It's back and it's better than ever!! Yep, that's right, who'd have thought American Gladiators would ever see the light of day again? I for one am surpr...oh, my bad, wrong topic. Rolling Eyes

After a good showing last year, I've decided to run another Valentine's Day fanart contest. Only this time around, I'm opening things up a bit. For those who don't know, last year I organized this contest on the REO forums. As I have become a part of various other sites around the community since then, and in the spirit of Rockman's 20th Anniversary, this year there are no restrictions on who can enter the contest. While I will only be plugging this on the 4 forums where I am a member (REO, RPM, On-Air, TMMN) plus dA, people are welcome to spread this info to other places in the community if you so choose.

PRIZES:

The part I'm sure you all want to know first. As of right now, there will only be one grand prize for the winner of this contest. Often you see people say they would enter a contest, but they already have the prize or just aren't interested in it. So I don't know if I'm opening Pandora's Box or not, but I'll be a little different. Whoever wins will get to choose something Rockman/Megaman-related that they'd like me to buy. There will be a maximum price limit, but it will be slightly flexible. I shall keep that limit between me and the winner. The winner will also now receive a 1-yr. subscription to deviantART.

Depending on what you want, perhaps you can have more than one item. For example, if you want a game, that'll be it. Unless I can find a really good deal on eBay. If you want a CD, such as the new Rock or Techno albums, judging by the disgusting import prices, it'll only be one. If you are missing some mangas you desperately want, I'd think you could get a few. Same could be true for figures or things of that nature. But that doesn't mean I still won't be trying to save money and get the best deal when I buy the winner's prize.

I have no prize in my hands right now, so you're entering to get something YOU really want. Of course, if it's something rare or hard for an American like me to purchase, I might have to ask you for a second or third choice. Like if you ask for a Mattel Wood Soul figure, I doubt I would be able to find it anywhere, nor am I giving away mine. I just saw a set of three 20th anniversary posters for $90.00 on eBay. You can totally forget that. But as long as it's reasonable, I will do what I can.

Unfortunately, I can't really afford to do that for more than one person right now. *THINGS HAVE CHANGED, SEE BELOW* It may depend on what the winner chooses. Last year, Ryouko and NumberGirl were kind enough to donate additional prizes to help me out. If anyone does have something to offer, I most definitely won't turn them away. But I am not expecting anyone else to chip in. So that's how the prize situation stacks up as of right now.

*12/17 Addition* Koroku's Random Roulette Prize

Koroku of DATS/TUS/etc. is offering a mystery prize for the 2nd or 3rd place winner IF -and only if right now, but perhaps subject to change- the entry in either of those places has 2 of the 3 characters in his dream entry, if he were participating. Yes, it's probably the most totally random way to give something extra away. But if the triangle he thought up was out in the open, then we might have people doing that just to try to win his prize. And I don't want to kill people's creativity that way. But if you're on the same wavelength as he is, and place 2nd or 3rd, you can win something extra.

2nd and 3rd place will now receive their choice of prize as well. Currently capped at a $20 and $15 value maximum respectively. The 4th place winner will now receive an art request pic from me.

*1/14 Tree's Addition*

Tree from Rockman Metropolis is now contributing a 1yr subscription to deviantART, a $29.95 value, to our winner, to go along with my prize.

On top of that, "much like Koroku, if someone creates a triangle involving quite possibly the most epic and hottest/hilarious trio of characters, they will receive a 3mo dA sub, a $7.95 contribution. Don't bet your bottom dollar on anybody thinking this one up, though."

RULES:

I think everyone around here knows what qualifies as fanart, so I'll skip that part. Only submit your own work, as usual. Unlike last year, there's merely one category for this contest. Our theme this time around is a classic in love stories and has occured enough in the Rockman universe. And that theme is...LOVE TRIANGLES!! (aka "Fight, Rockman-related character, for everlasting true love!!!")

So, what are you supposed to draw? The focus of your entry needs to be on 3 characters in the Rockman universe. If you feel like putting other characters in the background, you are allowed to. But we need to be able to tell which three are involved in this triangle. You can illustrate what happens when one character gets jealous seeing the other two together. Perhaps (character 1) is trying to sabotage their crush's (character 2)date with (character 3). You can have two characters fighting over and tugging at their main squeeze. Maybe they are both putting on a happy face in order to impress their true love, or showering him or her with gifts. Those are just some examples of what you could try; it's totally up to you about how you want to interpret it. But remember, if all three are falling for each other, that's not a true love triangle. If you need to read up on what a love triangle is, use your friendly wiki (or if you're like me and can't open wikipedia, go to answers.com, where they steal wiki entries verbatim all the time!)

No restrictions this year, other than no fan-characters. Any character, major or minor, from any series is allowed. Again, to be fair to all, same gender groupings are allowed. I don't want complaints about this, as people should be allowed to draw what they want, regardless of sexual preference. Humans and robots and reploids and servbots and computer programs and viruses and alien AM/FM beings, etc. all deserve their chance for some lovin', without prejudice!!

You can stick with groupings that can be technically interpreted as canon in their respective series: (Roll.EXE x Rockman.EXE x Medi), (Misora x Subaru x Luna), (Masa/Commander Beef x Mariko x Higure), (Zombie Iris x Zero x Layer), (Alia x X x Mary/Marty, whatever the manga girl's name truly is), etc.

