I'm sure everyone has one. A food that all things considered, should be pleasant, a food that you want to enjoy, but for some reason, try as you might to change your mind about it, it always winds up revolting you.
For me, that food is mussels. I love mollusks. I enjoy clams, oysters, squid, octopus, and even escargot. I aught to be able to eat mussels. I aught to even enjoy them. Yet somehow, I always find myself gagging each time I swallow one.
There's just something... wrong (for lack of a better term) with their flavor and texture. Something is just not appealing about them, but I can't put my finger on it. I mean, as far as mollusks go, mussels are meaty, substantial, and flavorful.
If there indeed is a God as the Abrahamic religions portray him, and I am indeed doomed to Hell for not believing, I'm certain Hell for me is going to be a swanky seafood restaurant with nothing but mussel dishes on the menu.
So, what's your repulsive food that for some reason, you just wish you could enjoy? _________________ *placeholder* |

For me It would have to be shrimp. I want to like it, when I go to eat it I think I'll like it, but no matter what I just don't. I've tried it cooked a bunch of different ways but no real diffference. I really don't like seafood in general though. _________________ Name shortened from Serenade.exe |

I guess porkchops for me. I can fork down the meat, but the fat cooked on it gives the porkchop a jello-like feel on both my mouth and teeth. I would throw up from the feel of the fat. Not exactly the food I enjoy eating so often. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

Tempura of any kind. I just can't take the fried batter, it literally makes me sick to my stomach. And it took about ten attempts of eating tempura with other Japanese food in order to finally figure out what was making me sick. XD
Um... broccoli too. I keep trying to like the stuff, I WANT to... but it's just damn nasty. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

Philadelphia rolls. As much as I love sushi, I can't stand cream cheese in anything.
I once tried it at an all-you-can-eat. When I first saw the tag and the sushi, I thought "Interesting color, I'll try one" and eat it thinking "Ugh, that tasted horrible!" I went to another sushi bar later and saw that Philadelphia rolls have cream cheese in them. Yuck. _________________ War may not be the right answer, but when you're in one, ending it effectively and with positive results is a must. Vote John McCain for U.S. President.

Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, it's like "Oh buns! those'll be tasty!" then I bite into it and it's just the most sicking sensation...

Mushrooms and Olives. So much food has them, especially Italian. It'd be far more convenient if I could eat them but unfortunately, I cannot. _________________

Pickles. I like cucumbers, and I like most sour-y weird things, yet I can't get near a pickle without going "Eww". It's odd. I should have no problem with them, and yet I can't eat them. Weird D: _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Curry Rice.
I don't mind eating it, but I won't ask for it.
There's just too much flavor for so little rice (yes, even the sweet variety)
I'd probably eat it three times a year tops.
Ryouko wrote: | Tempura of any kind. | I think it's probaly the oil that the store was using.
I could eat five sticks of tempura from one restaurant no problem, but couldn't finish two in another.

My vote is for curry, too. Though when I buy it (a certain brand) in the store and can make my own rice, I enjoy it.
Indian-style curry is definitely out though. _________________ One of the three EXE sisters! *Armstrong-style pose*

For me, it's eggplant, and REALLY hot chili.
I wish I'd develop less sensitivity in my tastebuds, although that comes with practice. >.< _________________

I've been conditioned to dislike the smell of pancakes. All that syrup that goes on them just disgusts me. I respect people's like for the fluffy cake of mapley goodness, but I just don't like how I pour on 250+ calories of syrup only to have it vanish into my cake and me add more, thus gaining weight like a ship taking on water.
Fried foods have also been something I'm wary of. I can't handle a lot of fried chickens, and I'm not sure how exactly I'd handle tempura. Anything out of the ordinary that they fry won't go down well for me. Even some onion rings. :<
I guess I'm just a fussy eater. _________________

I've had tempura vegetables and shrimp at about three different locations now, and I still don't like it. XD It's just too much fried and not enough food for me.
I also agree on the cucumbers, I just can't eat the suckers. _________________ "Cats are interesting. They're kind of like girls. When they come talk to you, it's great. When you go talk to them, it doesn't go so well." - Miyamoto

In the same vein as cucumbers, pickles tend to do that for me.
I'll often remove slices of pickles out of my sandwiches, and when provided with a large dill pickle when I order a hamburger, that most likely goes uneaten. I'm not sure why, as I will often eat pickles that have been minced into Chinese dishes, but I cannot stand traditional pickles in American cuisine. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! Do you mean you can't eat pickles or cucumbers? o_o. Cause I love cucumbers, just can't get near pickles. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

I used to hate cucumbers. So much water, so little substance, and a mediocre flavor on top of it all. I'm still not a fan of them, but I've since found use for them in cooking. Gazpacho practically demands cucumbers as an ingredient, miseria is pretty good with cutlets, and gyros just aren't right without tzatziki.
Another food I just can't handle: tripe. I used to love the stuff when I was a toddler, apparently. I dunno what happened, but for as long as I can remember, it's been a huge turn-off for me. _________________ *placeholder* |

Tripe? Isn't that sheep stomach?! Ugh... I pratically lose my lunch just hearing unusual foods like that. Speaking of which, I can understand cucumbers but pickles? Really, it doesn't taste bad. It's just tart. If you want to really know disgusting, my dad and mom eat balut (ba-loot), which is a boiled duck egg with an unhatched ducking inside (yeah, really) and another delectible, besides porckchops, that I can't stomach down. This means there is a partialy developed baby duck inside ready to be eaten after being peeled. This tops porkchop, cucumbers, and tempura completely. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

I'm with Midnight on the pickles - I like them in Chinese dishes, but I can't stand them in American dishes. Somehow, the taste of a pickle just clashes way too much with the tastes of typical American food.
Never been big on pancakes, either, for some reason. Don't particularly dislike them, but don't like them, either.
And also, those white crunchy bean sprouts (do ya tsai; not sure what they're called in English) that are often found in Chinese food. Even though they're tasteless, they seem to screw up the texture of most foods for me. _________________ Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x]. |
