In Megaman Battlenetwork 4,while i was looking for Protoman in the undernet, i happened to run accross a part which took me into a battle with Metalman suddenly, this was not part of the story line i came accross him like you would with a virus. Metalman had 1600 Hp and at the end of his name he had a weird symbol. I was wondering if anybody else came accross this and if this was a glitch or something?

To answer, it isn't a glitch. It's what we call a "ghost" navi. This happens after you defeat a specific navi at a certain time. The navi appears in a specific part of an area of the net, and it is much more powerful than the original you defeated before. I suggest you pack powerful chips that can devastate the navi, or plan a combo in your folder that works as effectively to help. After you defeat the first one (which are situated usually in dead ends) the navi appears again and again in the same area in a random encounter, like virus battles only tougher.

When i faced it the first time i saw it i ended up defeating him. I was kinda surprised when i did. Twisted Evil

No, it's a boss. If you happen to find a Navi which is through random encounter, and you've defeated that Navi before, that's a "SP/Omega Ghost Navi"
This form is the strongest among all of its version

If you happen to find a Navi which is through a corner/certain place on the Net, (Indication : Rockman will stand still for a while), and you've defeated that Navi before, that's a "Beta Ghost Navi"
This is the upper level from the original that you've fought in the main storyline.

It's better if you always prepared if something happened, since the SP form could meet you anytime in that area (the area where you beat the Beta version Ghost Navi), if you've defeated the Beta, then plug-out.
And, some Darkloid or Tournament Challenger Navi are hard to flee from them.
It's better you fight them with all you've got
