It's a shame that capcom never took advantage of the DS features to make a real exe game, and not just a port. Hopefully they will make one for the wii Maybe they will do both, only time will tell...
4.5 Real Operation for DS would have been amazing... Since you don't move the Navi, it would have been perfect... But, no. Sad
I also wish they had ported BN6 to DS...

I believe beast out would be a bit confusing if they ported the two BN6 titles to DS like they did for BN5. Considering that the different versions have different beast outs...Well, you couldn't use Greiga Beast out with Tengu Cross....know what I mean? Wink

Rather, I wish they had developed the game for the DS in the first place. Smile And taken advantage of the bulletin board systems and stuff...

That probably could have made me actually BUY the game ;~;

Also, they could've used the touch screen for the whole idea of the homing attacks with Beast out...
Bleh, that's just shot down dreams as EXE's already over ;~;

I wish I could read JP to properly play my 4.5 limited, but it'll have to collect dust for the time being.

I the Game Cube game any good? I might buy a Wii soon and I thought if it is good, it would be a good pickup at a cheap price.

I'll give you a review. Personally, the gc network transmission is in my top 2 hated gamecube games (the other Sonic heroes). No wonder I sold them together.

In terms of the idea, it is very interesting, however the execution leaves a lot to be desired (just like sonic heroes :lol: ). It merges the 2d game play of the other series with battle chips and upgrades of the exe series. Since I wasn't completely in love with 2d games I suppose I have a slight bias. Though I did like the WS game which features nearly the exact game play for some reason, it's not a port though.

So anyway, going into it's flaws. At the beginning of the game, and for a good majority of the game your rock buster is near useless on even the weakest of viruses. That said, you're going to have to use your chips.

Each chip takes away a different amount from your "MP" gauge, if it runs out your a sitting duck. In addition, just like in the gba games there's a custom gauge, so you have to conserve your chips. If you run out of chips you're once again a sitting duck. While cruising the net, you can simply stand around an wait, in a boss battle you don't have that luxury. I remember losing a great deal of battles because I was defenseless. Also while cruising the net you have to use a ton of chips to protect yourself from random happenings, so by the time you get to the boss, your near defenseless (once again) as you have to use up a great deal of your resources (chips).

On a good note, the chips don't have codes, so you can simply pick and use. But even that's messed up. For example if you have 12 swords, you have to take all 12 of them. Even worse, when you use a P.A you loose everything. For example 5 swords, wide swords, and long swords= one beta sword. I'd assume that I'd actually get more damage by using the indivdual chips. Also I wouldn't be left defenseless by that massive "MP" drain the pa causes or have to wait for the custom gauge.

Also just like the gba you can't control what chips you get. So, I recall there were boss fights where I was handed basically swords. I had to run up to the boss, risk taking big damage from touch them, just to deal my 80 hp worth with my little sword. And some boss patterns (brightman quickly came to mind) required you to do some gimmicky thing. There's absolutely nothing you can do but hope Lan gives you what you need. And if you need a particular chip, good luck finding it. Since it's a side scroller it's not as easy to collect cash for upgrades and chips.

You may think that the slide and jump might aid you. Not exactly. IMO, the controls weren't good enough. And considering that survival is almost dependent on those abilities (chips aren't absolute, buster is useless for long while), that nearly killed the game. I simply though it was me, that my timing was off or something. No, others have told me of the same problems.

Mega's jump is kinda stiff, while I'm not expecting him to soar, I'm sure he could do something better than that. The slide is a bit to short. Considering there are bosses you might need to slide under, it's kind of hard to determine where to begin the slide, considering if your too close, you'll hit the boss and if your too far, you'll hit the boss. That killed the game for me and it took me so long to realize it.

The final blow is that there is no "real world". Like how in the BN games you'd work simultaneously with Lan in junction to fighting in cyberspace. No. The real world is nothing more than a map and Lan's room. It was to my disappointment when I first popped in the game those years ago, lan was walking in the opposite direction, against my controler. Lan simply walks around his room, Ai controlled yelling out random Japanese words (none understood at that time). To get to cyberspace, you simply point to a place on the map that's open. The entire game is the original Japan VAs. While that is exciting to those who watch the Rockman subs, weird that capcom did not consider a global audience esp considering the occasion was Megaman's 15th anniversary.

I originally heard the game was to be 3d. Exciting it would have been to experience a 3d exe game. I'm looking for a good action rpg that takes place in more than just a few grids. I can imagine a kingdom hearts style game play might go nice with megaman (I've never played it, but seen vids) or at least some type of 3d style game play. But considering the exe series is over, I might not never get a game that takes full advantage of the DS/wii's features or this action rpg.

In conclusion, rent if you are a hard core fan of megaman. Actually considering the number of years it's been it might be a very cheap buy, Amazon/ebay is a great place to buy cheap online. If you feel you might like it, buy for as cheap as you can find. I've bought cheap games that were considered crappy and I loved them, esp for the price I paid. A part of my hate for the game was the price I had to pay. I ended up selling this with sonic heroes for like a 1/4th of the price I paid for both of them.

You know, maybe I should put this on gamefaqs. I actually might after I make some mods.

If anyone else here has played the game and I made a mastake, or there's stuff I forgot/ exggerated tell me. It has been a while since I've even seen the cover...

Ah, I also would have liked a 3D exe game. I think it would have been good in some sort of modified fighting format type of game. IE you have the 3D RPG real and net worlds but when you fight like a boss, you basically have an area to do the battle in and go from there. Maybe Star Force will do something like that

Nope. Star Force is pretty much the same as EXE except your perspective is over the shoulder instead of from the side. (3D visuals though)

wow, im kind of disappointed ... i was gonna get this game with the Wii. well, at least i read your review, lmao! that *does* sounds like a lot of annoying problems to deal with ... just b/c the EXE series is over doesn't mean that they can't make a Wii sequel of that game. then again, the series is over. ah, Inafune can't be done with MegaMan yet!

I don't mean to be negative, but it seems like the megaman series is slowing down. Aside from ZX advent and starforce, I don't know of any other exe games on the horizon. I do hope that capcom either makes a good ds/wii game, mmorpg, and/or 3d action game with the exe series. Imigine if capcom combined all three of these things together...

The EXE series has been confirmed to be over and done with, there won't be an EXE7 or anything of that nature.

So... there really isn't any point to hope for a new EXE game, it just isn't going to happen.

I knew the series was over, hence bn 6 was so conclusive, but given the theme of exe, there are so many things they could have done with it, the suggestions above. I hope starforce will at least attempt to do this, but I just wish exe would have done so before ending. There are always fan games to hope for, right? At least until a cease and desist is issued...

yeah, that's true. that reminds me, i have to check up on the progress of that MMBN7 fan-game. on another note, Japan may have a bunch of Battle Chip Stadium arcade machines, but i found a retailer that sells them for $783.40 USD (not including S+H). Check it out!