You can create your own fan-made triangles: (Thomas x Ashe x Mikhail), (Officer Denise x Tron x Roll), *coughcough* (Yuriko x Miyabi x Pride), etc.

Or you can mix and match characters from different series to disturb us all: (Kalinka Cossack x Juno x Ciel), (Narcy Hide x Tsukasa Futaba x Launch Octopus), (Yamatoman x Orihime x Tenguman.EXE), etc.
In general, three's a crowd. So I'm not expecting any of these entries to be all lovey-dovey. Perhaps it is between two characters, but not for that third wheel. So humor and drama will be an important part in judging these pieces moreso than actual romance. As will your creativity and the effort you put into it. We shall do our best not to judge merely by one's artistic skill. Entries do not need to be colored, but it is preferred. Once again, you can enter TWO pictures, if you so choose. Doubling your chances of winning. But if you don't have time or just don't want to submit two pieces, that's fine, too.

Now remember, a love triangle does not mean a menage a trois. Please keep your entries clean!! All dirty entries will be disqualified, but not before they are once again forwarded to Miss Tabby Kitsune for her viewing and archiving pleasure.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Entries can either be e-mailed to me at rock2125[at]hotmail[dot]com or you can just PM me a link to your pic. DO NOT post your pic in this thread, in your fanart threads or dA/Sheezy/etc. galleries until the contest is over. This is the fairest way for competitive reasons. I know we all like to see them as soon as someone has them done, I'm no different. But I'd still prefer to keep them all secret until the deadline has passed. I'll edit a confirmed entry list in this thread on every forum, as well as on the contest page when I receive them. So you won't be in the dark about whether or not I've received your entry.

DEADLINE:

The deadline for this contest will be Saturday, February 16th, by midnight CST. So this year you have nearly 2 months to come up with your entry/entries.

It's actually reworked to be more appealing and managable compared to what I threw together for results day last year. And a different address. So even REO'ers might want to browse again. But being a cheap freewebs site, I have no clue how the limited bandwith will hold out over the course of each month. Hope promoting this like I am won't kill it. But if it's an issue, I might have to try something else. My plan is to host this year's entries at this space as well, so you will know where to look.

- If you don't plan to enter, but would like to help me judge, please let me know through PM or mention so in this thread. It would be pretty cool if we could get a regular from each site to help. I kinda had to ask extra nicely for help judging last year, so don't be shy about it. It's not that tough of a job. ;p Could use a couple ladies to join the panel to help even things out, FYI...

If any of those who place decline their prize, that's fine. It'd just be offered to the person who finished behind them, to be fair.

How I interpreted your last comment, you planned to enter something. You can't do both. If you want to judge, you can't draw anything for the contest, regardless if you were going to decline a prize if you placed or not. If you aren't entering, then let me know and I will add you as a judge. Otherwise it isn't fair. Adding Unknown Neo to the list as I speak.

Bumping this to give you your reminder that there is only one more month until the deadline! So get to work, people!

But actually, there is more to this reminder. Most importantly, I'm sure, is that there has been a change to the prizes. I have a new temporary job, so I will be able to afford something for 2nd and 3rd place after all. I think I'm going to cap it at a $20 value for 2nd and $15 value for 3rd. But I will also let those winners choose their prize, just as the first place winner is allowed to. I will now do only one art request, and that'll be reserved for the 4th place winner. Yep, so now you've got multiple chances of winning something!

Right now we've only had one entry, but that's to be expected. Most people always push it close to the deadline. But I hope any who were not sure if they wanted to enter now have some extra motivation.

Also, I still could use preferably 2 ladies to join the judges panel. Too much testosterone isn't always a good thing, especially when judging on Valentine's Day. Razz

Help balance the panel out, if you aren't entering, please! Smile

It's nice to have Malik-chan judging. We have Blue and Izumi doing it last year. So if we could get another girl, we'd have judges just as good as last year.

Since I've been fighting with plenty of cold/flu viruses the past couple weeks, I can understand reasons why people haven't gotten as far on entries as they would like. But it has been remarkably quieter this year compared to last. Even if I do expect enough last minute submissions.

So, last chance: if you'd like to have the deadline extended until the weekend (let's say Saturday, Feb. 16) speak now or forever hold your peace. I know most would like to see Valentine's pictures on the actual holiday, but if the extension is needed, I'd rather give people that opportunity. Better to have more entries than have to turn people away after it's too late. I know weekdays can be bad times for deadlines.

If I don't hear from enough people about it, the current deadline stands, being next Wednesday, Feb. 13th. Look forward to seeing everyone's pics!!

Well, I only had one possible entrant ask for the extension, but I also had the only person to submit something withdraw this week. And since weekdays can be bad, I decided I might as well extend the deadline until the weekend. Hopefully it's helpful, because with a week to go, I have no entries now. Crying or Very sad

You are welcome to still submit by Valentine's Day, but I won't post the submissions until sometime Sunday the 17th. I know it'd be nice to have everything up for the actual holiday, but since this year's response has been slow, I think it's for the best. I can still see issues with people trying to submit last minute on a weekday. We still hope to get judging done within a day. I'll be emailing the judges some info early this coming week regarding the process, FYI.

So again, the new deadline is a week from today: Saturday, February 16th, preferably by midnight CST. You've got a great shot at winning! Can't wait to see the entries! (I sound so desperate right now Laughing
