

I nearly wet myself watching that cinematic trailer for the first time...seriously. Everything just looks so amazing now! Shocked

I found out about this the day it was announced at Blizzards invitational.

All I can say is KeekeekeeBOMB! The Zerglings can now evolve into a new form which allows them to explode.

Exploding zerglings? As if eating them wasn't already enough.

The Protoss has gotten a complete makeover, too. Their vehicles look more destructive than before! No dragoons, but their Immortals and Stalkers are more powerful than them. Plus, their new weapon, I think it is called a Mothership, is OMFG (sorry about the language) out of there!! Check the gameplay videos if you are confused. Sorry, can't provide them though...

...In translation...

All the races have indeed been visually reworked (but in a good way) and many of the new Protoss units are impressive. As stated by Blizzard, many of the units they didn't feel were crucial to each race have been removed and replaced by one or even two new units. For example, the Dragoon has been replaced by the heavily defensive Immortal and the quick and sneaky Stalker.

Also, each race will be able to summon a single "flagship" unit; only one at a time, and costing significant resources, but also significantly powerful. The Protoss flagship, the Mothership, has a trio of deadly abilities and a powerful standard attack.

While the other two races are supposed to receive similar upgrades to their forces, very few details have been released at this time. The exceptions: the Terrans now have a sort of shock trooper called the Reaper, which is equipped with a jetpack that allows him to bypass cliffs and twin pistols designed to overwhelm larger units; and the Zerg's Zerglings can now mutate into suicidal Banelings (like the Infested Terrans of the first Starcraft) and the Nydus Canals have been replaced with living creatures called Nydus Worms.

Dear......God....

Of all places to come across this information for the 1st time its here. Irony.

To this day i still wont purchase any other type of PC game other than RTS and Starcraft (I !) was the end all be all for me as far as games were concerned. Starcraft 2?!? Its not fair of Blizzard to thrust this upon SC fans years after moving on (college, spouses, girlfriends/boyfriends, children) lol.

Days will be lost.......

Thanks to the thread starter for letting folks like myself know :D

This intrigued me greatly. I suppose it was time, since it was announced for creation for... what, 4 years now?

One does hope the game remains as balanced as it ever was despite (or because of?) the new units, though! Should change and create a few new strategies.

Now to wait... a few months, was it not?

One exec actually said in an interview that Starcraft II's been in production since 2003! They're not setting a release date yet, but a popular prediction is late November, 6 months from now.

In terms of new strategies, the big one Blizzard is promoting is bypassing different elevations. The Protoss Colossus can step up and down cliffs, and the Reapers can use their jetpacks to do the same thing. They've also added a new mechanic to the Protoss that allows them to deploy units anywhere they have a power field; when used in conjunction with their new Phase Prisms, which act like a mobile Pylon/transporter, it's possible to sneak around to the undefended side of an opponent's base and teleport an entire army into their base. Nasty, eh?

Weee. I'm very happy, hope it's as good as Warcraft III was.

Speaking of which, I demand Warcraft IV.

Yes. It's about time.

Most. Def.

Jesus, when I saw those reapers just jump up the ledge I almost died of happiness. The phase prisms, reapers, and walkers will add so much depth to the game. Walls used to be a nuscance [lol can't spell!], but not anymore >:D
