So...question for y'all: I've got this job at a bookstore and, since I'm the only one working there who knows *anything* about manga (aside from, "Hey, these books are backwards!") I've been kind of put in charge of ordering titles. They've got most of the biggies--Fruits Basket, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc., but I'm kind of curious as to what other sorts of stuff people read. I mean, I like Hikaru no Go, for example, but I'm a bit clueless as to how mainstream (or not) my tastes are. So what manga do you read? _________________ Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away and have their shoes. |

Naruto, Rockman (Megaman), and Rave Master are in my collection. But, I suggest maybe you stick to the newer ones. Old ones like Shaman King and Rave Master are okay, but this might attract more people that way. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

Dragonball and Rurouni Kenshin are two series that come to mind. Although American animes fans eat things up if they're plenty generic and crappy, so Naruto is probably your best and safest bet.
Also, if the anime is currently airing on Adult Swim or Toonami, try those, Death Note, Trinity Blood, Gash Bell. _________________

Do you have a set limit besides the obvious? That might help. And do you know how many people in what age and gender come in? |

You've pretty much already hit the biggest sellers...
Coming from a girls point of view, I tend to sell these the most:
-Loveless
-Hana Kimi
-Cardcaptor Sakura (perfect for younger kids)
-Ouran High School Host Club
-Tsubasa (Reservoir Chronicles)
-DN Angel
-Gravitation
We have a pretty large manga selection at the book store I work at, and definitely our biggest seller is always Naruto. Fruggin series drives me crazy, especially when we have a shipment of 25 new release copies of #23 go missing. >_<; _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. Some other popular titles include:
Negima
xxxHOLiC
DN Angel
Vampire Knight
Fullmetal Alchemist
Also anything published in Shonen Jump or Shojo Beat (both Viz releases) are pretty much garenteed to draw in customers. You could also try asking regular manga customers what they'd like to have in too, cos they're bound to have a few suggestions. _________________ "There is no coincidence, only Hitsuzen" Yuko, xxxHolic

Pretty much agreed with what is up so far.
It's always a good idea to keep an ample stock of the "mainstream" manga titles, like Bleach and Naruto--they are the titles that inevitably get sold off the quickest.
If your bookstore allows for free browsing and reading (much like Barnes and Noble does here in New York), then make sure that a manga series is as continuous as possible--that way, people are more tempted to purchase a volume or six of a series if there are their predecessors available for inspection. When I look for new manga series to read, I've always found it quite irritating that a series is stocked as follows: "1, 1, 1, 16."
Other than that, you should probably be okay. A personal preference is Full Metal Panic!, but that's just me. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! If you can group them by their Japanese publishers, try that too.
I tend to make a beeline for the ones by CoroCoro, Shonen Jump, Shonen Sunday, and Clamp.
Oh yeah, that's how the bookstores here in Japan arrange them, with one shelf reserved for the latest issues at the "entrance" to that publisher's section. _________________ TGS 2007:MISSED! T_T |

Volume 23?
Is Viz trying to get to the terrible time skip before the new year or something? _________________

Yep. Three volumes a month for three months. It's all I see whenever I go to Borders these days: Naruto Nation, Naruto Nation, Naruto Nation! I wouldn't care except for the fact that that display replaced the old Death Note one, so now I have to scour the shelves for it.
Stuff published by Shonen Jump is usually a pretty good bet. People usually eat that stuff up, regardless of quality. Eyeshield 21, Gintama, Buso Renkin, Claymore, and other stuff from Viz's Shonen Jump Advanced line should be fairly solid bets as well. _________________ ' I don't care if the buzz isn't real- I can roleplay being drunk!'

Twin Signal is my personal favorite, if you can find it. It should stick out as it's more like a 2 in 1 but still 10 bucks. The translation is a bit rough, but I still love it <3 |

Thank you so much for the suggestions, everyone! It's a new section, so I'm hoping it will do well.

They stopped showing Naruto in Shonen Jump for a bit so they can mass produce the volumes.
They're trying to catch up with the anime dub.
They're going to start showing it in shonen jump again in about a month I think, so that they can continue with that part where something happens (I think Naruto fights Sasuke, or something, I'm not sure, I wasn't paying attention) as the dub should be around there when that issue comes in. _________________ The time is come. Yeah that is weird. He isn't cool until after a lot of issues. I won't say when because it's a huge spoiler. |

I don't think Sasuke is or ever will be cool.
Oh, I was at a local bookstore today, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure apparently sells really well there, although it might be a regional thing. _________________

Jojo? I've heard of such before and watched it a few times. That show created the WRYYYYY meme! Plus, it almost makes no sense. I just enjoy the fighting.
