I've never heard of this series before now, but from the squeals of delight I've seen on other forums, I figured that I'd pass it along here.

Earthworm Jim Lives! Interplay Inks Deal With Creator to Relaunch the Legend
PR Newswire
April 22, 2008: 04:28 PM EST
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interplay Entertainment Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: IPLY) announced today that the company signed a partnership arrangement with Earthworm Jim creator Douglas TenNapel to relaunch the videogame icon.
TenNapel will serve as a creative consultant on Earthworm Jim 4, and will simultaneously develop an animated series and feature film to expand the well known brand.
TenNapel created the original Earthworm Jim character, which Interplay developed into a video game with Shiny Studios for the Sega Genesis console in 1994. The game became an immediate hit, and later spawned sequels on various computer and video game platforms, including Earthworm Jim 2, Earthworm Jim 3D, and Earthworm Jim: Menace 2 the Galaxy.
The iconic character became a virtual hero whose popularity took him far beyond video games into TV and toys. An animated Earthworm Jim television series, produced by TenNapel, aired for two seasons from 1995 to 1996, on The Kids WB! with Dan Castellaneta of "The Simpsons" providing the voice for the title character.

I was done because I had no control/reason to develop. Now he's mine again so there's a reason to develop him further. Notice, I said DEVELOP. That means he's going places and I'm not here to repeat what my pals and I did 15 years ago.
Interplay is being really cool...they're hungry, so they want to see Jim fly again. That's a different strategy than just sitting on a dead liscense and try to milk more re-hashes that continue to weaken the brand.
The old game was great, but there was no room to tell a real story. It barely says anything about Jim...it's the perfect game but not a story at all. The cartoon was pretty stale with really low production values even for back then. The toy line was kind of clunky-chunky.
I'm excited to introduce him to a new generation of people. I've done a few new sketches and he's really fun, funny and just more solid as a character. I have a ten page feature script treatment that I just finished to get a look at the character...see what a feature might look like.
I'm not going to say much more. I don't want EWJ to be all about talking up a character...I'm putting the goods down on paper. We'll give you updates over on the Interplay site and I'll probably start a blog to let all of the Jim fans in on the progress of the character, game, movie, etc.
What some of you might not understand is that I haven't ever had legal control of my own character for EWJ's whole existence. I promise to deliver my very best ideas, story-telling, game ideas and I'll demand the very best quality from all parties on board. That doesn't mean it will come out a hit...I can't control that. I can only say that I really want to make him shine so you won't get some half-baked, heartless piece of crap made to exploit you for more money.
We're going for it. Your support is appreciated. Go tell all of your friends and spread the word across the internet that Jim. Is. Back.

Groovy! This should be fun. I didn't get to play his games a lot but I did watch the show. Good one too. I know of a great piece of art with Jim in it. He's not a doctor but he is a real worm.

In the show one of the main characters or Jim would always get squash by these cows for no good reason to increse the crazy comedy in the show.
As to the same with the EWJ 2 game. When you beat a level theres a way to get the cows to say "Well done" very quickly and repeatidly.
God I can't believe I remember that XD! Puppies..>< hated that level with all my might. Then part 2 comes that was a night mare itself. |

I never actually played the games because my parents never let me get a video game console until the N64. However, I was a faithful viewer of the Earthworm Jim cartoon and I loved it very much. _________________

I thought Earthworm Jim was widely regarded as one of the worst games in history. :X
At any rate, I played it on the GBA and thought it was pretty bad, although the BUTTVILLE stage was pretty funny (and also excruciatingly difficult). Dunno why we're getting this when MOTHER still hasn't come over yet. _________________

I've seen some of the episodes from the cartoon a few months ago all because they were there and I wanted to see them after not having seen them in years. Hearing that they are planning on reviving the franchise will make a lot of people excited as Earthworm Jim was one of the more unusual franchises that came about during the 90's. Granted I never played any of the games although I have seen the footage many times so I do have a good idea on what to expect. _________________ --Official Nintendo.com Sage even without the actual forums being there-- |
