I was doing pretty well in Battle Network 5 right up until I got to Nebula Grey. Now, I don't think any of this is going to be spoiler material, just technical stuff.
First off, at the last save point, I was forced to remove my HP+400 program in favor of AirShoes, when I would have liked to keep both if I could have found an extension program to widen the NaviCust field. So now Rock's top HP level is 850 instead of 1020, as it is with the other HP+ programs in 400's place.
Second, it's impossible to get anywhere past getting Grey down past 500 HP because at about that point, I completely run out of chips with just my buster at hand.
Third, my biggest concern is that I must have missed a lot of crucial things, resulting in my inability to defeat him due to lack of SOMETHING - even though I followed and completed the game via the official BradyGames strat guide.
To anyone who's beaten Nebula Grey before, could you please tell me where the heck I'm going wrong? It would be greatly appreciated, and my friends consoling me telling me "the ending's not that great" doesn't help. XD _________________

Well, I'm sure this is obvious, but grounded attacks won't work.
And uhh...maybe you might not have noticed, but you can only hit the blue spirit thing which is revolving around him.
Uhh, that's about all I can help with, it's been a while. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Can you post up what battle chips you have? I can try and help in that area. |

You know what helps, a WildBird combo or just about any other program advance that can do more damage. Also, Chaos Souls can be good here so stock up on Dark Chips and start practicing. Plus, a BublWrap chip can really get you places. Make sure that you put the right codes in your folder, though, so racking up combos are easy. If that's not enough, then get S-rank on the other navis to get better M-class chips.
Edit: Did I mention I have the guide too? sorry, unrelated. I also forgot, it would also help to have a counter-chip like AntiDmg * or any other one related to it. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

On the subject of chaos souls, in this particular fight, messing up a chaos soul charge shot won't result in Dark Mega spawning on the other field, that'll only happen if Nebula Grey summons a dark chip. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Yeah, I know about the blue spirit thing, and the ground-based attacks.
One thing I noticed, though, is that DarkChips don't seem to work for me. Whenever I use one, it just sort of "poof"s above Rock's head. _________________

i know i had my chip list and combo sets written down somewhere but i've recently just stacked and stuffed all of my files in my closet. anyhoo, (if you didn't already beat him by now) i would obviously suggest non-ground chips and quick reflexes. look at your chip folder and make sure that you have some pretty powerful chips that mesh together with the chip codes so you can use them back to back. and um ... invisibility chips. some of the powerful chips take some time setting up and i like being able to focus while waiting for that blasted blue sphere to come back around. hope this helped! _________________ Avatar by Tabby (of my NetNavi, GuincoolMind.EXE) : : :

Plus, be careful when you useregular dark chips because you will permanantly lose 1 HP for every use. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

Unless you use darksoul. But I wouldn't do it anyway. I just don't like Darkchips. |

I'm not sure if you ever elucidated which version you have. If you have Team of Blues, Gyroman should be on your team, and thus you should have GyroSoul. Its charged attack does a pretty penny's worth of damage, and the Airshoes effect should be helpful when Nebula Grey decides to wreak havoc on your side of play.
Most of the Chaos Unisons won't help in this one, so you're forced to resort to your major damage combos. I recommend S code, since it is laden with Dreamsword, BigNoise, WildBird, and other major PAs capable of dealing a good amount of damage. Also remember the use of your defensive chips like Invis and Kwarimi. Other than that. it is only up to perseverance and practice. Good luck. _________________ Today, these three players are after Big Bucks! But they'll have to avoid the Whammy, as they play the most exciting game of their lives! I've found that Chaos Knight Soul, Chaos Tomahawk Soul, and Chaos Toad soul are incredibly helpful at certain points in the fight. Hell, I used them all when I fought him. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

I have Team Protoman, and I did infact mention the AirShoes program, which really does help when it comes to the cracked panels (that way I can use things like Geddon and TripCrk (sp?) without having to worry about not crossing holes. And yeah, the official strategy guide said Chaos Unisons were your best asset, but I beg to differ. So far, they aren't doing anything good for me. Right now, my best assets are SearchSoul, GyroSoul, the *Invis chip, and Roll's SP chips, but that's about it. Obviously I must not be too good a chip collector either, because I totally don't even know what Dreamsword and BigNoise are. XD
Thank you very much though. _________________

You know, Dreamsword (or LifeSword) and Bignoise are actually PA's (Program Advance). The first is a Sword, Widesword, and Longsword combo while the other is consisted of 2 Pulsar3 and ShademanSP chips (S-coded). Just remember, though, you want strong chips. Try to change your folder a bit. Plus, if you find a program called "Collect" (which is in End Area in a PMD), use it if you want more chips. _________________ As a Deviant, I work alone on my projects.

You can also use ShademanDS in place of ShademanSP for BigNoise even if you're not using dark soul. _________________ The time is come. Bid farewell to your bloodstained past.

Learn to dodge Nebula Gray's attacks. It's not too hard unless he unleashes his dragon head at your center panel (ouch). Also, max your Buster charge if possible so you can land a fair amount of charged Buster shots for decent damage, especially when using Souls.
If you can, get Super Armour so you won't waste your chips due to Nebula Gray hitting you. Then again, watch out for that Dark Thunder Ball.
Use Chaos Unisons, time your charge right. You'd want to release your charge the moment it is ready so take note of when to start charging.
Best ones for the Nebula Gray fight are Chaos Blues and Gyro for Team Blues, and Chaos Toad, Number and Knight for Team Colonel. Dark Plus and Wild Bird PA = SERIOUS damage.
Causing Gray to flinch will mess up any attacks you have planned. Try to avoid flinching as much as you can, or use things that pierce Invis (Shademan paralyze code FTW).
As for chips, do the hide-and-seek side quest to get Kawarimi (Antidmg) *, its really helpful. If you can find the Numberman Lotto codes, get Anti Fire, Anti Elec, and Anti Wood * to punish Grey for unleashing Dark Rock on you, provided you can anticipate what's going to come up next.
Hmm, I can't think of any other advice. Good luck, then. |

well, as the others say, just try to watch his battle pattern and learn to avoid his attacks. And starting with 850 isn't that bad.
I reached there with 500 r so (team colonel)
you could use chaos unison, like chaos blues (dark sword)
my brother has his team protoman way ahead of me ( I play more of team colonel. We have 2 DS XD) but I've already beaten Nebula Grey in both teams.
maybe you should try chips that inflict more damage..
in my case, I didn't use PAs cause it takes time to wait for the right chip XD
hope it helps. _________________ Your voice seems to freeze reaching me...
