No worries, we're all just grateful that you continue to provide the links. And to Antoine for hunting them down. I needed a screencap-taking break anyways! LOL. Thanks as always. _________________ Avatar art thanks to toberboobap, animated gif thanks to Dr. Wily II

NOOOOO!! I can't load these! Even IF I had some program for ZIP files, I don't even know how these things work! I'm confused; how does it work? Everyone else got to see it, now I'm jealous! |

O_O;;
http://www.winzip.com/index.htm That's how you unzip zip files. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Note: I don't have a credit card... yet. Plus, my dad refuses to get it. No, I'm not kidding. |

Get the Trial Version. It's free, and for 45 days you can unzip and extract files. When the trial period is up, simply uninstall it and re-download the trial version again. Simple. ^_^ _________________ "There is no coincidence, only Hitsuzen" Yuko, xxxHolic

If archives are hard to get, here's a metaphor. Imagine an archive as a sort of nut, an archiving utility as the nutcracker, and the files within the archive the tasty nut flesh. Download an archive (ZIP, 7Z, RAR, tarball, etc), load the archive with an archiving utility, and then extract the files.
As far as ZIP archives go, Windows XP (and upward) Mac OS X Panther (and upward) are able to open them without any additional utilities.
As far as archivers in general go, however, I personally prefer PowerArchiver. It supports a wide range of archive formats and it's always had a very clean user interface. (Latest version uses Microsoft's Ribbon interface.) Set it and forget it. If you don't buy it, when the trial expires, all you get is a time-delay nag window. _________________ *placeholder* |

You don't even have to do that. When the trial version ends and you try to use WinZip, a window will pop up, and there's a button that says something like "Use extended version" (not completely sure if that's what it says)... And pressing it will pass over the "you have to buy it" window. _________________

Why does anyone even bother using WinZip these days? Its support for archives is so rudimentary that one could argue that the ZIP support provided by recent incarnations of Windows are almost equivalent (not quite there, but pretty close).
A much better alternative (that also happens to be open-source and consequently free) is 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). It'll do everything WinZip can and much more. True, the interface isn't as fancy and XP-ish as WinZip's is, but performance-wise and feature-wise, there's no comparison. |

Windows and Mac open ZIP archives without any hassle, as do GNOME, KDE, and XFCE for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.
In my opinion, the only reason to use an archiver is for anything other than ZIP archives. _________________ *placeholder* |
